How Tanzania avoided tribalism

  • Many African countries experience violence and intimidation fuelled by tribalism. But Tanzania seems to be an exception. Despite having more than 100 ethnic groups and bordering eight countries, it has succeeded in overcoming tribal tensions in a region where some neighbours have failed to do so. The BBC's Tulanana Bohela reports from Dar Es Salaam.

Tanzania is not a tribe, it's a country . And what's this video and a lot of things call "tribe" are folks. Each folks has his history , language , Culture and identity. Governments of multilingual countries are just following the stupid European ideology of "one state - one nation - one language" and "one language for all" . Those one can't be applicated to lands With a large diversity . And to love his language , culture, history and identity and to be proud of it is not tribalism. Tribalism is to humiliate , destroy , erase the culture , identity , history , language of someone else and to have no respect for them .
If a father teaches to his kids mathematics, sciences , art , play and music in the language of his community , preserves it abd put it in the center of their world ; what's wrong? Do his kids will become some kind of murderer killing people who don't speak their language?
Or people who are educated to love their language , be proud of it and respect the one of other people.
If the states could at least care about who they rule , their stories and identity in education , administration , a lot of things would be better.

I know two (black) Americans who moved back to Africa. Both with plans to settle in Nigerian. They both now reside in Tanzania ❤️. They both talk about this very feeling. They don’t feel like an “other” in Tanzania. They both talk about how people talk, and teach their individual cultures, but never project how others should live.
Very cool Tanzania, the world is watching, and should be taking notes 👀❤️✌🏾

I'm a Tanzanian. Unlike other countries, here in Tanzania there's no private ownership of Land. The entire land is the public property bestowed to the president as a trustee. In Tanzania we don't "buy" land but we "lease". If you need a piece of land, you go to the ministry of land and pay for lease amount or you can buy from fellow citizen and change lease ownership (the ownership is mostly given for 33 years). In case the government wants to use your piece of land for public good, they don't "buy" from you but they compansate you according to the market value of land in that area and use the money to lease somewhere else.

To love his language (Swahili isn't the language of major people of Tanzania) , his culture , his history and identity and to be proud of them is not tribalism. Tribalism is when you devalue , destroy , humiliated the language, Culture , identity , history of another person.
Because if someone want to educated his children (mathematics , sciences , music ,art etc) with the language of his community ; with the wrong definition , someone can call it "tribalism" while it's just a father teaching his children and not spreading any division or bad things.
The real Tribalism is french , Portuguese , English and Swahili destroying , humiliating , erasing local languages and maintaining foreigner influence in the lands which don't own them.
