In this video, we show you a super easy method for rotational grazing. We just brought our sheep out of the barn, and onto pasture. Since we left the Sheep Tractor back in Texas, we needed to come up with a different method of providing shelter for the sheep, as well as proper grazing management. This is what we came up with.

Great video, over grazing is just like over mowing. The roots never get a chance to develop and grow deeper into the soil.

im doing the same thing and I know what you are talking about with Greg Judy rolling out the round bales. I dont have the ability to do that either but like you I will throwing down hay by hand. im trying to get rid of broomsedge by rotational grazing with sheep.

Alex Baker thanks for watching! We usually have the chickens on the same ground within three days of the sheep.
Keep in mind that rotational grazing is quite forgiving. Don’t concern yourself too much about making mistakes because adjustments are easily made and then you recover on the next pass.

I agree with the 3 day gap. You need to leave it a few days for the flies to have payed their eggs in the dung and then for the maggots to have hatched. We have a massive fly problem here in Australia and running chickens a few days after the cows is an excellent way to control the fly populations
How do you know what animals need to follow another animal?
We have goats, horses, kune kune pigs, rabbits, chickens.
How big should each pen be and how often do we move them ? How many days do all animals need to be off the first pen they started on?
Any idea where i can find specific figures like, i have 4 goats ,how much time can i keep them on a certain sufrace, how much time it takes to overgraze, how much time for grass to regenerate, or even more specific things like dry mass per a certain surface per pound of an animal. Anything is appreciated

Can you share the brand and type of fencing?
How do you determine how many sheep go inside the fencing? How many square feet is the foot print of the fencing?
Paul Conrad That particular fence is 100 feet long, so squared off, it’s about 625 ft.². How many you fit in there depends on the quality of forage and how often you are willing to move them. I personally wouldn’t have more than 10 sheep in a space that size.

Why are you feeding sheep hay when you claim to do rotational grazing? That like buying an EV car for weekend errands and driving an old gas guzzler to work Monday to Friday
The previous owners heavily overgrazed that pasture and we were trying to recover it. By throwing down a ton of hay, we’re adding carbon to the soil and increasing the biomass. By doing that, we no longer feed hay and now we have to increase the stocking density. Check out Greg Judy. He goes into depth about the reasons behind it.
Also the hay leaves some seeds and helps create more lush grass later
