Lady Bunny & Chris Moukarbel Speak On The Documentary, "Wig"

- Late one night, in 1984, Lady Bunny and a few friends drunkenly wandered from the Pyramid Club in the East Village to Tompkins Square Park and staged an impromptu drag show in the bandshell. This would soon become an annual drag bacchanal, which lasted until 2001. In 2018, Lady Bunny resurrected the festival, bringing together legendary queens with some of the new children of drag, creating one of the largest drag performances ever staged. The documentary, "Wig," directed by Chris Moukarbel, explores the origins and the influence of the historic festival through rich archival footage, and provides a look into the contemporary drag movement for which the festival served as a foundation.

Bunny is just the best.
Justin Pitt I cant believe her jokes are Bombing. She’s hilarious
@@BLKENDOLLBARBIE everyone today takes themselves way too seriously.
I wouldn’t be able to keep my composure with Bunny being this funny. And she’s toned down soooo much. I love her. LMAO.
From Lady Gaga to Lady Bunny. Chris Maukarbel is everything
bunny is an icon. she's so important. ugh i love her message about local queens and inclusivity
Bunny is simply one of the very best humans ever
Bunny is just so smart, truly. I love her to pieces.
Bunny "tells a joke"
interviewer: 😐
Pedro Jaskowiak “Area liberal arts twink cant take a joke”
...but how do you guys feel about drag race?
I hope people realize or don’t forget the power of bunny’s voice, the intellect, the history I mean she is an icon for a reason her story and her opinions boom I love it.!!!!
I hope the docu doesnt interview Drag Race girls, the world needs to hear other voices from that beautiful, magical and shady community.
They interview a few like Willam and Naomi Smalls (and they have very short interviews) but that’s about it. Most of the people they interview are not from Drag Race or come from the 80s/early 90s NYC nightclub scene.
Well thats pretty ridiculous to say. I mean drag race girls are just continuing to pave a way for the future, why would you want to stop that? You people are never fucking satisfied or grateful for the hard work others put into the community. Now we got all this uglyness towards RPDR and for what? Because they are drag stars? What a joke.
Just wow, Lady Bunny went in. I respect her for speaking her mind and saying what many many people have been thinking and saying over here in NYC.
I love Bunny's comments about no-talents becoming famous
Bunny, I live..."...get your cameras out, cause I'mma SLAAAAAAAY....myself.."
🤣🤣🤣💀
I appreciate your voice: WE NEED IT!
Thank you BunBun!
XoXoX
What
This should be called 'Lady Bunny hates on Drag Race for 30 minutes'. I love it.
To be fair, nearly all of the host's questions related to Drag Race.
Right?! The interviewer made me eye roll every second question.
True. You could see the director desperately trying to drag the conversation away from it too
Lady Bunny is truly iconic and I’m going to support “Wig”! (I also wanted to add) that Bunny’s breaking down of the underground drag scene and why we mustn’t forget it, was inspiring and so true. I’m going to start checking for my local drag performers as well.
Bunny is right. Local gay culture has evaporated and a corporate gay culture centered in LA, SF, and NYC has taken its place. The gay and drag scenes have almost disappeared in Cincinnati. I don't know if there even are any predominately gay bars left in Cincinnati.
3506Dodge So true, but either way NYC has the best gay clubs/bars in the WORLD. It is the Mecca for Gay lifestyle and nightlife/parties
@@SpYx626 It has a few worthy rivals, but it's up there.
@@SpYx626 not anymore it doesn't.
I remember going to a gay bar in Cincinnati when I was living in KY. about 8 years ago. It was a huge bar/club and was kinda fun. There was a drag show going on with some queens of course and also some trans performers. I cant remember what it was called but it was very close to the Ohio River.
@@carlosnajera65 I moved to Cincy 6 years ago, and all I know is that it's gone now.
Also check out Wigstock:The movie..1995 documentary..real herstory...
Yes it's so good. One of my faves :)
Ed Reid going to check it out. It’s on CZcams btw..
Love lady bunny. This host though
Been following Chris Moukarbel on Instagram for years not knowing he was a documentarian. I saw him during the super bowl running around with a camera and I was like “what is he doing”, turns out it was for the Gaga docu.
Lady Bunny is quintessential Drag Queen - they come no greater
Lady Bunny is magnificent. I never knew. Her words of wisdom are raw, organic and something we don't get to enjoy anymore. A true authentic person with a lot to say. She hits the nail on the head and I hope that resonates with people.
Lady Bunny you're a kitten baby (get it a baby rabbit)...of course she did!
"They might not even have one number... oops." HAHAHA Lady Bunny is too much
this host and crowd were so stiff, barely laughed at bunny's jokes.
mechalp he fancy with those big words but he strikes me as being a little dry
what jokes?
It really is sad that these people don't get Bunny's dry and sometimes dark humor.
They definitely are quiet to Bunny's jokes... They seem reasonably attentive.
omg I thought the same!. Lady Bunny was being so amazingly funny but the host was like a statue!!!. so boring!!!
I could sit here and listen to Bun Bun go on for hours...
FABULOUS! Bunny never holds back the truth.. 💗 her
Gotta love ya Bun Bun! Keep Wigstock coming! We love you and love what you are doing for our FAMILY... also Chris is a cutie pie with a big heart. Great to see him working with HBO to produce Wig!
that guy chris is extremely handsome and smart !!!!
Well at least u put his looks before his intelligence.
29:50 Life lesson: "Pick something that you really love because if it takes off, you're going to be doing it all the time."
Bun Bun! This is so refreshing! Thank you for always keeping shit real! Love you Ghoulina...xo
So excited to watch this tonight! Bunny is my favorite.
The shade is so true‼️‼️‼️
Great interview. As always, Lady Bunny - the legend - SLAYS with the humor. Glad to know Chris Moukarbel tackled Wigstock for our posterity. Can't wait to see the film. And yeah, Chris is TOTALLY HOT!!!!!
I just LOVE Lady Bunny, such a legend, so happy for this documentary, can't wait to watch it! ....and of course I have to say: my God, Chris Moukarbel is just a gorgeous man, and a talented director as well? Work!
Thanks Lady Bunny for having a real pulse on how drag is now. I was feeling a bit alone w/the thought of how cookie cutter drag scene is now a days.
Loved this so much!
'Wigstock': The 1st doc movie (1995) was cool toooooooooooooo.
& that’s why I respect , admire & love lady bunny !
Bunny tells it like it is in an era of political correctness and or hypocrisy.
THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! Amen Lady Bunny and thats why Nina West is the best
Thank you Lady Bunny for being a truly drag queen !
The interviewer is undressing the filmmaker with his eyes and it shows. Love it.
I moved to NYC for college in 1994 and lived in the East Village my first 12 years. So glad that I got to go to 8 Wigstocks. It was the happiest day of every year. A LOT of stories. ha
I enjoyed this so much I watched it again straight after I'd watched it
Lady Bunny's first drag pageant crowned by Ru Paul in 1984 is on youtube. And is hilarious.
What a great interviewer, really enjoyed this.
Why are AOL Build audiences always so dead?
YEEEES. CAN WE STOP THINKING THAT DEATH DROP is mandatory on a lipsync? ok Thank U .
Gui 1991 unless it’s Shangela, and then, yes, a death drop is mandatory.
it's called a dip.
👏🏽 L 👏🏽 E 👏🏽 G 👏🏽 E 👏🏽 N 👏🏽 D
Bless them for mentioning dear old Nelson Sullivan ❤️.
Bunny is sooooo spot on!
eye opening, lady bunny is a tru OG and legend
CHRIS!! u just perfectly articulated exactly why i gravitated from the punk scene to loving drag so much bc it felt more authentic - the costumes were costumes - nobody was more punk/goth than anyone else, it was genuinely subversive &dangerous to status quo.
💜Bunny, I love u so fkn much💜
Bunny is a national treasure and digitalperm needs to have my baby
Lady Bunny = Fierce Realness On Saying It Like It Fucking Is 👌🏼🙌🏼
Every now and then Bunny's southern accent comes through. That means she was TWICE as brave as the average queen. :)
Bunny is life!!!! The host sux
I truly looooooooove Gradma Bunny!!! 💖👸
I can imagine Bunny to be horrible to her parents....images of Dawn Davenport not getting ChaCha heels trashing her parents pop up 😂
Lady Bunny looking stunning 🌈
Brenda House of Shine change your prescription... lol. She doesn’t aim for stunning... unless you mean stunned like WTF. Lol
Lady Bunny is a living legend!
Exactly Bunny,.. Its the same for all the new "Voguers"... all redoing each others dance and death drop.... NEXT... that shit is OLD. Drag was about much more than just performing a dance number,,.. much much more!
Love Lady Bunny but that interviewer needs to get off this Drag Race train. Like let’s bring on someone outside the box and only talk to them about what’s inside the box.
The legendary Lady Bunny praising the one and only Kennedy Davenport. Thank you
bravo!
Yeeeeaaarrs ago I knew of Bunny before RuPaul. I want a drag Hollywood Squares with Bunny permanent center. R.I.P. Divi, you are still missed.
🤯 Chris is so fine!
Lady Bunny is a total legend.
Amen Bunny so many local queens get ignored and treated as an afterthought to the RPDR girls.
I love Lady Bunny
The shade of it all 😂
I really loved this ! ❤️ 🤮
Yes, I was a twink at some point. Hahaha love Bunny
Butch McQueen twink twank twunk. Lol. Except a twunk is a young hunk, and that ain’t Bun Bun
Graphic Jack Bunion!
THIS INTERVIEWER WAS GREAT!!!
are you effing kidding???!!
I need to be Bred by Chris and I cant waite to see this.
All the focus on drag race killed this interview
This host needs to be slapped around!! Bunny gives him so many material but he just doesn't bite. Bunny 4 President!!!
Bunny is an icon! And had so much sense. A lot of people on the left need to listen to her. So much more important things in the world than pronouns and stop being so offended by everything. If you have nothing better to do than look for ways to be offended, you really sincerely need a life.
Lady bunny is the coolest! I hope to be as smart as her someday (hopefully before I'm her age 😩)
Build, you need me in there.
Who's in the audience mannequins? Make sure you get their names and remember their faces and don't EVER let them back in the building again.
I think they didn't mic the audience...that's why you can't hear them
Chris is super handsome
here for bunny!!!!!!!!!
Go Bunny 💪🏽
Break it down Bunny!
I ❤ Lazy Bunny
Bunny is so funny
“I’m sorry I like white lines under my nose” lady bunny
Love bunny
Love lady bunny, so thankful for everything she’s done for the drag community. Host could have had more energy and been more personable but bunny and Chris handled it well.
The audience is kinda dead.
justjess1986 they kinda sucked too
Nelson was the very first vlogger
Why does Bunny keep saying that she took a 17-year break? Wigstock was revived between 2003 and 2005 as part of the Howl Festival and she was there. Why do they omit that part of its history?
When is lady bunny competing for Rupaul’s drag race? 😂 love you Bun Bun 😘
Chris is s Beautiful Man!
I love the presenters sneakers/ trainers 👟 .. does anyone know what design they are?
Onitsuka Tiger maybe?
John Mahy i was saying the same thing!
Its really depressing to me that 8 years in I still think fondly of the mythical $100 tip I got one night. That was more than I made in the next 2 shows I was in combined. Then we get all of these queens flown in at ridiculous booking fees, where the audience rarely tips the local opening acts because they've already paid $50 just to get in the door.
i luv Jurassic park check that out after too
i really thought it was Tracey Martel in the thumbnail
Great interview. Bunny is so right, Drag Race is a phenomenon but it is in danger of steam rolling and squashing the grass roots local flavor Drag Culture in the various cities across the USA and the world. The very camp British style of drag is being by passed by the young queens who are obsessed with Drag Race. That local culture that has developed over centuries could be lost in a generation. Her take on reality star culture is also on the nose- talentless airheads become famous for being famous and appear on one reality show after another. Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli were the epitome of talent glamour class and style- they were worshipped by the gay community. Along came Madonna who shook things up and really embraced gay culture. She was followed by the bland talentless pop princesses and its all been downhill since then. Thank god for GaGa! So many of the Drag Race girls are pretty but have nothing else to offer. Bunny is a living legend!
good interviewer. hot 2
chris = HOooooooooooTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
