The bike sounds great, but what's even cooler is having your son there helping you.
Those are things he will remember the most in life ,the time he helped his pops work on his motorcycle .
GOD bless and stay safe out there.

Great video! Great step-by-step instructions. I did the same to my virago and it looks and sounds awesome. Better than dropping 3 or4 hundred dollars for replacement ore after-market pipes.

Great vid. I'm gonna do this, I just got a 92 virago 1100. I'm just confused on how the back plate you drilled a hole in for the plumbing piece stays inside the pipe. The rivets are all still intact on my bike so I'll have to drill them out, but I don't see how those cupped plates actually stay in the pipe?

  • @crickle47

Congrats, very nicely done video! Good results too, looks fantastic.
Yes, those hole saws are not meant to go fast as they don't have fancy hard teeth.
Go slow and use a lot of spray cutting fluid, which is preferrable to oil. Spray about every 5 seconds.

  • @longhoffer
    @longhoffer Před 8 lety +2

On my STOCK '03 V-Star 1100 Classic, I installed a K&N reusable air filter element (flows more air), and removed the AIR injection system (to eliminate the backfire on deceleration). At this point, the stock carb jets were TOO LEAN.
The stock carbs have different size jets for each cylinder. A #110 jet is used in the carb for the (#1 rear cylinder) and a larger #112.5 jet in the carb for the (#2 front cylinder). I re-jetted the carbs by putting the larger main jet from the #2 carb (front cylinder) into the #1 carb (rear cylinder), and buying a size larger jet #115 and installing it in the #1 carb, (front cylinder).
This modification gave increased performance and I believe is ideal for these modifications.
IF THE MUFFLERS ARE MODIFIED (drilling out and removing the baffles), OR installing aftermarket slip-on mufflers, I'm sure the carb main jets will need to be increased by at least one jet size. (You can try putting a larger #115 jet in the #1 carb (rear cylinder) and a #117.5 jet for the #2 carb (front cylinder).
Making intake and exhaust mods which increase air flow without re-jetting the carbs can cause the engine to run excessively LEAN and cause the pipes to turn blue and even cause overheating and internal engine damage.

I just replaced my exhaust on MY 97 and it was not cheap by any standard. New this is an 1100 dollar exhaust system and used is only a little bit better. Having said this, why would you want to destroy an exorbitantly expensive OEM component when you could get a replacement aftermarket system instead and and maintain the original?

    • @jerlaine1638

      1. You don't have money to go buy a set of pipes.
      2. You don't have money the spare momey yo go buy a used set of pipes.
      3. You don't have money... This is getting rhetorical because it's common sense.
If you have the money to throw at it then you're likely going to end up buying a early toblate 2000's Vstar instead.
I legitimately see 3 to 5 Yamaha Viragos going for sale online locally for $500 to $1000 at a yime because of dead batteries and need of a carb rebuild all the time, why would i spend $1100 on pipes when i can buy a parts bike for half???
