Fireheart and Onewhisker helped each other, overcoming many obstacles, a strong and kind friendship. However... their friendship disappeared when they became the leaders. Onestar changed into a completely different cat, he was so mean and cold to Firestar. why did this happen?

This really shows on what their relationship was like before and after Onewhisker became Onestar. I really dislike on how cold he became after earning his 9 lives. Especially considering on how fast he broke his and Fire's friendship as well as the close ties between ThunderClan and WindClan, which is mainly why Tallstar made him deputy last minute. I really liked Fireheart and Onewhisker's friendship

I hate how Onewhiskers character was butchered because that ended up wasting Mudclaws arc as well. This meant that Onestars decision was a bad one in the long run cause he chose Onewhisker over Mudclaw purely to KEEP their connection with Thunderclan.
@@RosieNoa-co6lw yeah, I genuinely believe Tallstar did have good intentions, but what he wanted didn't go as planned. It's just upsetting seeing how he changed so quickly.
@@RosieNoa-co6lw Tbh while I'm sad Onewhisker changed so much for the worse a part of me feels content with the fact. We got an interesting character out of it and personally I feel like his changes make sense in a realistic way. Being in charge of your whole society (more like a pseudo-cult) is a lot of pressure. He was put into power right after an attempt at mutiny and civil war, he was seen as a puppet, a weak leader and a fraud by many. Clan leaders are also the main key of their clans too, these cats CANNOT at this point in time handle anything or move on without a leader. Warrior cat's hierarchy forced these leaders to be absolute and necessary for even a clan existing proper.
I understand why he would become bitter after ascending to power.
Nevertheless it's just my personal taste in characters, cause even if he was infuriating and obnoxious at least he was more entertaining than Bluestar 2.0 or Bramble-Firestar wanna-be.

I LOVE ONESTAR AND FIRESTAR CONTENT!!!
They have probably the most realistic relationship within the entire series. It's like becoming best friends with someone until you go to high school, where you grew apart from your best friend as your friend is trying to 'fit in' with other people, possibly slowly becoming a bully themselves. It reminds me a lot of that.
I always wish for a scene where Onestar faced the people he had hurt in Starclan, especially towards Firestar, now since he no longer have to wear a mask for his clan-mates.
Hope they can be friend together again in Starclan...
Hey I might be remembering wrong, but in Onestar’s Confession, the manga at the end, I’m pretty sure they meet and they just….accept it. (i think One feels a wee bit remorseful. But not a lot) U might wanna check up on that tho!

onestar sees firestar in starclan, he’s starting to feel the regret of turning his back on firestar and thunder clan. The two cats talk about Onestars life. They agree that he tried covering up mistakes with lies. Onestar starts saying he will do better in starclan, but firestar reminds him of all the good he did during his life (like helping defeat blood clan, keeping Tallstar alive during the great journey, helping thunder clan during the battle against the badgers, etc.)
The two cats head to the Moonpool, where Harestar is receiving his nine lives. Onestar reflects. He understands that in his life he failed to be honest, so he lied to cover up mistakes. When it’s his turn to give Harespring his life, he gives him the gift of Honesty. Onestar says to Harestar:
“Always speak the truth, so that you never fear any question asked of you. I hail you by your new name, Harestar. Your old life is no more. You have received the nine lives of a leader, and Starclan grants you the Guardianship of Windclan. Defend it well - care for young and old - honour your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code. Live each life with Pride and Dignity, and remember… always put your clan first.”

If I recall, "Cats of the Clans" actually touches on why this happened - when Onewhisker became Onestar, not only did he not have the support of his many because of his last-minute and suspicious appointment, but he also had to prove to his clan that he was loyal to them, and not to Firestar - plenty of them referred to him as "Firestar's kittypet," according to the book, and so he had to give up his friendship with Firestar in order to prove to his clan that he was *their* leader. It's very sad, and it's unfortunate that they couldn't really address it in the mainline series, seeing as Firestar wasn't the focus character anymore. It would have been nice if there had at least been a small little scene where they spoke at a gathering or something.
The most ironic part of this was that the sole reason he was named deputy at the last minute was BECAUSE he was compassionate and kind; Tallstar wanted his successor to be friendly and open, not cold and vicious like Mudclaw. I always thought it was sad that Onestar was too paranoid by fear of rejection to realize that.

Honestly, I was so upset on how one star changed to some overly, prideful leader with cocky ambitions. Ignoring the friendship with firestar. The friendship that he always kept, always reminding firestar that he is still thankful . Even when the rest of windclan were against him. “I didn’t forget what you did for us.” Turned into “You can never stay out of other clans! Prey stealers!” And so on..
I was confused about this too until I saw another commenter explaining it; it wasn't touched in in the mainline books, but in Onestar's spinoff story it shows us that Onestar's reputation was actually very rocky after his appointment. The clan regarded his sudden appointment as deputy by Tallstar as suspicious, and they questioned his loyalty to his own clan. They would accuse him of being more loyal to Firestar than Windclan, and called him 'Firestar's kittypet' which I imagine is like calling him Firestar's bitch. So he had to pull back and become distant/break the friendship as a show of loyalty to his clan, and even spoke out against him to further prove that. I wonder if internally Onestar was as upset about having to give that up...

I remember wanting a super edition about Onestar that went into his friendship with Firestar, how he felt when he cut his friend off, and how he reacted to Firestar's death. I have since though better of it, but their friendship was one of the few details that stood out for me in the entire series

I cried when I read that Onestar didn't help Firestar after everything Firestar had done for him. Like jeez yall had a great friendship! I get that once he got leadership over his clan he needed to show them he didnt need help but he didn't have to do that.

Trust Onestar isn’t all bad, he and Firestar still have some friendly interactions, and always remember it’s just a story!

It was really rude of him to launch the attack on Thunderclan for no reason, when Winclan HAD stole the prey they were arguing about
Onewhisker used to be my favourite character. He was so friendly to Firestar and I loved his personality, but one he became leader I hated him. Tallstar made him leader to prevent war with the clans, but instead Onestar ran around refusing to keep up the old alliance with Thunder Clan and in general being horrible. Really unfortunate how that happened

This is one thing that has always bothered me about the books, the second Onewhisker became Onestar the friendship was over

I remember loving Onewhisker when I was younger. I don’t know if it was the writing or what but his character really changed for the worse.
I left another comment but the short version of that comment - Cats of the Clans actually addresses this. Onestar was mistrusted by his clanmates and even referred to by them as "Firestar's kittypet," and so he made the choice to cut that tie to prove himself to Windclan. It's unfortunate that the main series never gets to address this or even have Firestar mention that might be the case.
I don't really think it was for the worst. It may just be my habit of liking antagonistic characters, but Onestar was turned cold so that readers could feel what our characters did. It makes the books seem more real
Their relationship falling is so tragic but it’s pretty well written in my opinion, it makes sense that Onestar became cold towards Firestar once he had the responsibility of being a leader pushed into him, he needed to show Windclan (after a big part of his clan, whom he was in good terms before all this mess, just staged a coup against him that could have resulted in his death) that he didn’t rely on Thunderclan and it leader, it goes against Tallstar wishes I know, but warrior society at its core is way to aggressive by nature for good clan relationships to exist in times of peace.
Also, at this point , he had that relationship with a kitty pet and had kits, I feel like Tallstar suddenly trying to make him leader when he had never come clean and buried his secret when they left for the lake, probably freaked him out. Imagine having to face starclan and lead your clan when you know you’re a liar and what you did. I feel like onestar’s characterization was so interesting!
Firestar looks gorgeous, you portray his joy and confusion so well, and how completely cold and calculated Onestar became. It is beautiful

Honestly the fact the voice-lines are coming from the Banshee of Inisherin are making even more sense with the two of them. A very good movie with a sort-of similar theme, it just fits very well with the idea of two cats being friends as simple warriors but becoming ennemies as leaders.
This has to be the best Firestar fed I’ve seen in ages. And it’s nice to see content focused on these two. Their bond is super underrated.

correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was in the darkest hour when Firestar fought Scourge since he was attacking Onewhisker
He actually lost 2 of his lives saving him. Once was in the darkest hour like you mentioned, the other time was in dawn when they were evacuating shadowclan from their camp while monsters were attacking. A tree was falling and about to hit onewhisker but firestar pushes him out of the way and gets hit instead

This is why I always say that Mudclaw would’ve made a better leader. Yes,he was super ambitious. Yes,he probably had a chance of causing a large war. But,Onestar was also wanting to become leader(not as bad as Mudclaw though). Onestar also caused multiple fights over borders. Honestly Mudclaw had every right to be jealous of Onestar. Imagine working so hard in a competition,almost getting first place then someone who hardly tried but had all the same ambitions as you won because they were friends with the judges kid. Thanks for reading my rant.

I especially loved it because at the one hand, Onestar had too end the friendship because of his clan but on the other he probably didn’t want to. It would have probably stayed(their friendship)if Tallstar wouldn’t have chosen him as the leader…AHHHHH WARRIOR CATS WHY ARE YOU SO ANGSTYYYYYY?!!!
I was so shocked when Onewhisker was chosen... and I agree that maybe their friendship would maintain if he didn't become the leader.
For the whole 'The prochecys begin' series, Onewhisker and Fireheart were the best of friends when Fireheart and Graystripe were bringing back Windclan. Now Onestar's greed for pride has tooken over that friendship, and yet Firestar still remembers it.
I feel like the frames where their mouths are closed are meant to imply that the words are in their thoughts, but I personally really like that it could also imply that they’re communicating more through different animal behavior like body language or small cat noises, if that makes sense? Idk, cats communicate in different ways than vocal sounds and I just find the fact that you can interpret that in this video very charming ❤ I love the designs as well, and expressions, overall wonderful job :3

I always hated how the Erins made Onestar so cold and rude to Firestar when he became leader. I personally feel like it totally goes against Onestar's personality when he was a warrior. They were so close, him and Fire. It makes no sense that he would become so callous towards ThunderClan. I miss their friendship :(

I cannot explain how well fitting this is for these two. And it makes me kinda sad.. I felt so sorry for Firestar, when he had to realise that the old Onestar is gone and with him their friendship ;-;
Gotta say it kills me realizing this.
That Tallstar’s dying wish was a complete waist of time, damaged his clan, pushed a kind character to become callous, and literally lead to probably a worse future than if Mudclaw had become leader, so Mudclaw’s death was literally purposeless. He wasn’t EVIL. Just same minded to Leopardstar, who eventually mellowed out.
(I’ve only recently read up to book 4 of The Power of 3) I mean seriously Onestar lead his clan into Thunderclan camp to assault them/try & force them out like brokenstar did. Knowing that Thunderclan would WILLINGLY help them at any time, but decides that’s a bad thing. Insulted his old best friend & his entire clan/kindness. And makes the forest a 4 clan war zone all night long. Purely cus he’s trying to be more like the other clans want him to be. Tough, spiteful, zenophobic, unthankful.
This literally made me cry. I miss their friendship so much!😢

Honestly it was one of the saddest friendship dynamics, and i hate how they never truly adressed this in canon. Not exploring onestars change in the books was one of the biggest missed potentials for a truly deep background character.

I’ve always found it fascinating and heart breaking how ShadowClan and WindClan basically switched roles in their allyship to ThunderClan, it used to be ‘don’t go near ShadowClan they eat kits for breakfast’ until, they ended up at the Lake and suddenly WindClan became the ruthless killers :/

God I love these two so much, Onestar is genuinely one of my favorite characters because of how realistic he is.
He was thrown into a position of power pretty much against his will, and had to deal with the fact that some of his clanmates wanted him dead because of it.
Then Firestar/ThunderClan is constantly in everyone’s business, which obv would make Onestar feel like he isn’t good enough if he can’t even solve his own clan’s problems.
He’s beyond stressed out, and that causes hatred, which strained his relationship between him and Firestar until it just snapped one day.
It’s honestly the perfect way his character could’ve gone.
Series 4 book 5 chapter 136, when graystripe says “Do you remember when you were fire stars friends, back in the old forest? How can we have come so far from that time? We don’t need to become enemies.” And one star said that he makes it impossible to be anything else, broke my heart. I hate one star now that he’s leader.

oooo this was super well done! To me, Firestar and Onestar's relationship was tumultuous. I think that Onestar secretly doubted himself leading his clan and constantly compared himself to Firestar, leading Onestar to hate Firestar. The pressure of being a Clan Leader, responsible for your friends and familys safety could've made him change...

Onewhisker was my fav warriors characters. Became a jerk though as Onestar and I feel so mad abt it because it DOESNT FEEL RIGHT
This is why I hate onestar, I get he wanted to be a good leader and stuff, but The way he went about it was unforgivable, he was a selfish jerk for really no sensible reason, reminds me of clear sky (who I also hate)

From his background, I can imagine Firestar never had to deal with this as a kittypet. Everyone was a friend, and fences were merely walkways, not borders. Do I think the author and writers thought or planned this? No, not really.
