Hey All! As of December 19th, we received a REALLY nice Seal of Martyr buff, increased mana regen from 10 - 20% of the damage u take from the seal. Mess around with it and lemme know how y’all like it.
Edit: still looking like command dominates over martyr
I'll personally be keeping AS in case I ever wanna sword and board, but it's something you could definitely run on single target encounters

I love the multiple play styles! I may try the full prot build just for fun, since respecs are super cheap
I leveled my Paly to 25 sword & board full prot. Did get Avengers shield at 15 and Divine Storm at 22. Enjoyed it. Have thought about trying holy to add Consecrate but I think I will wait till 40 and try a hybrid between holy/prot

The 8% increases movement speed from pursuit of justice is nice, but doesn’t beat feral druids. And we’re not super tanky just yet. Your best bet would be to go the ret talent for tanks. AS is nice for the overall burst dam and slowing its target (assuming it doesn’t miss)
I was playing with an awesome pre-made. Druid would get first flag as I rushed the other team, usually would wipe them and our team would camp the gy while I lined up for the second flag run, and druid would get third flag. It's nice to run in as a tank and pop avengers shield divine storm and consecrate gets the battle going nice and as long as you have good heals the enemy's will target you first because you're in their face while your range dps does their work and cleans everyone up

The most fun build for me is in holy ds di and consac and in prot block. Rune martir hand and shield. I have mana and aoe. And martir is ok at dps.
My atlas loot doesn't have the new BFD raid in it, is there a separate SOD atlas loot add on that does have it?
There is a atlas loot for SOD it's called Atlaslootclassic_SOD it blends in with your normal atlas loot
Great video, I plan on making a pally for my next tanking class! one suggestion for your setup. You move back and forth frequently while you're talking and it causes some jarring audio. Make sure to adjust your mic settings or edit your final product to be more even
Haha yeah I didn’t really notice until after I had recorded all of my stuff and went to editing. Didn’t wanna go back and re-record. Lesson learned to be more stationary next time :p
Not entirely sure you gain extra threat from Righteous when using Crusader Strike/Divine Storm. I know that healing abilities gives extra threat from Righteous Fury but not sure about those two. I have tried with and without Righteous Fury but threat seems the same.
I use 2 macros. Avanger shield to put shild on. And divine storm to put 2hander on. Min-maxing that domage.
Brand new to paladin/tanking. What is a general rotation for the ret build?
Avengers Shield/Exorcism > Judgement > Divine Storm > Crusader Strike/Hand of Reckoning, then just hit buttons off CD.
Essentially it’s just playing WotLK ret but holding aggro. If you’re single target and you just PUMP and don’t need an off tank, go Exorcism rune and Crusader Strike rune. You won’t need taunt on some bosses at all.
If your group just absolutely smacks and you’re solo tanking, you’ll only need taunt if you’re bubbling off bosses that do a stacking debuff
why would you not go hand of reckoning for the mana gains on heal? if you are oom constantly seems like a no brainer and you can pump more because you have mana for aoe
I found it not super effective on trash only because trash really doesnt seem to hit as hard as bosses do, so I wasn’t getting pumped heals, or heals were overhealing. When ur MT for sure it shows up, especially on akumai.
But maybe just do omega giant pulls
My personal favorite lately has been consecrate with SoM, AS, and CS. With BoW I rarely run out of mana. Feels really good in dungeons. However, just got the BIS 2H so now I think I’m going ret tree with the build mentioned here for our next BFD run. Should be great!

Sounds like a really good aoe build! Sacrificing DS for the mana regency from SoM could def work.
Try even bigger pulls and see if maybe you could swap CS with HoR. HoR might generate enough mana with heals that could make up for not having SoM, while giving you DS

Ret tanking is so fun, excited to see what phase 2 brings to prot and ret specs.
I think the variety of play styles has also been super fun. I can’t wait to see more builds as the phases go on. If we’re lucky, we’ll continue to have multiple play styles
Yeah having a single target tank build is great for raid!
It should be noted that the macro shared by @Jurdi must be clicked 3 times: ones to equip sword/board, once to cast avenger's shield, and a final time to re-equip your 2hander.
It should be an all in 1! I use it several times in the video, a one button macro than does all 3!
@@JurdiJD I'm wrong about three clicks. Clicking it once equpis sword/shield, but does not cast Avengers Shield. I press it a second time however, and it casts avenger's shield then immediately equips my 2hander.
@@hironobu64 ah yes I see what you’re saying now. If you have your 1H and shield equipped, it automatically throws your Avenger shield and swaps to the 2H. But you’ll need to hit it twice to repeat it.
Make sure you give it a full GCD I’m between tho, if you spam click it, you’ll just keep swapping without throwing the shield

@@Kurtis922 think i found it. Options > Display - then scroll down near the bottom of display before u get to Raid Frames, should be "Show Aggro Percentages" check that. Lmk if that works!

@@Kurtis922 I’ll check again when I can. I’m away for the holidays but I brought my gaming laptop. Could be an addon. Try getting Plater and see if that adds the percentage to it

Best profs for this mix of ret and prot?
Really depends. If you’re fully trying to minmax your parse, I would think to go LW for the dps leather gloves. But there those still parsing really well who went with the mail chest with BS
Another note avout divine strike, its not a spell so if you're silenced or target goes immune to magic like in afk. DS will still work

Yeah, it doesn't make sense why they put consecrate in the holy and as far down as it is, I don't mind playing multiple specs aka holy ret, or ret prot or holy prot. Some things just should be a little more accessible so you can use them in your other spec
the GCD is makeing it so that you need to cklick the macro twice
I just use the full ret dps spec with a 2 hander and the tank rune. You dont really need a shield at this level and you do almost same dps as a dpser

Which tank rune are you referring to? @JurdiJD said to not use Aegis and that he only run Hand of Reckoning if he need to taunt specifically for bosses that require taunt swapping.

y you dont need it but your healer can have a really hard time if your gear is bad.
@@hironobu64 aegis’s. it’s a bad rune. If you’re the main tank take Hand of Reckoning. Off tank crusader strike, but swap to bosses that need taunt swaps.
Some bosses u can solo tank by bubbling off the dots (gamoora and akumai), so you’d want HoR to get aggro back if you lose it.
My prot is a God I really wanna ret tank but refuse to do it unless I get the damn 2h epic sword drop. Edit just watched all the specs. Idk I played around with specs, what I run is different from everything showed and I feel like my build is better.
What about seals ? Crusader twisting a thing
Tell me more. I haven’t really heard or seen much about seal twisting as a tank.
You can twist command with the classic seals, or martyrdom with the classics. Sadly can't twist command and martirdom.

@@JurdiJD I have not played paladin in sod so far but i would say do not use consecration unless its like 5+ mobs imo
the mana efficiency of consec is very bad in classic - divine storm is a better consecration from my perspective atleast

Im thinking in later phases we’ll see a shift to consecrate (hopefully) it’s fun to have as a prot pally
Cons for aoe ret for single. In dongeon you can pull rooms with sp build. Hor is Nice for that. Would't care about cruz strike when fighting 5+ mobs.
Macro didn't work for me any suggestions?
1. Make sure you swapped the items on the macro for the actual items you have. The macro I linked has random weapons and shields on it.
If you already did that, I’ll take a look at it when I get home to make sure I pasted it right!

So with the macro, after all the avengers shield stuff, you put your shield, then after the ; you put the TWO Hander, then at the bottom is your 1H
Make sure when you’re swapping the macro with your weapons, you’re leaving all the proper spaces there. Easiest way to do this is to highlight over the default items, then shift click your item in game. It will paste it over.
If that doesn’t work, I’ll make the macro for you when I get home tonight!
I just got home, edited the macro to be a little more obvious on what the 2hander is, and what the 1hander is. That was copied straight from my game, so it SHOULD work
U say to not use block rune...wh is it bad tho ?
Block value is very low on shields at 25, the percentage increase really doesn’t make a huge difference on mitigation now. It’s not worth losing divine storm for the minor defense buff
Shamans can get 20% block chance with 40% more block value, pally can't get anything similar with talent and runes combined?
@@Mia13jml I'm HOPING we shift away from dps tanks as we go later into the season and more towards traditional tanks, encouraging prot pals to go deep into the prot tree for holy shield, and maybe using aegis and other tank designed runes.
I would hate for another fury prot warrior meta to evolve again at max level
@@JurdiJDI would like this as well, but the meta in WoW shifted a long time ago to DPS zerging. EVERYTHING is about DPS, and meters just make it worse.
Used to be the job of the tank was to hold aggro while not wasting too much of the healers mana. If no one dies: successful tank. These days if you aren't "pumping" you're ridiculed and not taken seriously.
Treath is king in classic boys. Won't change in sod. We might have 1 or 2 boss we need full def. But zug zug
I play Prot Paladin in SoD with shield, 351GS i only need boots from the 3 piece set to be complete Bis, fastest raid was yesterday 38 minutes. No concencration, just divine storm and avengers shield for good threat. I go full Prot and I havent died in the last 7-8 runs. I might try 2H tanking but this is an RPG game for me that i dont really min max, i dont think it would be a huge difference in clearance time either. Biggest issue is going OOM, everything else is awesome for Prot paladin in my opinion.
Run ds/cs/exo - full ret spec - do not spec into imp judge for any spec, its waste of mana running command, you only press it when seal is 5 second or less and yiu have nothing else to press.
Mitigation isnt needed in any form for the content.
150dps, impossible to rip aggro and you never oom on any fights or trash doing cs > ds > exo > judge
BONUS+ Get fathom or Hydra and that proc alone does MORE aoe dmg than pressing consecrate on CD

Why would you even play prot at all though, playing ret i do twice as much dps in both aoe and single target, threat is easy you can play full ret with RF, you never oom in 90 second fights [all of them]
There’s a large variety of groups and players in SoD atm, some are running traditional tanks that work for them, and some or doing more meta min max builds for faster clears.
because you want to play what is fun to you, not what someone else considers fun
If youre going to be weapon swaping, make sure you have a swing timer addon. Personally i just go exo over AS.
Also, make sure your raid leader has you in the wind fury group, this can get overlooked for alliance players sometimes.

mana is an issue because you are trying to be top dps as a tank, get the weak aura threat differential on namplates, when the threat is = to half the mobs remaining health move on, stop spending mana on it, lets you chain pull and never go oom and never lose a mob.
Your job is to gather and keep all the mobs not worry about the meter. runs are way faster if you aren't drinking.
The reason I argue about dps as a tank is the eventual fury prot tanks we’re going to see going into level 60. If it’s still the meta, ideally you’d want to be able to counter it with something else

Better to put to Diving Intellect instead of Strength. Even at higher levels.

So you think having a total of like 5 more int is going to do anything for you? Fights are 90 seconds its impossible to oom if you just play right, that's a nonfactor
@@dakotaevans8479 Int also increases spell crit. All those judgements and other holy spells you got. Those food buff and int buff will add up. How the heck you cant get oom? are you not pumping. lmao
