I'm reading Ayn Rand's book, "Atlas Shrugged," and find it among the top books I've ever read! It mirrors so much the direction our country and the rest of the western world are headed by embracing socialist Marxist ideology!
Atlas Shrugged is the greatest symphony of language a human being has ever produced.
Amazing how Ayn Rand's books and talks are just as relevant today if not more-so.

You wake up tomorrow and you find yourself living in a Randian based society.
Those in charge dictate that after a six months period ALL government tax funded spending on things like education, welfare, medical help. farm subsidies, environmental protection, workers rights on pay and conditions etc. etc, etc, etc, etc, etc will be stopped?
How would those millions upon millions upon millions of very ordinary citizens and their families ensure there children's get an education, how do those who cannot after health careeners pay for them, those on limited incomes (that's almost everybody) afford access to food and the rest.

Over population is obviously a world problem and will be the most difficult one to solve but it has little to do with the question I asked.
Did your parents fully fund your private education or did they like the majority use the tax funded system for your education?

It’s a mistake to look to one person, no matter how amazing that person may be, to solve the problems of the world. Her philosophy, Objectivism, is still around today. It’s not perfect but if we were to employ it we would see better results than what we are currently seeing with the looters and the mooches in charge.

Reason is the integration of feeling and thought, used appropriately. When she says life must be guided "not by feeling" she is referring to feeling without thought.

@@A_A_12_…I admired Ayn Rand when I was young and idealistic, and glad that I discarded her extremist views once I experienced the true power of God; as faith and feelings became more essential than reason alone. My life is better for it, and hopefully I shine a brighter light now, than when I was a smug intellectual. Rand descended into an immoral, deceitful lifestyle and died a lonely woman…because she denied God and His precepts. 😢

The mistake is that men think they are the creator of any idea, in fact they're the receiver of it. Where does it come from, if not your own brain? It comes from the spirit realm. Not all ideas or thoughts are good, so it is our job to discern what comes from God and what comes from perhaps a demonic entity. Your thoughts are not your own, start from there.

I like her but I disagree with her on emotions. Your emotions are a reaction to your logic/reason. If something you value is in danger you get scared and try to protect what you value. If you think an injustice has been committed you get angry and try to correct the injustice. If you suffer from misfortune you become sad and try to think of ways to avoid suffering from the same misfortune again. And you can't truly believe selfishness is a virtue without valuing happiness. The problem isn't that people are too emotional it's the opposite. Listening to your emotions is necessary to live with integrity.
Reason is feeling and thinking combined. Also, it's rational selfishness or rational self-interest. Not just selfishness as you say. It's making yourself the best you can be and in doing so, you lift all of those around you.

Fun fact - Ayn Rand refused to attend anti-communist meetings where William F. Buckley showed up, since Buckley ran a negative critique piece on Atlas Shrugged in The National Review.
