DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSS DATA
    1) These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
    2) These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
    3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
    4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
    5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
    6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
    7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
    8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
    9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

Too small. 50,000 is a spoiling attack. At the beginning of the war, before defenses were built and Western aid had poured in, it would have been enough to close the gap to Kharkiv. It didn't. They never reached Kharkiv.
Now, 50,000 will cover the gray zone and give a larger daily loss on both sides, but no real progress.

Ukraine should be given permission to strike inside Russia a certain distance to create the same size buffer zone that Russia is seeking in Ukraine. The west needs no more reasons to allow this other than what has unfolded in Kharkiv. These arbitrary constraints are getting ridiculous and indefensible and need to be removed today.

It's going to need to be done like JP said about Wild Weiselling and draining the system and then hitting it. I don't think they will use the Aircraft they have now even though we can. But it be much more dangerous than in F-16s! F-16s best jobs are SEAD (Supresion of Enemy Air Defenses), Dog Fighting which I really don't see happening, cause their next best job is BVR (Beyond Visual Range) air to air engagements without getting within seeing distance! From what I hear the News was passed up, but I was told by some it won't be done yet! But that means nothing really! They wouldn't tell me when they would do it anyway!

So after 2+ years of fighting the Russian military still has not learned.
It can advance a small amount with bad casualties when Ukraine is short of artillery or it can advance a tiny amount with terrible casualties when Ukraine does have artillery.
But neither of these things wins wars. It just expends resources at a slightly different pace.
It stinks of desperation and a lack of any real ideas or strategy.
The kharkiv offensive has only 1/10th of the forces required to take the city. The Russian forces deployed look green and inexperienced and have learned no lesson from other Russia attacks in the Donbas.
It's more of a shooting gallery than a distraction. It expending more limited resources on a bad idea with little gain.
At this point the whole Russian strategy has degenerated to:
"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

  • @SilverWolvesScarletForestSnow

This gentleman was a economic analyst in the Soviet times. He's the ultimate bureaucrat, who will never challenge or be innovative. At least Shoigu had been around long enough to understand the military economy, logistics, and doctrine.

Wild Weasel missions can now a days be flown by drones as was pioneered by Israel. The US military is probably testing equipment, tactics and methods to best learn what works and doesn't. As we watch a different type of warfare take place, we are seeing that the rigid Russian top down approach is much slower to adapt to these changes. In a military where you can be shot for merely asking for a clarification of orders, it doesn't encourage the kind of individual initiative needed to adapt quickly. The US military as well as others like China (if they got any brains, which I think they do) will incorporate lessons learned into useful adaptations. While everyone is getting the impression that combined arms with armor must be dead, they haven't considered that the equipment and tactics will adapt. Example: You want to launch an armored attack and achieve a breakthrough. An adaption might be that you have a swarm of killer drones to take out a majority of the enemy FPV kamikaze drones. I could give you dozens of adaptations but you get the point that the side that adapts the best will win!

Good day. Concerning raising the taxes of russian oil, while I agree that is suggest a need to increase revenue, I think that it is a sign of the increasing nationalization of industry. Russia has quietly been sizing industries that support the war effort such as those in the manufacturing and refining of metals. soon the only entity that will profit from russian oil will be the government. Once this happens there will be very little resistance to handing over the industry.

Vegetable oil is biodegradable. It won't "contaminate the land".

    • @ATPGeo
      @ATPGeo  Před 22 dny +4

Oil is natural and is biodegradable and is a contaminant too. You might be interested in the article: "Converting vegetable oil contaminated soil into fertile land.":
Most places in India Palm oil wastes are dumped into fertile lands taken on lease by the production units. The solid substances of these landfills can be often converted into fertilizers, bioenergy etc. After either treating of waste or relocating of waste leaves behind its oil residues Thus creating oil contaminated soil which is completely infertile and shows no existence of insects or worms in the soil.
This soil can take a minimum of 5-6 years to recover based on the level of contamination.
      ***
Or check the Advances in Microbiology journal article "Bioremediation of Vegetable Oil Contaminated Soil with Two Microbial Isolates":
Vegetable oil spills are becoming frequent and are potentially more challenging than petroleum hydrocarbon spills. Microbial lipases occupy a place of prominence among biocatalysts and are often used for the remediation of vegetable oil spills. There is a need for extensive characterisation of lipase for the treatment of vegetable oil-polluted sites. This work was carried out to monitor the degradation pattern of vegetable oil. Two microbial isolates previously isolated from an oil mill in Ibadan, Nigeria were used for the bioremediation experiment. Soil samples (with some purposely contaminated with 2 different vegetable oils) collected from the Nursery section of the Microbiology department as well as soil samples from the oil mill were all subjected to varied treatment processes. Field bioremediation using the isolates was carried out for 12 weeks. The isolates were identified, and microbial load and residual oil weight were determined during the degradation period using standard methods. The two isolates were identified as Pseudomonas fluoresecens and Candida parapsilosis. The result of sterile soil samples with and without mixing option, from palm oil and palm kernel purposely contaminated soils for all the various treatments, showed a general increase in total viable counts from the 2nd week to the 12th week, however in the non-sterile counterpart there was a steady increase from the 2nd week to the 8th week and subsequently, a gradual decrease from the 10th to the 12th week. The residual oil weight in the sterile purposely palm oil-contaminated soil, treated with the consortium (POC) non-mixed gave a reduction of value from 0.335 g on day 0 to 0.13025 g by the 12th week. From the oil mill non-sterile, treated with (POC) non-mixed sample, the residual weight after 12 weeks of treatment was 0.0043 g from an initial weight of 0.01 g. The microorganisms Pseudomonas fluoresecens and Candida parapsilosis had the potential for the degradation of fatty waste. They could therefore be employed in the environmental cleanup of the vegetable oil spill sites.
      ***
Or check the LACCEI journal article "Vegetable oil contaminated area: site-specific bioremediation treatments.":
The environment is negatively impacted by occasional discharges from industrial activity. When these events contain insoluble compounds such as fats and oils, they are high impact pollutants. This work focuses on an environmental problem in the industrial area of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where a lagoon was contaminated by vegetable oil residues. The aim of this work is to study bioremediation strategies in order to propose solutions for the remediation of the lagoon. For this way, autochthonous vegetable oil degrading bacteria were isolated from Lagoon 3, and the conditions to produce bacterial biomass were evaluated. Then, through microcosms systems using contaminated coastal soil, different site-specific treatments were tested: a control as natural attenuation; a bioaugmentation treatment with autochthonous vegetable oil degrading bacteria; two biostimulation treatments with nitrogen and phosphorus, and with spent mushroom substrate. Although both bioaugmentation and biostimulation showed promising results, biostimulation with N, P was the most effective for site-specific bioremediation of Lagoon 3, achieving 67% of oil vegetable reduction at 60 days.

    • @bertoldriesenteil1430
      @bertoldriesenteil1430 Před 22 dny +1

@@ATPGeo There is a difference between saying "vegetable oil is a contaminant", by which you give it a predicate or attribute, and the concept of " vegetable oil contaminated soil" (see your first sentence) in which the contamination is a predicate of the soil. The first proposition is not necessarily true as a generalisation because we eat vegetable oil and it doesn't contaminate us. If it is old oil that has been used for cooking or refined by heating then it might contain all sworts of secondary substances that it has been contaminated with. I can't imagine that this is the case in Ukraine because it is a supplier of sunflower oil.
The term contaminated soil is very vague. It can mean anything from mixed with, to polluted by. If I pour a bucket of water onto the patio I have contaminated it. Some microbes will die, others will thrive as a result. I could count the dead ones. But what is the point? The scientific experiments on the toxisity of vegetable oil that you quote are presumably from other parts of the world where largescale dumping of vegetable oil and Palmoil byproducts from the cosmetics industry, not fit for consumption because they are chemically transformed and toxic, are a serious environmental problem.
Try to divert your attention from this type of relatively minor environmental issue in Ukraine to bigger issues. For example Asbestos dust. You only need to scratch asbestos cement and it releases thousands of asbestos-dust particles that can kill you in 20 years or so. You look at war foorage from Ukraine all the time. You see those asbestos cement panels being hit by Hymars and drones. It was used in communist countries longer than in the west. It is quite literally on every corner. Fences are made from it too. This is a contaminant that is millions of times more dangerous than a few thousand gallons of spillt sunflower oil. But nobody mentions it. Armies don't have HSEs do they.
