    Also, “Until Noble Arms are Needed Once Again” is a reference to the ending of Arthur’s tale, in that, after being taken to Avalon, Arthur was healed, and there waits until Britain’s hour of need, when he will then return.

    There were actually quite a few knights that survived the fall of Camelot.
    Also Excalibur is not the sword in the stone. Which everyone seems to get wrong. The sword in the stone is just a regular sword enchanted by Merlin, arthur doesnt get excalibur until he breaks his original in battle and Merlin takes him to the lady of the lake. Another thing no one mentions is that excalibur's scabbard was actually Arthur's most powerful item, as on the battle field as long as he has it he will never bleed. So it essentially made him unkillable (until morgana steals it and throws it in some random lake never to be seen again.)

      @@alexanderlowery1471Except Caliburn and Excalibur are the same sword. Both names are derived from the Welsh name Caledfwlch - which itself may borrow from a similarly named Irish sword Caladbog. The name Excalibur is English likely by way of common Britionic and Caliburn (Caliburnus) is a Latinization of the original Welsh name. Arthurian legend comes from multiple sources and traditions - it's sort of like how God creates man and women twice in Genesis - so there a multiple conflicting, even mutually exclusive, stories about how things happened depending on the author, the author's nationality - Welsh vs. English vs French - and the time period 800s to 1500s.

    Actually the enchantress is really Morgana half sister to Merlin. According to legend she was a trusted adviser to Arthur. Merlin knew of their shared blood though which side is kinda vague as the story isn’t complete. Anyway Merlin believed her evil as she was more of an action type person not one to talk on subjects which he was. Merlin in anger dueled her to the death which he won though not without crippling himself in the fight (fairly common though Morgana hit Merlin’s leg severing the nerves leaving him unable to walk without his staff). She wasn’t at Arthur’s death as Morgana was technically dead at this time. It’s one of the tellings as there are many but it’s one of the originals.

      I disagree. In a vacuum it's a very good action/adventure flick with some really cool fantasy sword fights. However if you compare it directly to the source materials they simply took the names of the most popular characters from the mythos and put them in there because making a new IP is too risky. Not to mention the whole movie desperately tries to set up it's own universe so most of the plot threads never get resolved. Its visually interesting and action is really cool looking but beyond that it didnt have much going for it.
      That's not to say I wasnt slightly dissapointed all the sequels were cancelled because I wouldve loved to see lancelot kick some ass.

      @@travissmith9894 When you compare any version of the Autherian lore to the original, you find that the original is just as varied as every other version. Lol. Seriously...it's kinda hilarious that way.
      I found the movie thoroughly engaging in its own right, with Charlie's Arthur in particular being really interesting. And Daniel Pemberton's score is phenomenal, especially given that it was his first major film.
      I can't think of any plot points that were relevant to the film that weren't resolved tho. What were some?

    • @travissmith9894
      @travissmith9894 Před 3 lety

      @@EmrysMerlin8807 True I get that. What kind of annoys me about most arthurian media is that it's always trying to 'modernize' the formula, even though the last accurate arthurian film was probably Excalibur from the 80s, and watching it today can be tough as it is very low budget (VERY low lol.). I personally just want to see someone translate the stories as accurately as possible to the screen because no one has really tried doing that especially not with a big budget behind it. The stories of lancelot and gawain alone are interesting enough for their own films.
      What I really meant is that there are a lot of plots they introduce that are set up for sequels but will never get expanded on past the first film.
      I do love the sounds track! Really stellar, I've got a lot of them on my playlist, the rendition of 'Devil and the huntsman' is excellent, and 'old oak' is a great piece too.
      Not to mention the performances by Hunnam and Jude Law are really good, they couldve just phoned it in but you can tell they really care about how it turns out.
      I just feel like it would've been much better as a new IP completely removed from the influence of King Arthur's mythos, Or just been maybe a bit longer so they could flesh out the characters and plot more (no one outside Arthur was too memorable). It really sucked that the big creepy island trial is like a 2 minute montage.
      Just rented it cause I figure it's worth another go.

    • @EmrysMerlin8807
      @EmrysMerlin8807 Před 3 lety +1

      @@travissmith9894 There's so much I agree with in your last comment, lol!
      Let's see...Yeah, Seasoned Oak is legit. I'm also a fan of The Legend of Excalibur, Growing up Londinium, and the Born King. Seriously, that last one gives me shivers every time.
      I really like the Excalibur movie, but for my money, the Merlin mini-series from 98 is probably the most lore-accurate film adaptation. Not only does Sam Neill knock it out of the (Jurassic) park as Merlin, but you have everyone from Martin Short to Helena Bonham Carter just really doing a great job. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
      With regards to the modernization, I feel where you're coming from. But because the Arthurian mythos is a codifier for so many, many things, I feel like modern attempts to retell stories are better viewed as reflections on the societies at the time. King Arthur is kinda like Superman in that way- every other 'King' is some sort of derivative of Arthur in some way. So for me, it's facinating to see the myriad of new versions of the original stuff.
      In this case, it's 'What if King Arthur had a Total Gym in every room he ever walked in?"
      :D

The knights of the round was created soon later with the focus upon giving Britain history cause the first info of the legend was in a fragmented poem that discuss Mordred and Arthur in battle and falling down a hill or a ravine with no context. I do see your point of view but in reality Arthur is a melting pot in everything from Britain to Ireland and everything in between (and France for...
