  • A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying an uncrewed Cargo Dragon spacecraft launched from Space Launch Complex-40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on March 21, 2024 at 4:55 p.m. EDT (2055 GMT).
    The mission, known as CRS-30, will be the first cargo launch from SLC-40 since March 2020. Since then, the pad has been outfitted with a new launch tower, which allows for more efficient cargo loading and upgrades the facility to support crewed launches as well.

    I'm a 77 year old in the UK. As a young kid, I had all the Space comics and tin plate rocket models and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be around to see this happening in my lifetime 🚀🚀🚀

      It's incredible with which precision they slow down and land smoothly. I was thinking 2km altitude an 1000km/h... isn't that a bit too much? No room for error. Computers are fantastic.

    I honestly don't understand how it uses so much fuel to get to main engine cutoff, then somehow turns around, drops back along the path it came, landing softly using only a fraction of the fuel it used to get to main engine cutoff.

    • @brianletter3545
      @brianletter3545 Před 2 měsíci

      The mass of the returning vehicle is a small fraction of the liftoff mass because well over 90% of the fuel was burned, getting the 2nd stage high enough to orbit.
      Yes the 1st stage looks the same but nearly all its fuel has been burned off, it is only a large, empty tank that has to be steered back to the landing site, wherever that may be.

      Ok smart guy, wanna see some real f'n film flam? I cant wait to hear your response after viewing- an apology will suffice.
      Here is a video on youtube of the rocket launch of starship test flight #3 which happened about a week ago. AT 3:16 mark the rocket stops ascending and starts to level out... and is level until about 3:26, in which at this point, after being horizontal with the ground, it starts its Descent downwards back down to earth until they cut off the shot at about 4:15mark. And before you think it - No, this isn't the booster falling down. That hasn't happened yet.
      This is the fate of all rockets Up,, level out, and then its back on down to earth landing somewhere out at sea. Ever hear of the firmament smart guy?
