    Personally i would cut the end with the new growth off of the decursiva and the others parts with the healthy leaves, and start a new plant by propagating.

    Bird Nest ferns don’t like chlorinated water or to be watered on the crown in the center where the new leaves form.
    I grow all my ferns in African Violet pots and use distilled or rain water. Works great and the water reservoir provides the humidity they need. ❤️😸❤️

    I think the Chrystal with the plants looks absolutely beautiful together. Giving me some idea for my shelves I put up that I couldn't quiet figure out deco wise. I have this one rock my son found for me with purple crystal in it which looks cool, but seeing urs under the glass looks sooo nice. Thnx for the idea.

    The maiden hair fern is difficult for me as well. I gifted mine to a friend it was just too much drama 🤣🤣🤣 it loves humidity, and sun
    And I didn't have it to give. I totally understand what your going through 🤣🤣🤣

    Oh my. I was never a fan of ferns. We had one many years ago and it gave a lot of problems. I don't have any at the moment. I absolutely love those crystals. Love the styling in those domes. It gives them such a classy look. I look forward to seeing more. That plant looks like it might be invested with something that you cannot see. Best to clip and start a new plant to see what happens.

    Three suggestions regarding ferns. Use self watering planters, dappled or bright indirect light, and moist but not wet, soil. Other suggestion is to cut out old dead stuff and move them to smaller pots. Last one is to make sure the surrounding area is not arid, a little more humid than normal.

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Mark! Really appreciate it. Smaller pot seems smart, but could dry out faster too 🙈

    So I have a maidenhair fern that did the same thing to me after letting it dry out a little too much so here’s my advice. I cut off basically everything except for a few good sized frawns. That fern will grow back like a weed if you do that because it stimulates more growth. Also with watering I like to wait until the top soil is slightly dry and then I’ll water it again. In my experience my low humidity has never been an issue and my room is quite cold (65 ish with a fan). One more thing that I noticed is that my fern loves air flow which might be why it’s growing back so vigorously. After about a month or two I now have a pretty big healthy fern again. You got this!

    So Many plants do not like what's in our tap water. Try distilled water and see if that dosen't help.

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m on well water, but that’s besides the point! Chlorine and fluoride can damage foliage as I’m sure a lot else can happen!

    These types of videos are becoming more common, and I find every one of them to be comical. Many YTubers don't share the fact that some plants just don't like them. Philodendron Brandi and Verrucosum are two I will not repurchase. Oh, Pearls and Jades/ NJoys may be on that list also.

  • @raygv1
    @raygv1 Před 2 lety +2

    If a plant is right next to a humidifier I find that they die back like that. Birds nest ferns are a lot tougher than you might think. Pull it away from the humidifier they like more passive humidity. Never attempt a maiden hair fern outside of a terrarium. Cut the dried mmm fern back all the way back to the ground and put it in a closed terrarium

    • @Unpotted
      @Unpotted Před 2 lety +1

      Also, distilled water or rain water is healthier than mineral-laden chlorinated tap water.
      They don’t like top watering, which usually causes crown rot. Bottom water only on all terrestrial ferns. 😸✌️

    I wonder if the terracotta pots dry the plants out too much? Even just as cover pots. Glazed ceramic or plastic might work better?

  • @billybailey4593
    @billybailey4593 Před 2 lety +1

    Try self watering pots on your ferns I would not bother with terracotta pots on them because they steal the moisture that they need

    I’ve been collecting crystals for years and just love the way they look paired with plants. I love what you have going on with yours. The feature wall looks great! FERNS!!!!! Wth!?! I have the same problem. My first ruffled fern was delivered with pests so the company replaced it. Now it’s dying too and I just can’t figure out why. About to give up on it…Getting a rabbits foot fern this time.

    I've had the same "issues" with my R. decursiva, as have many other folks. I chopped up my runners and propagated the nodes in sphagnum. I now have multiple infant decursivas that I'm experimenting with to see whether ANY of them grow into plants WITH LEAVES! . And I'm currently chopping up several feet of new runners for propagation. Not certain why I choose to continue to struggle with this plant.

    • @Unpotted
      @Unpotted Před 2 lety

      Decursivas are climbing vines. Absent a support to climb, they will send out leafless runners searching for a vertical surface to attach and climb with stem roots.
      The vertical climbing surface might need to be moist for the plant to attach and grow leaves.
      It also might need brighter light.
      Good luck! ❤️😸✌️

    The last plant very sad maybe it’s come in with a virus, personally i would put the whole thing in the bin and look for another from a different supplier. Particularly as the nursery are also having issues xx
