    Gil...I am 66 and only been trap shooting for 4 years. Tried both eyes...one eye...sight blinders and many other horrible failures. I eventually admitted my problem was not the gun and was my horrible flinch. Solved by a release trigger. Went back to two eyes and shot 98 and 97 consecutively. Two eyes is a must and the gun has to become invisible when the bird leaves the house. Learning to use the periphery while concentrating on the bird takes a lot of practice...something that has to be developed. I use this video quite often while teaching trap here in Ohio. Thanks!

    This is the best explanation I have seen on this.
    There is a lot of confusion on this because I have listened to top pro shooters talk about what they see, and they completely contradict each other.
    There has to be a visual awareness of the barrel.

    Gil, as a new shooter, I was squinting my less dominant eye and aiming and looking down the barrel. Average bird hits, 8. I changed to both eyes open and concentrating on the bird. 18 to 20 average kills. Thank you for your insights.

      As a cross eye dominant shooter, I tend to close one eye just before I slap the tigger.if I am shooting a sxs,my left /lead hand seems to block my left eye enough to keep both eyes open

    Awesome video ! This is one of my major issue that struggling to keep the barrel fuzzy and focus only on the target. Not to mention the positions that was clarified in this video. Thanks a lot ! Cant wait to try out and hope wont fail next time on the exam : )

    Good stuff. New to the sport, it took me a while to under what Gil means. Just a minor suggestion, add two arrows in the diagrams to indicate moving directions of the target and the barrel. This will clarify what Gil means by "seeing the sharp target behind the fuzzy barrel."

    I’ve put this into practice I only follow the clay with both eyes so if I’m looking at the clay how is my gun giving the lead it needs because I’m still not hitting clays consistent but I can see the lead is wrong which would relate to only looking at the clay any advice I could get would be great

  • @grahamedwards9920

    That’s a really neat way of explaining a solution to my current problem. A variation on the “ignore the barrels/bead, concentrate on the bird”.

    • @TonyPac-ub3dd
      @TonyPac-ub3dd Před 6 měsíci

      You don't ignore the bead you see it with your minds eye as you focused on the bird. Minds eye peripheral vision or what ever name you want to use. You can focused on clay bird and still see you bead. Then you just move your bead in front of bird.

  • @jeffmckee2981
    @jeffmckee2981 Před 3 lety +3

    What is the purpose of a bead or fiber optic sights on a shotgun barrel? When wing shooting you should never look at the bead.

  • @istimsakabdulbasir2438

    I have this a lot, "don't focus on your sights focus on the target". I don't shoot shotgun but I do dry fire with AR-style carbines. What I practice is getting the rifle to the target as fast as possible and acquire good sight alignment. The target is in my center vision, the sights on my rifle are blurred

    That’s literally exactly opposite of correct. You always want to see the target through the gun. Keep your head planted on the comb. The gun moves with your head. Every time you lift your head to see the target before the gun gets there, you will miss. My coach called it peaking over the fence lol. Don’t lift your head and peak over the fence

    Its amazing how many `top` shooters I meet say they dont like this or that RIB on a particular gun?. .I say you should,nt be looking at the rib? same with beads?!. . Can remember last Olympics a chap had got white tape wrapped around end of barrels, saying it helps in peripheral vision. . .Mmmmmmm. . .

    This is not a good teaching video. I've watched many of your older ones that are. If you replace a shooting video of gun, shot & real target you don't have much.
