Tony and JoeyC team up to talk about Double Dragon! The video game movie from the 90s that isn't as good as Mortal Kombat, as funny as Street Fighter, or as memorable as Super Mario Bros. It is full of dumb fun though!
In post-apocalyptic California, brothers Billy Lee (Scott Wolf) and Jimmy (Mark Decascos) are highly trained martial artists living in the ravaged city of New Angeles. The pair have been trained by Satori (Julia Nickson), who took them in after their parents died. When Satori finds herself pursued by evil overlord Koga Shuko (Robert Patrick), who's intent on possessing her mystical dragon medallion, the siblings are charged with protecting it from Shuko and his henchmen.

I remember watching this in highschool and was wondering if Shuko asked Linda lash to stay behind for some steamy Double Dragon action.

I have a soft spot for the early 90s video game movies. I just love how stupidly fun they were.

Woah!! Wrestlemania 14 wasn't Bret Hart and Stone Cold. It was Stone Cold vs Shawn Michaels with Mike Tyson has special enforcer. It's when Stone Cold won the WWF title for the first time and the whole Stone Cold era started. 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
You GOTTA check out Mark Dacascos (Jimmy) in the Brotherhood of the Wolf. He's excellent.
I always felt like the movie was more of a cartoon adaptation than the video game adaptation. At best a mix of the video game and cartoon. And yes there was a mystical power themed double dragon cartoon series.
Im pretty sure that is what it is. I don't think anyone gave a crap about the video game, everything about this says they were looking at the animated series. You couldn't make a movie based on that original game, there is no story to it really...Arcade games weren't made for stories.

I remember Mark Dacascos from Only the Strong where he teaches capoeira to inner city students.
I only picked that movie up on DVD earlier this year had known of it for years but never got to see it.
This has been one of my guilty pleasure movies since it came out. I love it. Filmed in Cleveland. The soundtrack is also super fun. Especially “Green Mind” by Dink.

In the late 90s and early 00s Double Dragon was one of those movies that was ALWAYS on Saturday or Sunday in the middle of the day. I loved it every time.

This movie isn't as Kicky as Power Rangers, probably, so I already don't like it -mint
Two of my friends got to be extras in this. One of them was a Mailman, not the one they showed here, but did have a quick close up when they boys were surrounded. My other friend got to skate in Clevelands Galleria and did a ollie off the center water fountain. Was cheesey but I did like this and watched a'lot when was younger.

Ahhh memories from Wrestlemania 14 where Mike Tyson refereed that CLASSIC Last Blood Match between Bret Hart & Stone Cold. And that UNFORGETTABLE finish where Tyson rang the bell early and screwed Bret, forever known as the "Mon-ThweeAll Skwoo Job!"

The reason that this movie is so weird is they are loosely following the plot of the Animated series. I personally love this film. Abbobos line where he calls them ugh lee and home lee it's classic

Instead of dark and gritty mangas, animes, and OVAs based on the Double Dragon trilogy...
DIC instead gave us a cheesy cartoon that feels more like it was based off of Ninja Gaiden.
I think it was a Sheldon Lettich (action director) interview that said the Double Dragon bombed action star Mark Dacascos career to a degree for quite a while after
Double Dragon and Street Fighter are both dumb fun. Somehow missed both movies until last year. Tubi is great.
I just added Tubi recently, I have Street Fighter on DVD when I picked up a JCVD 17 movie collection 30% off. Will need to look for Double Dragon on Tubi.
Street Fighter is actually funny compared to Double Dragon.

When I think Double Dragon story my mind goes to the cartoon with that version of Shadow Master and the Double Dragon Dojo. Then I think about the movie. Then some of the video game narratives.
I remember seeing the movie in the theater with my best friend and his dad. Robert Patrick was the bad guy and he kept saying "oh shit"

In the games it's actually post apocalyptic is why Jack City was what it was, and why they had such a odd set of locals to fight at. Here? Sure a earthquake I guess, whatever lol.

I actually bought this movie on Blu-ray. I don't know if it is just my copy, but the lip sync is off. It was a little weird. My DVD didn't have the same problem, but that was a different company that released it.

As a fan of both Arcade games,and Double Dagon Advanced, I will never watch his movie. Bad enough that the NeoGeo version had badly digitised footage from the film in it.
my dad would rent the hell out of this movie for me as a kid all because i wanted to see the suits. love it till this day. also abobo still grosses me out.
Amazon has the rifftrax version very funny. Childhood memories watching this over and over in the early 90s kept rewinding the street fighter preview on the vhs. Sadly wasn’t allowed to watch it due to Van Damn movies being too adult for me.
I saw this in theaters, and while it's not like the game, I loved it. Corny yes, but Fine and Fun.

I loved the Double Dragon games as a kid, but I absolutely hated this movie.
The budget was only 7.8-million. That's pretty low for a film of this ilk, even for 1994.
Can't say it was a good movie. But also can't say I wasn't entertained! Great video man!
