Posterior Lumbar Fusion & Instrumentation at L3-S1

This animation depicts a posterior lumbar fusion and instrumentation at L3-S1. An incision is made at the posterior lumbar spine, exposing the L3-S1 vertebrae. A laminectomy and facetectomy are performed and pedicle pilot holes are drilled. A discectomy is performed and cages with iliac bone graft are placed into the disc spaces. The transverse processes are then decorticated and pedicle screws are placed, followed by posterolateral fusion using mixed bone graft, rods, and a crosslink.
