Thanks. I do have the energy charts for the mig19 from a book but I am paranoid that they are going go be off from ingame stats. Was hoping someone in dcs had done a test and normalized the data.
Iv mostly got all my experiance in the F-14. Learned the F/A 18 so i can teach my buddys how to fly in the first place(they never flew before) with a dash of f16 and good ammount of Mirage. However I want to start learning the 21 and 19. Just bought the 19. Had the 21 but the training missions are garbage for the 21. any tips/advice? or is it a crash and burn till you get it jet?
@@KaiserHabsburg I do not play single player at all. I just threw myself in mp until I got it. I've been wanting to do another mig21 video at some point. For now I would watch videos to get a baseline understanding.
Interesting if you do like me and load only one cannon up so you fire on one until out of ammu and than you load the other? Lovely vid by the way and I often load with the rockets as well for the slow speed climbs they try to pull on you some times and you can rocket them :)
The RWR only tells you when you're locked from behind, to hone in on that point a little further - the antenna is at the tip of the tail fin and points backwards. It was originally intended for warning the pilot if a gun-ranging radar (like the Sabre has) was locking onto them.

I just realized how much the Mig-19 resembles the F-100... Except for the wing fences they're very similar. Come to think of it the F-100 could have used those wing fences many times!
Make sure to use the low altitude mode on the radar. The screen won’t help you search targets but it still locks aircraft that are on your nose. Edit: You can also remove the camera in front of you if you want
@@Enigma89 There is still a chance of locking targets in normal mode (mode 2) if the screen only shows white noise as the tracking radar is a completely separate antenna from the search antenna

Thanks for watching another video and for the congrats note; I too have been surprised how fast my channel has been growing. 😅 I do not know if you play more single player or multiplayer but just keep two things in mind. 1) IL-2 multiplayer scene, IMO, is in a better place than the DCS scene. 2) The Mig-19 has extremely limited air to ground capabilities, so if you want to be able to do air to ground the Mig-21 may be better. Both are great modules. If you play with DCS stand alone (not steam), there is a trial period you can do to test any plane for 14 days before having to buy. If you do switch to DCS, never pay full price for anything, everything goes on sale every few months. All in all, I think DCS is a very ambitious game but it has a lot of problems. I don't think I could ever play it as my main game because I really only play multiplayer and I love a dynamic campaign setting like Finnish has. This comment is going to annoy people but if you have seen a few videos, you know that my heart really is more into IL-2 but I do like sims so it's hard not to play DCS occasionally.
@@Enigma89 I play IL2 almost exclusively online. However I usually only play on the Berloga server since it gets you into the action right away. I have only played DCS off line. I do like the Dora in DCS more than the one in IL2 and I think it's more accurate.
That's awesome, the 19 is one of my favorite fighters, it has that look of clear evolution of the mig-15, and it's nice to know it performs really well on turns. Great flying there as well man, it was really satisfying see you outmaneuver and win against those F-5s.
I think I may get the Mig-15 yet. I have been really strapped for time but it seems very interesting. Thanks for commenting Adolfo, feel free to check out my other videos, I mostly focus on IL-2 but do a decent amount in DCS.
I'm really tempted to take this thing online but, like you said, DCS spotting issues. Those are keeping me away from much gameplay, particularly in VR.

@@Enigma89 Ugh...don't even get me started on that. I was more than a little pissed off when ED announced their intention to shelve their work on the Phantom indefinitely in favor of the Viper and Hornet. All we have now is the uncertain hope that a third party will pick it up...maybe.
@@Void304 ED recently teased that they have news on the F4 but were waiting for a good time to reveal it. I’m sure it’s in the works, who knows how long they’ve been working on it. But, between the F4, F8, MiG-17, MiG-23,A-7 … I think in about 2 years we’ll have a fantastic stable of aircraft to play with. Everything except the F4 has been officially announced.

Good tip for digfighting with the farmer, have the gun switches on your hotas to disable and enable each one, 30mm is beefy enough where one gun shooting is more than enough for small fighters, youll just have to compensate slightly on the fly since they are slight off center in the wing roots
Always nice to see some videos from the "other side", the old russian planes are very unique and a joy to fly. So thanks for that short view into flying the 19. Hope to see some more cold war fighters in the (near?) future. Oh, and an update for the AI, especially important for single-player gamers. Thats something IL2 does WAY better, but the feeling of flying an airplane is the best im DCS in my opinion.
This game sorely needs the F-4. I have heard the AI in DCS is really wonky but I don't have much experience in it. I really only fly MP but seems odd to me that the AI would be so bad if so many players play SP.
@@Enigma89 The AI is "flying" with flight model in easy-mode, not in sim mode. So AI has other physical rules and dogfights feel a bit off. They can "look" through clouds also. BVR is okay, because the systems are managed quite good by the AI and mud moving is lots of fun in SP. But WW2 Dogfights vs AI are really bad - at least in my opinion. And yes - F-4 is a must, but I am optimistic for the future :-)
people with $4000 setups who think their good because they kill F5s flying a 3d pro with 24 fps. LMAO dcs never changes. Meanwhile, they can't even maintain runway centerline on takeoff

They have fixed enough IMO and they seem to fix two bugs this next patch. The Mig19 is very fun to fly. If you have questions on it just feel free to ask me. I do not really buy unfinished modules (I am holding on Hind and Apache) and I am not paid by the module developers so my opinion is very much not bias.
@Enigma two things. First this video is now a year old. Alpenwolf's Cold War server is no more, but you have your own now. is the Farmer still your favorite redfor plane? I've owned it for years but have just started learning it, and am wondering if I should persist or move on to the Mig-21. Second, at 4:14 I see the red and white stick on the nose that indicates your nose gear is down! Was it? Is this a consequence of pulling G's?
Yes it is still my favourite. It's a completely unique plane in DCS. It is still viable to learn it is just harder to fly it on the Syria scenario. I am not sure what that white stick is. I don't notice it so it is probably not important.
@@Enigma89 The little red and white stick protruding from the cowl in front of the canopy on the left side is an indication that the nose gear is down. It's the same on the MiG-15. There are similar sticks on each wing for the main gear. They are supposed to be fully retracted into the fuselage if the gear is fully retracted. You do have to look for these. They are not obvious. The one on the nose is a bit hard to see.
Actually the count of elements in the cockpit look slow,...compared to the MIG-21. I like that....like i do on the Viggen. Probably the 19 is my next buy.
So of all the Migs in the Mig family, the Mig-19 and J-6's are the only ones not able to fly anymore am i correct ? Unless theres an attempt to get a Mig-19 into flying condition in the real world.
I am not sure. I am (slowly) reading a book about the Vietnamese Mig pilots and so far in the book it has been nothing but rockets (lol) and cannons so far. Rossmum would know most likely.
I heard you mention difficult with spotting in DCS. Could you elaborate a bit on that? Is spotting easier in IL2? I have a great deal of difficulty with this in DCS.
I don't have as much experience in DCS as I do in IL-2, so someone with more knowledge of the engine will have to explain. If you haven't been able to tell but my IL-2 videos really are more guides because I understand WWII planes better while my DCS videos are less guide focused and more thought starters because I am coming at this game from a WWII angle. My take on it is that it's really easy to see a DCS black pixel dot from distance but as you get close and that pixel turns into an actual airplane and then the camo renders, it just vanishes especially into ground clutter. In terms of how much space they take up on your screen, the planes in DCS feel tiny compared to IL-2. Now when you add the speed and distance of things in DCS it just becomes really hard to track stuff. It's just much easier to see contacts at distance and track them in IL-2. Now is it easy to track contacts in IL-2? No, it's still a pain but it is easier than DCS.

Your Mig-19P is nonsence his 23/30 cannons was removed if you use 2 AA-2 or 4 AA-1 missiles! Mig-19PT with radar tested new AA-2 Atoll Sidewinder copy missiles. With this armament was better than initial version of Mig-21F without onboard cannon. Armament was 2 AA-2 Atoll and 2 V-5 57mm + 2 PTB540 tanks💪. This Migs had same problem as some version of F-4 Phantom. No onboard cannons! Some Bulgarian Mig-19P in 1969 was modified like this test soviet planes to carry 2 Atoll missiles.

Wing fences were there to prevent the airflow from defecting to the wingtips.
Good video. I love this plane (even though I'm terrible at this game). I wish we had historical opponents to fight (as AI at least).

Mig 19 is one of my favorites coming from warbirds on DCS and IL2

Spotting in VR is pretty horrendous... maybe more horrendous depending on your settings.. but the experience is worth every loss. Every. Single. One.

I am not 100% sure but I do not think so. I never ran into any overheating issues and def ran afterburner for quite a while.
