Grew up playing this game, absolutely loved every second of it until 2 major shoulder injuries. There's a great video on CZcams about the Code in hockey that's a great watch. Explains the unspoken rules of fighting in hockey.
Nice! 💖
There is a video where the goalies throat gets cut by another players skate. Its a miracle that he lived because he lost a lot of blood.
😮
Clint Malarchuk. Not only did he live, he was back playing again a couple weeks later.
@@MaddyReactions Richard Zednick happened to be around a player who was hit down, and while his feet flew up, caught Zednick on his throat, and he also lost a lot of blood, but he managed to live.
It wasn't a miracle. It was pure luck that his team's athletic trainer, Jim Pizzutelli was former US Army combat medic who had served in the Vietnam War. He gripped Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the vein until Drs could stabilize Malarchuk.
The story behind it is that the doc on the bench was a WW2 vet and he saved his live
The circles are for the face off which happens after play is stopped for whatever reason. You are allowed to hit the player with the puck or right after he passes it. You can’t just hit whomever you want. The penalty box is where the player will sit for two minutes or five minutes depending on the penalty.
Oooh 👏 thanks for the explanation 🤗
Hi Maddy 😊 I love hockey 🏒
You’re watching (mostly) legal “checks” in hockey.
Generally, any player with the puck can be checked by defenders.
As long as the player uses his body from hips to shoulders and doesn’t leave the ice when he hits? It’s legal.
Checks also can’t come from behind, or angled from behind
That is crazy!!!
The circles are around face-off spots. When a faceoff is happening only one player per team can be in the circle.
Penalties are easy:
2 minutes minors are for lesser infractions which include, but not an exhaustive list: slashing, cross checking, tripping, hooking, boarding, delay of game (defender puts puck directly out of play in defensive zone), roughing, obstruction, interference, unsportsmanlike conduct
5 minute majors (don't end on the opposition scoring) include: butt ending, checking from behind, fighting, spearing, intent to injure
Misconduct penalties are just major penalties that are on the severe end of things. The offending player sits in the box for 10 minutes for the misconduct (may also get a major and possibly a minor on top of the misconduct penalty.
I will admit that I have been in games where more of our team was in the box than on the bench.
Some basic guidelines for hitting:
-No elbows or knees (most, if not all legal bodychecks are done with the shoulder)
-No hits to the head
-No hits from behind (especially into the boards, that’s a boarding penalty)
-Skates must stay planted on the ice when you hit someone
-You can only hit a guy if he has the puck or just touched it
There are more, but those are some of the basics
Canadian here played hockey all my life love it! Only restrictions on hitting is no going for the head, can't use elbow or stick to hit and you cant charge at a player from a long distance. As for breaking glass doesnt happen often and usually is just a stoppage of play till fixed. Penalties are signaled by ref raising his arm theres no warnings either 2 min or 5 min depends on offense
Wow almost seems like mix of martial arts 🥋
My fav comment during the reaction was “your ankles would be so sore”😂
LOL it’s trueeeee!!! 😂
As hockey fan I love those reactions 😀
Great 🤗
Great reaction, Mandy! There’s a saying. Football is a contact sport where as hockey is a collision sport! No running out of bounds in hockey, lol! Also, many of these hits result in a player(s) from the hit players’s team going after the hitter and usually resulting in a fight(s). Even if the hit was legal, lol!
"Dangerous for the audience," I can tell you that the fans in Boston loved that hit and also loved that they got glass in their $15 beers
😆
You can hit any way you want except for: hits it the head(a relatively new rule), hits from behind, knee on knee hits, cross checking, or hitting a player more than 3 seconds after they pass the puck. You can only hit people who have the puck. Also, as someone who started playing hockey at 4, its not actually all that difficult to skate, once you learn how. I feel just as comfortable skating as i do walking if im honest.
Hockey is the coolest game on Earth! Most of the time, guys that get these hits put on them get right back up. It is not like baseball where they are out for a month with a hangnail. The hits are all legal and part of the flow of the game UNLESS they hit an opponent up against the boards. If it deemed by the ref as attempt to injure, the offending players are kicked from the game.
Yesss
you are so sweet bambi. I think you need to see a real game with someone who knows hockey. Is a very thrilling game to watch and play. From Canada, and the sport is in our blood.
I love watching almost any sport but hockey is still my favourite. Amusing reaction Maddy, will catch you in the next one.
Very cool! 💖
If you're willing to learn hockey we'd love to follow the journey

No cards!! No time out , it’s called a penalty box! Some of those hits were indeed illegal, some are outstanding hit. They condition ALL year. And they are playing the best game in the world!
So epic!!
So although it probably doesn't look like it in the video. There's lots of rules when it comes to what a clean hit is.
2 minute penalties get assessed for:
Charging before a hit - taking 3 or 4 big strides to make the hit.
Boarding - dangerously hitting, tripping or shoving a player into the boards, usually the backboards and from the back.
First contact of the hit can't be the head.
Your feet can't leave the ground before the hit is delivered.
You can't hit players unless the have the Puck or literally just passed it.
You can't hit for the knees or lower.
Those are just some of the common rules regarding hits
These guys have been on the ice in season for 2 hours a day since they were 4... so no... their ankles aren't sore. They barely ties their skates up.
Oh wow!
In hockey, direct body contact is allowed - but there are rules. You can't target someone's head as the main point of contact... you can't hit someone from behind and drive them face-first into the boards (aka boarding)... you can't take more than three strides on your way to hit someone (aka charging)... you can't go low and take out someone's legs (aka clipping)... you can't kick someone's skates out from under them (aka slew-footing)... also, no elbowing or kneeing... and no using your stick as a weapon (aka slashing, cross-checking, or spearing)... everything else is pretty much fair-play. (Still, many of the hits in this compilation were illegal and likely resulted in penalties or suspensions).
Ohh
The Stevens hits were legal at the time btw NHL didn't care about head hunting at that time in the 90s.
Hockey is not for the faint of heart 😅
Hockey players really do not wear a lot of padding. Some shoulder pads. Elbow pads. The pants have some pads. The shin and knee guards. I have a full set and people are always surprised at how much less they are than say football pads. Great watching with you.
I would highly recommend going to see a game with someone that knows hockey. It's really a great experience.
Edit: recommendation: EZ Mil - Up Down Step & Walk. A Filipino artist that just signed with Eminem and Dr Dre.
Cool!
Love hockey, thanks for doing this. PS hockey and soccer should not be in the same sentence btw. Love ur channel
the hits to wall are legal as long as the player is not driven in to the lower boards which is a penalty, When there is a penalty there will be a team shot handed (less Players) they can not be replaced.
As a junior hockey player, no. Breaking by the glass on a hit is not a penalty. It’s called a penalty box, the circles and dots are so the officials know where to drop the puck after stoppages, and penalties are rarely more than 2 minutes. And about 70% of these hits are clean. No call,
Cool that you react to hockey. Thank you
❤️💖❤️
The glass is made so that it shatters into small pieces rather than big shards of glass like it use to be before.
Spectators won’t get hurt unless a piece gets them in the eye which has never happened before and is highly unlikely.
It’s very rare for the glass to break!
Yesssss!!!!
My absolute favorite sport!
Nice 😊
@@MaddyReactions ❤️
9:17 that’s called being on the trolley tracks! Most of these hits are outlawed now because of head injuries.
You can only hit the guy that have the puck or had it a brief moment ago but you can't just hit whoever you want and there's many rules that i won't explain to help avoid concussions but in the end, best advice, keep your head up. Hits on the head are punishable but battles are allowed. That's a paradox hockey fans usually like.
breakin stuff!;) cross checking (hitting with both hands on the stick),roughing or fighting is a penalty and can be major penalty as opposed to a minor penalty, hitting is legal to disposses the puck from a player but you cant just hit at random because thats also considered interference or charging..also can be a major penalty assesed....game misconducts /unsportsmanlike penalties or multi game suspensions can happen.and certainly hitting someone with the stick(slashing, high sticking or spearing) also can be minor or major penalties.2 minute penalties..4 minute penalties..5 minute penalties..10 minute misconduct...game misconduct or multi game suspension and fines$$$ the rest of the rules are similar to soccer with offsides and tripping goalie interference...
Also.. 2 things..
1, In this video, many of the hits are perfectly legal... some are not.. Video gives no context so a person who doesn't know the game can't tell the difference.
2, If you're afraid of ice skates and the potential injuries.. DO NOT let anyone trick you into watching a video with a Goalie named Clint Malarchuk .. He took a skate to the throat, severed his jugular. Was saved by a quick thinking team doctor (not HIS team's doctor.. the other team's doctor ran out to help too) and returned to the ice a few weeks later... there is video of the incident.. it's SCARY! It was so bad, the TV announcer was telling the cameramen to turn the cameras away!!
Breaking glass is fine, but breaking a heart is just an affense😅🤣🤣🤣👌👍
🤣

would you say that maybe you are 'uncoordinated' perhaps? being in Ireland i only got into watching the NHL back in '05 but i LOVE it and watch it every night for this kind of stuff.
there is an urban legend that ice-hockey was born on Lake Ontario during the winter when drunken Irishmen went out onto the lake to play hurling (the oldest grass game in the world). however, as far as i've been able to find out - it is just that... an urban legend, it doesn't appear to be fact. still, you should check out hurling sometime... BEST sport on the planet 😎🤘☘

Nice!
I found her commentary interesting, insightful and perceptive because she is beautiful.
Haha thanks
It’s like 10 pounds of gear that doesn’t do much coming from 28 years of hockey
Oh wow!
Yes, more Hocky reactions. Great stuff. fun times.
Hockey is a awesome sport 🩷
yes, about the guy who broke the glass--there is another video for that: broken glass moments, or something. Have a nice day.
Well I have gone to the fights. And seen a Hockey game break out.
Dang!
In hockey they allow you to fight until somebody falls over
It's more like four or five pounds of protective gear in a game were players can skate and hit at high speed.
many of the hits were legal, but are not now. Being without the puck and getting hit may normally result in a penalty. Aimed Hits to the head are 100% forbidden.
All of the hits you saw in this video were legal at the time they were filmed. The NHL and most other hockey leagues have changed the rules to increase player safety, particularly as it pertains to deliberate hits to the head, neck and knees. But for the most part, the game is the same as it has always been.
No cards but there is fighting and a penalty box! 4:50
💜
This is what I tell people getting into hockey watch movie slap shot in first five minutes one of the players tells the audience and you watching the interview how players get into the penalty box
Yea I'm crazy 😂 I will say, some of these were definitely not legal. Basically you can only hit someone that has possession of the puck. Plus, you can't target the head or jump off the ice into the guy before making contact. These are all extreme cases though. There's always good hitting, but hits this big, don't happen every game. And these guys are playing 82 game seasons, plus playoffs which ramps up even more lol.
Ooooohhh lol
No head hits is a new rule to avoid concussions. In the past, it was fine. As was the can opener (sticking the stick between a players leg, and shoving him down), along with a submarine hit ( going down low and hitting the guy with your butt around his hip level or lower, and he goes flying over you).
Check through the glass whistle blows play stops replace glass and go back to playing.
The big guys that fight are goons. They’re allowed to fight as long as the opponent agrees and they both drop the gloves.
There's been times when people break there legs the play keeps going
Body contact is allowed, as long as there isn’t hand or stick involved
It’s part of the sport. Clear the ice of opposition
notice your channel by NF and then look for NHL reactions and see you again
Idk, I’d guess that checking is allowed on the player with the puck, and imagine there are ways of checking that aren’t allowed. But that’s just a guess.
Such an intense sport!
Average NHL player skates around 18-20mph some players can get close to 30mph and the game is getting faster. Average weight is around 185 pounds some guys weigh over 230.
Not all these clips in this video are from the NHL tho
Yeah most of these hits you’d get kicked out of the game in todays hockey. Pretty much you can hit a guy as long as it’s not the head or in the back.
Oh dang!
boarding -no no in hockey...Boarding is when a check violently throws a defenseless player into the boards
best game ever... makes all the other sports look weak lol
Check out Connor McDavid highlights, he’s the undisputed best Hockey player on the planet right now
*Rugby - Hits Till I Collapse* will make these Players look like they are playing Patty Cake. I will let you decide ……
Oooh
Rugby players aren't going 20-30kph when getting smoked, sorry but hockey > rugby.
Maybe if rugby players were running as fast as Usaine Bolt because that’s how fast nhl players can skate, the speed of these hits is what makes them by far the hardest in all of sports
Why do we play? Cos it's fun, regardless of how much we get hit we always know we'll dish it back out
The equipment isn't that heavy and there are a lot of places with little to no protection.
The camera is so far away. These hits are devastating, from closer up. This video doesn't show the speed at all.
You're looking FINE! That's the biggest Hit
Hiii
react to pavel datsyuk highlights!
I played hockey all my life ( not pro ) the thing that most people doesn't get is they can reach to high speed and be smacked from someone going the opposite way... it's not soccer believe me
Oh wow!!
hello 😊😊😊😊
Hello 😊
If you like this, then have a look at some hard Rugby hits. No helmets or padding or sticks in Rugby. I love watching the shock on American Football fans' faces when they see Rugby for the first time and realise how protected their guys are with crash helmets and shoulder pads. Would love to see some American Football players have a go at Rugby but none have volunteered yet. Top 50 biggest hits in Rugby - czcams.com/video/MfyplR-SJ6Y/video.html .
Ooohhh! Awesome
@@MaddyReactions 😂👍
They didn’t used to wear helmets.
Oh wow! Sounds dangerous
You are breathtakingly gorgeous.
Thank you ☺️
You are beautiful.E I don't care.If you wish to,you'll pick it up.
Thanks! 🤗
wow throwing insults at hockey . In NO way is hockey like soccer, there are a few videos on here Hockey VS soccer . there is no falling down crying in hockey if fact it is a penalty if the ref thinks you are trying to draw a penalty by flopping
Lol comparing to soccer is an insult? 😯
Soccer players are wimps compared to hockey players. There was a player whose heart stopped when sitting on the bench. After he was resuscitated the first thing he did was ask when he could get back in the game. Look at pictures from some of the old goalies faces from before they were required to wear face masks. Terry Sawchuck looks like a psychco with scars everywhere.
you're gorgeous
Thank you ☺️
