2-days ago… a damn shame. Got to see them live a few years ago, when they headlined one of the nights at our major summer art festival in Pittsburgh. Pat had put on a lot of weight, so he must have been battling some heath issues. Could still rock out like nobody's business!! He'll live on through his fantastic music, and hopefully the band will find a way to keep performing. RIP Mr. DiNizio.
just saw this--I'm heartbroken. I heard him on a radio interview years ago, such a dignified polite musician. The interviewer would ask what should we play, deferring to Pat and he'd answer quietly, We'll I'd love to hear and he named one of his tracks. Who hears someone talk about their own music, with love like that? Of course, very modest about it and the music, lyrics deep soulful. I talked to him a few times , but I never did send him anything , in retrospect , I wish I did.. RIP Pat.

This song just popped into my head out of nowhere today. 2/16/23
I can never get enough of this band, especially this song.
John Belushi on lead guitar and Cheap Tricks Bun E. Carlos on drums!
....or Bill Hicks on Guitar
Quite possibly the best rock band to ever come out of New Jersey! The Smithereens were incredible musicians and songwriters extraordinaire! Go see them on tour (although without the great Pat DiNizio... RIP)!
Does a group called 'The E Strret Band" come to mind?
Most underappreciated band ever This song rocked as hard or harder than anything in its era
Smithereens rock , one of my favorite 80 's tracks. !!!
That song will still put you on the hunt
Dear Brothers and Sisters Please Honor Another Fallen musical Hero Gone Way to Soon, By Taking time to >Focus On Pat s Life >His Music, His Love For Family, Friends and Fans. We All Die, But People Like Pat and The Awesome Music that he and The Smithereens Made Help Us All Feel Good till we do. Peace
Very underrated band in my opinion. RIP Pat.
Rock and roll in its purest form!! These guys kicked ass!
Man, I love this band so much. I had their greatest hits and listened to it constantly on repeat. To me, this group was vastly underrated in a time when there was very overrated music. RIP to Pat.
Hear hear I send the musical love from Vancouver..my thoughts exactly.
RIP Pat! This sucks. Love Smithereens. 62 is too young.
Good of to recognize
Still listening in 2021. The Smithereens rock!!!
One of the great American rock bands.
Cada vez que escucho estas canciones de nuevo, recuerdo que existe la musica de verdad, la hecha con las manos y el corazon. Que no se pierda, sigamos recordandola...
RIP, Pat, you all Rock,
God has a hell of a band up there!!!
If The Beatles got together with AC/DC their offspring would be The Smithereens. Love you, Pat. I'm gonna miss you. RIP
Flyby Knight I already dig their stuff, but your description just makes me long for another band like The Smithereens!!! I’m 26 years old and a rock ‘n’ roll geek!!!
The Marshall stacks gave it away
My man was lame.
@@kylehegedus5498 yes boo

This is one of those songs that the more I listen, the more I want to listen. That is, I can't get sick of it. Such a great rock song.
Pat's voice makes me feel cool.
RIP brother. Glad I had a chance to meet you backstage once.
RIP Pat!
RIP Mr. DiNizio.
They were so underrated. Pat knew how to cater to us rock-n-rollers in those days of shitty hair bands.
I find it just as sad as David Bowie & Tom Petty. No bullshit.
Also: Susan Cowsill on guest vocals!
RIP
just saw this--I'm heartbroken. I lie in bed/and think of her/Sometimes I even weep/And I dream of her/ behind the wall of sleep. RIP BEAUTIFUL POET
Always loved the Smithereens!!! Great band!
Pat DiNizio rules. Another banger from the author of the soundtrack to my adolescence. Thanks, Pat and guys.
Great song! Discovered them 15 years too late but catching up!
RIP Pat. You wrote a mean verse and a meaner chorus. Respectfully yours. SOS
Wow. Do you still eat SAND??
Bob Stamm of High Ridge Missouri wrote this song in 1978. He had it on cassette, I was in A Daytona FL club in 1984& gave it to the drummer who was saying they were working on a band project called The Smithereins.True story. Next year the song is on the radio KSHE 95 STL MO
Not the next year but soon after 89 I think
Normal dudes, obviously having a great time at their own expense, making outstanding music. Love the Smithereens.
this song is why i love rock and roll....47 years old, heard some great sh*t', but this is just pure, kick ass rock and roll
I saw them play two years ago and he was still rocking a great front man with an awesome voice , he will be sadly missed.
Have you ever had a song that you forgot how much you dug until, years later, you randomly hear that song again in a bar and all the lyrics, pauses, and every nuance comes back to you without missing a beat?
Every friggin day, fo sure!
1000 times YES
The whole album
Is a masterpiece.
Never, ever, gets old. And they still put on a top-notch live show.
This is the hero who broke through walls, doors, and gates and TIME to reach the mother of his only son.
I saw these guys at a Long Island club back when this came out.. loudest show I ever went to...my ears are still ringing. 😁🤘. I got to chat with Pat too , back around 2000 , he had a website called “Psycholaberations”. The idea was , you’d send him some lyrics , and for 300 bucks , he’d write and record you a song and send it back on a CD. I talked to him a few times , but I never did send him anything , in retrospect , I wish I did.. RIP Pat.
5 long years since we lost you Pat. RIP.
This is the first time I'm hearing this song & now I can't get away from it. I love it.
YEAH! Love stories like this!
Please search out their back catalogue. You won't be disappointed!
The 229 people who gave this a thumbs down should be blown to Smithereens!
I do agree
Ruben Delgadillo ..I agree 100% !!
No they should have to blow the Smithereens.
LOL.
It's not rocket science it's rock n roll...229 wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them on the .....
I guess I’m old old (57) but this is rock and roll. Imisss driving rock like this.
These cats came to UMaine in the early 90's and played in "The Pit", Maine's basketball arena. When they soundchecked this tune I could hear it on the front steps of Fogler Library, all the way across The Mall- had to have been 400 yards. Great band from a better, vanished time.
