  • The 12th-century "Song of Roland" centerpieces the medieval period's ideal of Christian knightly valor. Its exciting description of the battle between Charlemagne's Frankish army and the Saracens in which the hero Roland is slain is traditionally seen as a justification of war. But embedded in the "Song" are several clues that suggest it just might be a disguised denunciation of Christian participation in warfare.

In Italy 1960... dad use to take us to these shows done with marionette, and it was about Orlando and Rinaldo, and the shows were spectacular, thinking back it was all the father's who got all the joy, for when the bad guy's "the Saracens" showed up the stage was pelted with tomatoes, it was a bloodbath, crazy stuff, but very popular lol.
