I know opinions matter, but as an english style rider, the whips are used as encouragement and not intended as abuse unless people are stupid enough to do so.

As a former jockey I can say this type of horse racing would sit side by side with the Kentucky Derby if it could get the publicity it so deserves.
Whips should be not allowed. Real horsemen do not need and do not want to beat the horse.
