Kent Outdoors bought Kona to expand beyond their water sports focus. They announced that they were looking to sell Kona at the same time as they announced that they received a $100 million investment from a capital fund, which means that selling Kona was a condition of the investment terms, because Kent Outdoors never knew what to do with a bicycle company and realized it in the face of that large investment into their brand.
@@thefreebikes4kidschannel279 yeah sadly it's happening as so many manufacturers thought the boom in bikes after covid was going to be normal sales, which is ridiculous, so they went crazy in building bikes and throwing money around. Now all that's backfired
Noooo, Kona's were a serious brand and loved here in the Pacific North West. The Kona team XC trained in Vancouver, and the North Shore in North Van, is where the bikes went through testing. The North Shore is pretty gnarly, even back in the day.

The early bikes were really influenced by Brodie bikes with their sloping top tubes. Yeah, Kona's were cool.
Brodie bikes were awesome and yes you could definitely see the influence.
noooooooooooooooooo!!! KONA was my favorite brand !! COMON wtf!
My mate who's the head designer for Trek was made redundant this morning, so yeah bye bye Kona 😭
The whole industry seems to be cutting back hugely.

I always thought Kona was a cheap brand .. like Halfords.
They were sold through Halfords in the UK for a while.....but a proper brand. Iconic in the 90's
