thank you
Thank you, Dan and Chang!
I really like the walkability of Sibu and it's extremely affordable.
This would be a close second to some of the Maylasian beach areas in your previous videos.
The majority of the people in Sarawak are Christians. Thereโs also no state religion for this state. English is also one of the official languages used in government there, the other being bahasa Malaysia. The indigenous peoples and the Chinese drink alcohol for many social occasions, so alcohol sale is not restricted at all, unlike the peninsula part of Malaysia.
All true. Alcohol is available in all of Peninsula Malaysia from my experience. Just not in Halal restaurants.
Oh my God, Dan, I am loving all the vegetarian restaurants you are showing in Malaysia!!! So cool. I am vegetarian.
I spent some time in Sarawak and like the food also but keep in mind all these restaurants use the cheap seed oil that destroys health
Sibu is my beloved home town where I was born. It is a small town by the side of the longest river in Malaysia the Rejang river. which flow from the mountain range in the middle of Borneo Island right into the South China Sea. It is a quite place with low cost of living, quiet and friendly people around. Hope you enjoy the place.
Love this report on Sibu Sarawak Dan! Great job. I love watching Qiang enjoy her food. I am so glad her appetite is on your tab Dan NOT mine!๐๐คฃ
Love your videos! I work overnights on weekends you guys are so comforting to watch. I will make a trip out there
Just discovered you guys, Dan and Chang.
Liked and subscribed!!
Thank you!
For a world traveler like me, the price looks good. Good video.
a perfect cultural city of sarawak
Welcome to my birthplace Sibu guys. Enjoy the tour.
Wow more and more foreigner live in Sarawak ;good progress !!
Thanks Dear Dan! Loved Sibu city,
Beautiful place! Happy to see the Christian church there.๐
Apparently there is a Christian majority in Sarawak.
This would be living in a pretty remote place. It is attractive to people who want to explore famous Borneo mountain jungles and wildlife. I see RT flights to KL for only $100, so I would plan on doing that every couple months for a refresh of civilization.
$100 from where?
@@formica. fly from Singapore Get 3 more months
Seeing those chickens like that makes me want to be a vegetarian. Someday Iโll get the courage to make that commitment
Vegetarian life is not hard
my daughter is vegan
and that's really challenging
mostly expensive
veges have feelings too
Looks like a Chinese town. I quickly checked rentals. Prices are rarely displayed and when they are, much higher than elsewhere in Malaysia.
Where are you searching? We didn't notice that.
I love listening to the red bone song
I was digging the Bee Gees in the background music man
Cars are cheap there also Great place to go for 2 or 3 months Fly to Singapore 2 or 3 more months in Mallaca. 3 month visas are free Then 3 months Thailand 3 months Phillipines.
That is a great way to go. I call it slow travel.
@@VagabondAwake Doing this since 2004. Plane tickets dont cost much more than long term visas.
"Get to know your food" ๐คฃ
I actually bought a live chicken once for one of the guys traveling with us. He wasn't feeling good so he stayed back. Upon our return I gave him a plastic bag and I told him "you must be hungry so I got you chicken." You should've seen the look on his face when he opened the bag.๐คฃ problem now was what to do with a live chicken? Gave it to a local that was very appreciative.
Nice info. Why u guys don't buy a house in outskirts of city? ฤฐs it expensive. How much old home with 2 or 3 rooms will Cost u. Please give details if possible
THX. GUY'S GLAD YOUR DOING WELL, MANY BLESSINGS.
I actually like the idea with the chickens. How much chicken gets thrown away because it is butchered and goes bad?
I am sure it is a lot!
Definitely an interesting place and affordable โฆ but other than the pagoda, not very picturesque. Maybe the countryside is better???
Interesting. If I remember correctly you had a video that talked about your average cost of slow traveling.
If you don't mind.. ๐ค How does your slow traveling monthly expenses compare to living somewhere 6 months or longer?
I'll try to do another one soon. :-)
I love how you are showing those vegan restaurants and made me sad to see those chickens wrapping in a paper con.๐ฅ
I had never seen that before. I have been vegan or vegetarian since 1983.
Beautiful city
not really...looks filthy
Might head over there and see about visa runs.
Just found your channel
Small town that more my speed. LOL spent a year in Thailand mid 70's .
Lol, those chickens caught me off guard.
I know. Kind of weird seeing something alive that can move at all. Humans are an odd bunch.
How is it possible that we live in a world where there are humans who can't at least understand the most basic level of respect for animals. And if we can't depend on the individual, we should at least depend on a government to control outrageously inexcusable processes like strapped and stacked chickens like they are vegetables.
Yes, it was sad for me too.
I have seen worse.
@@heythave Unthinkable.
@@all4fitz Yep, about fifteen of them tied together and left in the sun with no water and then they were transported up side down in the back of a motorcycle for sale.
Dan, do you have a video on Kuala Lumpur? I wonder about the standard of living in KL compared to Cebu.
Tom Sorrell. we have several videso on CZcams for Kuala Lumpur. Just pick the Malaysia playlist and scroll down the list until you see all of the Kuala Lumpur videos.
czcams.com/users/VagabondAwakeplaylists
Thanks for asking!
Dan
How much cost dozen of eggs in Malaysia ...? in Tampa Bay, Florida dozen of medium eggs cost $8 usd ๐ ๐ค๐คช
Hardest working man on vacation :)
noticed the water taxi was a certain price for foreigners versus locals
do you feel like you guys get special pricing based on your girlfriend being local or Asian in other Southeast Asian countries countries
When Qiang is in Malaysia she gets local prices mostly. Outside of Malaysia she is treated as a foreigner just like me. I get senior prices in many p[arts of Asia much earlier than I would in Western Countries. Often 50 or 55 instead of 65.
Yes seeing the live chickens like that is horrific and totally inhumane
Thanks for sharing. You tend to see live animals in markets more once you get outside the "western" world.
Looks and sounds great but not much different from Philippines, e.g. Siquijor island (my preference) and they speak English and are arguably more friendly .....
Sounds like you found your spot. :-)
@@VagabondAwake
Philippines is a super-easy place to find your "spot" imo with 7500+ islands to choose from, beautiful people, low and adjustable cost of living.... ++
Interesting
The chickens that were wrapped in paper were alive? What kept the chickens from wiggling their way out of the paper? I'm sure the market would offer to kill and clean out the guts out of the chickens to make ready to cook?
Yes, they were alive. I am not sure about who would prepare the chickens for you. I didn't ask. You wouldn't have to go far though.
who has $150,000 to put in a deposit. Most retirees don't have $10,000 a month
Sarawak does not require $10k per month. Read the full report. First link below the video.
Health insurance and medication is missing from your list, also things like household cleaning products, clothing, miscellaneous.
Thank you for your constructive criticism Rob. That is how we get better. And thanks for commenting. What you pay for insurance will be based upon your age and preexisting conditions. But I do take your comment to heart. I will probably do a video on how to search and find health insurance in the future so people can get actual estimates. Best, Dan
Itโs for two of you. Wow
enough to live a quite life in Sibu with USD 760 monthly
Hey @tiongjames5013, thanks for the great question. Here is my report on the 4 kinds of people that retire internationally and the estimated levels of cash each type needs. These expenses in this report are for a stationary life here I explain the other three types in this report and their estimated cash needs.
vagabondbuddha.com/why-philippines-living-costs-range-from-800-to-5000-usd-per-month/
Thanks again for the great question,
Dan
What about long term visa?
Good question. As I thought the income criteria to retire in Malaysia what much higher than Thailand.
Hello Charles Scinta, All of our videos have a webpage that has the information discussed in that video so you don't have to take notes.
That link has visa information such as income requirements.
The link to that web page for this video is the first link in the description below this video.
In case you don't know how to find the link, here is a CZcams video teaching how:

Bless your hearts โฅ๏ธ. You both seem very thin and pale. I hope you can find information on the importance of real protein.
Buzz off Scott. They are much healthier than me sitting on my ass eating Doritos in Ohio
Bless your heart too. Literally. :-) www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324423904578523190441042514
Scott, Dan sure did show you with his 2013 WSJ article. Looks like you will die soonโฆbless your meat eating heartโฆ๐๐๐๐๐
And the report is 2019 instead of 2013 so we know itโs got to be true
The problum is the visa. How much an how long to stay.
Coming soon.
Which hotel did you stay in?

@@VagabondAwake Yes, I just found that. It was Texas Inn.
Did any of the Sarawak state appeal to you for a long term stay? And what is your opinion of Kuching versus other Sarawak states?
Tsing tao!!
Sibu needs pressure washers.
lol.
Too many Crocs!!haha
Is one too many? :-)
Yes have to be careful around any part of Sarawak river lots of cases where people are killed by crocodiles no jokes .
A crocodile snatched an old woman walking her dog by a pond in Florida. She died.
Plants are not your friends ๐คก
I know. I eat them. :-) lol.
Lectins. Need B12 vitamin supplement.
I'm truly ipressed with the I Love Jesus in the windows. I gues Christianity is taking root and spreading?
Actually, Christianity spread here before many other religions according to the local Christians. That was a result of the British colony that was in this area. :-) The religions live harmoniously here so people worship freely.
hey dan are you planning to visit and explore Turkiye? as tourism its awesome place to visit and dollar goes long way too (antalya temperature is similar to north vietnam)
I love Antalya. Last there in 2008? We will go back as soon as Ukraine ware settles down. Many places to see in that aea of the world. :-)
Do u know when fresh durian will be available at the market?
So sorry, I do not know.
I was in Kuala Lumpur and Penang last month (January 2024), and there were fresh musang king durian in both places.
..i have to say this, on behalf of the truth !!
What?
