- Episode 2 and 3 out now! • Mustang Drift Car gets...
I bought a new drift car. And I spent $10,000 on parts to build it. This is a 2006 Ford Mustang GT, and although these things are known for fishtailing into crowds leaving car meets, I am going to build this to do fast, controlled slides. I hope you enjoy the build, I am super stoked to test this thing on the track

@@FallenL1ght_ man of Good taste😎 what are your plans with it?
K&N intake, caliper covers, Hurst shifter
This was already a turnkey drift car
@@salvagedmetal few more stickers and it'll be fully built
Possibly unpopular opinion but caliper covers looks soooo bad. Not jist on a mustang but on any car. It looks out of place. I paid 100 bucks for caliper paint and wire brushes and painted my calipers and it looks wayy better and it was cheaper.
@@jacobpurvis1482 absolutely agreed, they are the first things that went in the trash lol

@@naokithewicker3980 those are such great looking cars! What are your plans with it?
@@LooseFab well unfortunately I need to rebuild the motor. Bought it and she had a hard life. Once it is running again I’ll probably start doing paint repair.
@@naokithewicker3980 solid plan! You just doing a basic refresh or doing anything spicy to the motor while you're in there?
@@LooseFab motor comes with a spicy tune and a higher rpm limit.
I bought one a month ago, I’ve slid it a few times on “accident” already! Super fun cars. I used to have a Lexus IS250, it was a fun car but it had no potential and it was automatic with an open differential. The 3v feels very powerful to me coming from that Lexus, and the manual gives me so much more control than I had over the Lexus. I’ve got an exhaust on the Mustang already and tint. Stoked to get it to the point I want it to be, considering making a few videos on it as well.
That's awesome man, glad to hear you're loving it so far! I know what you mean, I came from an ae86 so this thing feels crazy powerful compared to that! They're super fun. I have some videos out now taking this one to the track if you're interested, it's an animal. What are the plans for yours?
@@LooseFab I’ve watched your videos in order since you picked up the car. I’m always trying to find new content on these cars, all the content creators for this platform were posting videos like 6 years ago! Not much for recently builds or information out there.
Also my plans for the car are just a simple clean street/show car. A nice set of wheels and coils. It’s already tinted. GT/CS front bumper, duck bill, Vectors. Short throw shifter, audio system install… And then drive it around in the summer and park it at shows. I just want to keep it nice for as long as possible.
@@joshc9846 I appreciate it man, hope you enjoyed! I agree, after I bought the car I realized that there wasn't a ton of content to watch on these things! Tbh I'm jealous, I have no regrets building this but it definitely isn't street driveable anymore. I really want another one (or maybe a different Gen?) to just keep nice and enjoy in the summer. Not sure if having two of the same car would be great for content though lol! Feel like I'd be better to switch it up
@@LooseFab For sure brother. I made the mistake with my old Lexus of trying to make it all drifty, sliding it everywhere.. I never wrecked it but after years of just treating it as a tool to beat on, it wasn’t in tip top shape anymore and I lost a sense of pride in it.. I don’t want to repeat that with this car. Hopefully in 20 years this thing will be sitting in my (future) shop, waiting for my (future) son to learn to drive a manual ..
I want to buy a truck as well so I’m not driving this thing around all day. People can say what they want about S197’s being a dime a dozen, so long as they keep up that mentality they won’t be a dime a dozen much longer… They’re almost old enough to be classics. I think a well taken care of and tastefully street modded car is the way to go.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you’re having much more fun than I’m having with mine, I don’t baby my car but it will probably also never see a drift course…
@@joshc9846 haha I might be having more fun but I won't be having fun for as long as you. If you take good care of yours I'm sure I'll get to see all those dreams to fruition! Like you know with your Lexus, drift cars don't live long happy lives lol. I'd definitely like to get another one while they're still a dime a dozen, it's a ton of car for the money and they're one of the best looking mustangs imo
I love these 3 valves
I’ve had a sn95 and a 2v so that’s next in line for me haha

Love the s197 fantastic platform. These cars can be built for any motorsport, and be driven to the track and back no issue. They get a bad rep because the doctor is a few years newer and makes more power stock for stock but naaam
@@MrInstinctGamer heck yeah! I asked on some Ford specialty groups and they said this would be an awesome platform to start with, I'm stoked. I'm used to driving older stuff so having such a modern, stiff chassis is going to be so fun. Thanks for watching dude!

@@salsavillo9146 I don't mind the cowl hoods but this is definitely my favourite spec too. I love the flat trunk. Have you done anything to your 07 or just enjoying it as is?
Some BC's an MGW shifter, watts link and cosmetic stuff like I replaced the pedestal wing for the gt500 wing because it has the holes drilled in it and I have no idea how I would fill them and make it look clean. But I drove around for a couple days without a wing and fell in love with the look. No power adders yet tho, just got it in January
@@salsavillo9146 I've heard really good things about those mgw shifters! How do you like the BC's? I was really debating getting those
I love the MGW, it's awesome how you can adjust the throw and it makes the 2-3 shift effortless. The BC's are great, although I went straight from stock so I don't have much to compare them to. I also got a Ford racing finned diff cover so I could run a temp gauge to my Banks Idash. You have to drill out the sensor location tho, it's blocked off on the inside and it's m10x1.5 which is odd but once all pieced together it's nice to have
@@salsavillo9146 dang a diff temp sensor would be super nice to have! I'm in the same boat, I got feals but I have nothing to compare them to. My old Datsun and my ae86 had cut and weld coilovers which weren't anything to write home about lol

Looks like a promising start to a build.
Hey thanks for watching. I had no idea the pin would turn into such a headache! The car is pretty low mileage so I didn't do the bearings/seals, do you think I still should've?
@LooseFab they are cheap enough and easy when you have the diff opened up anyways. But as long as there isn't any excessive play or leaking at the wheel end you should be ok.

I love seeing 3v content. I have an 06 GT convertible. The guy I bought it from wanted to make it a drift car but ended up not doing it. I think the suspension on it came off of another 3v built for drifting but I’m not 100% sure
@@whuttontarnation2484 super cool! Always nice when you can get into a car that's already had some work done to it! Do you have any future plans for the car? Any idea what make the suspension is?
@@LooseFab I’m not sure the make of the suspension but I can try to take a look. All I know is it was on the brother of the PO’s car and then when that car got wrecked they swapped it. It handles pretty good too, or at least a lot better than my F150 😂. Right now the plan is to clean it up. Replace the back bumper, he passenger side mounts for it, maybe replace the front bumper, put some new tires (maybe wheels it just depends) on it. I’m getting married soon and am trying to have the car looking sharp for that. Beyond that I’d kind of like to put a cage in it for extra rollover protection and so I can do some events if I ever want to, some hot rod cams or something similar, and maybe a super charger of some type down the line. I’ve also found some shaker hoods for sale for it and I’d kinda like to get one if possible but I’m not sure it’s in the cards financially right now on top of the other stuff that the car needs

@@mustang91 I should've done that while I had it apart lol! I have some friends sith sn95 that I drift with, they went to 4.10 and found them to be just a little too short. I’m confused a little, why are you welding the diff on a live-axle lsd car? Well it be better drifting wise?
@@erron2504 exactly! Clutch packs in an LSD can wear out, and in drift they are unpredictable. If you slow down mid drift quite often they will unlock and behave like an open diff would. The right way would be to run a full spool in this car but I didn't want to have to mess with the gear backlash, so I just went the welding route. Good question and thanks for watching!
@@LooseFab thanks for the information man I appreciate it.
@@erron2504 no problem man!
Yes
Why weld the diff when all gt mustang come with a limited slip diff?
Good question! Limited slip diffs are really unpredictable when drifting. They usually lock up properly when you initiate a drift, but if you change your speed at all mid drift they tend to unlock and act like an open diff, causing you to straighten. This makes it predictable and stay locked 100% of the time. Thanks for watching!
Wonder if cutting on the diff, to get that pin out affected the integrity of it at all?
Hopefully that rearend doesn't grenade on ya at launch on your first pass, lol
I was honestly quite worried about that exact thing happening lol! Especially because I was an idiot and cut the wrong side to start with. But I can confirm the diff holds up great, I have really beat on it already! (track vid is up on Sunday btw)
