- Om Birla Lok Sabha Speech: There was significant sloganeering in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after Speaker Om Birla read out a statement regarding the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Birla stated, “Dictatorship was imposed on such an India by Indira Gandhi. The democratic values of India were crushed and freedom of expression was strangled.” The remarks led to an uproar, which was followed by adjournment of the House. The House will reconvene on June 27.
