I always zone out during VOR navigation lectures and only kind of mentally get the basics such as there's a TO/FROM and the radials radiate from the center, and so on and so forth..
I understand VOR's however, Trying to do this under the hood flying by instruments only and holding my headings, altitude to ACS standards. I can manage to tune the two VOR's but trying to graph two lines on my Foreflight or paper maps to find my position is super difficult for me. I end up loosing my heading or altitude as I am under instrument. I can only take my eyes off the instruments for like 2 seconds at a time and that's not enough time for me to even try to start the graph line. Easy on the written exam but super hard doing it when flying under the hood. Is there any tricks to this. I have my Private Pilot check-ride coming up and need to find my position under the hood and stay in ACS standards.
Thank you for explaining so well. It is much easier to understand. I understand there's no "TO" radial, but can one refer to the 090 radial as the outbound 270 radial or is that just too much unnecessary information
No. The 090 radial is its name. It does not change regardless of your direction of travel. You can be inbound or outbound on the 090, but it is still the 090 radial.
At aprox. 0.48..Are you using two different charts:..? The VOR-I.D. Freq. at center screen reads-[ one-one-niner-point-two-five ] the rectangular box at about 285°-FROM- the center screen VOR reads [ one-one-three-point-seven ] with the Morse - ( O-C-F ) identifier…why the discrepancy between the VOR I.D. Frequency..?
If your initial aircraft position is farther west and you fly 45 degrees to intercept the 90 radial, you will instead intercept the 270 radial. How do you deal with that situation?
Either fly directly to the station, or flow a shallower intercept angle. Or, ask the controller if he minds if you intercept on the 270 and fly that inbound. On a checkride, though, I wouldn't recommend the third option.
First off, where did you get the Freq. 113.7 for the VOR? I don't see that on the chart. If you going to cover the basics start with the 1st Step which is properly identifying the VOR you wish to reference for your navigation.
All you had to say was that the VOR Freq is in the Rectangular Box at the Top Right of the VOR outside of the it's Compass Rose. I was confusing the Freq. of the Airport OCF 119.25. So that's I said everything needs to be properly explained if you're going to explain how to use something especially when it comes to safely piloting and navigating an aircraft.
You spend so much time talking about how not to do it. I stopped watching after 2 minutes. Tell people what to do. don't tell them what not to do. How hard is that?
Finally! An explanation that was easy to follow!!! Thank you.
Looove your videos and the guys voice soo nice and soothing
Great job!! Need more videos!
Thank you for this information!
I finally got it. Thanks!
holy shit...thanks so much
Got it even though I'm not a pilot. Good teaching and lecturing....
GENIAL
Thanks for this Video!! Greetings from Austria
Thanks for watching!

So they're not called "To" radials it's just that the instrument shows "TO/FROM" on it typically.
Using the concept of "To" radials can cause you to intercept the wrong radial! Banish the term from your vocabulary and you won't make that mistake.

Always fly a radial with a FROM flag!

no shit I finally understood that, thank u

Ain't no such thang as a too radial, got it ;)
Thanks

Look at the video again. It's shown starting at the :48 at the point when the narrator mentions 113.7 as the frequency. Sorry that you overlooked it.
I saw that image come up at the :48 mark before but that Freq. is different from the Freq. on the larger drawing of the VOR in the Video.
@@mktwatcher I'm sorry. I don't see any other "different Freq." At what time point do you see this in the video?
@@mktwatcher go to the vfr chart and fly the 275 radial to locate the frequency

Existence is spelled incorrectly at 4:26. No Gold Seal for you
