My all-time favorite toy when I was a kid in the early '70s! Who cares about how the game is played? We just loved startling people with those Poppin Hoppies!
I had this game... a hand-me- down from older siblings. I dont recall actually playing this game.. just letting these things hop all over the place. Great memories
I loved that game back in the 60's. I got it for Christmas and I have been looking for it since then as it went off the market. I was thrilled with the game as my sister got Jane West and Green Ghost which I have not been able to find.
Kinda reminds me of the Parker Brothers game Leapin Letters, where you drew plastic letters to try to finish he word on your card, if you didn't need the letter, you used a plastic catapult to shoot it into the air, and if any other player needed that letter they could grab it. It was fun but no one I asked about it had ever heard of it; then one day I found one on Ebay and got it so now I feel vindicated!
I remember this! And thanks for posting the full version, which I rarely saw! I also remember a brand of kids' shoes called Jumping Jacks (I believe they're still made), and for a time they gave away a free "Jumping Jacks Pop-up" modeled on the ones in "Poppin' Hoppies." Oh, how I wanted one!
I always thought it was hoppin poppies :) thats Ed Wynn on the voice over... I'm sure... but I remember a more contemporary commercial from the late 60's with a jingle hoppin poppies keep on h oppin or something like that
Introduced mid to late 1960s in US. POSSIBLY Still available in other countries. All appear to be the same game play. Original meant as four player but with only two or as many as desired another easy game is press a hoppie and slide it to other person who must press it down then slide it to any other player. Sort of like hot potato. Second and later players add one pressed hoppie, each hoppie can go to different players if three or more. If the hoppie pops the receiver must catch it. If missed they are out. Players are NOT competing for same hoppies in the air, slightly safer but not as much planning for color to complete the image.

Not likely, as Ed Wynn died in the summer of 1966.

I know exactly what you mean! I had the memory of it being called Hoppin Poppies, which makes more sense because what exactly is a Hoppie??
