A documentary about White Center; a place just south of Seattle and that is the most ethnically and linguistically diverse area in Washington state.
This is a Youth Media Institute Production, 2006.
Fourteen years after this video was made I see it and love it and have lived it. What a great record of the growth in our community. Everyone involved should be proud of being a part of this legacy video.
I love the DUBSEA till my last breath everyone check out white center blues by Nick chambers aka N.M.C. my grandpa's best move was moving my family from eastern wa to the DUBSEA and embedding my Sepulveda families name in the DUBSEA back in the early 70's write a book about my family and I promise it would be a box office hit for the good bad and ugly we went through. when someone asks me where I'm from I never say seattle I say either the WEST or WHITE CENTER period!
my husband grew up here and my family has heard many stories of his childhood in the 70 80's. His stories sound just like the man in the video (Mengstab Tzegai) I found this video interesting. My husband is the strongest person I know! just like the girl in the video said "The struggle will make you stronger" It was even harder for him being white. He has done quite well for himself so I beleive you can overcome anything. Growing up in White Center made him the strong man he is today

Anyone who grew up in Seattle knows it's is one of the most diverse cities in the country

Went to Mt View elementary school 1969 to 1972. Played little league for Tom's Chevron Black. Basketball for Sonics at Red Shield and WigWams my favorite store and Herfies burgers.
I used to go to evolution all the time! Been so long I almost miss it lol. As bad as white center was when I lived there and as much fucked up shit happened to me there I also had the time of my life as well. Good times and bad times.

what's so bad about coronado spring?
you must not been to boise,north and south dakota, denver, portland, st.paul Minnesota and etc. i've been to seattle many times and it is pretty diverse. This cities and states i've mention is about 99.9% white. Seattle isn't the whitest city in the country I can gurantee that.

White Center is not a bad place to live. Just because there's a high poverty level and it's rundown does not make it a "Ghetto."

interesting enough White Center is sometimes referred to by the nickname "Rat City" due to the historical presence of a military Relocation and Training Center during World War II
Seattle has become an overpopulated City it's not so fun anymore

Why do they call it White Center? Perhaps "Poor White Center" or "We Don't Want Any Whites Center"... Some parts of it ARE nice, but in general, it's an awful place, full of thrift stores and cheap restaurants (almost ALWAYS Mexican or Ethiopian).
