  • Wow, what a ride it's been. To say this album changed my life is an understatement. I wholeheartedly love this album and the place it takes me to every time I play it from front to back. It's a genuine masterpiece and I'm hoping the final album of the DEMA Storyline can match it's storytelling, atmosphere and dire tone.

It's understandable to see why Trench is the Pilots' most critically acclaimed album; sonically, lyrically and thematically it's an absolute masterpiece with each song feeling like a new experience each time you listen to it (namely due to the sheer depth in complexity of production. I will never forget the realisation that there is a slight sound of typewriter noises in Bandito, which cleverly links back to Clancy). Not to sell it too short but the best phrase that describes it is "oops all bangers".
They had a year of silence and they seriously did NOT disappoint. As I've said the music was phenomenal but as you mention in the video, it was also the run up to the album that made it special, especially with the heightened communication with the Clique after the hiatus. From the reveal of dmaorg, to the billboards in London, the emails of "are you awake" and the amount of leaks, it really was something special that got the clique active, communicating and connected. I don't think any other album or single release has come close to that not only tøp wise but artist wise for me. It's why this album just feels special, there isn't a logical explanation of things put in place to make it such from a marketing level, it just was. And I do feel that a lot of the songs contribute to this special feeling of joy, nostalgia and ascending to another plane of existence (see Neon gravestones, Bandito, Leave the City, pet cheetah, cut my lip).
The album was important for me on a personal level due to a lot of personal struggles I was going through and it also kick-started my CZcams. And going to the concert and seeing Bandito and leave the city live was a very very special experience, one I will never ever forget.
So happy birthday trench, you quirky little concept album

I can’t describe how much this album changed my life. I was in the 6th grade and going through some dark times. Neon gravestones not only helped keep me alive, but it kept me hopeful. It contains my favourite lyric ever written: Find your grandparents or someone of age. Pay some respect for the path that they paved. To life, they were dedicated. Now that should be celebrated. At that point in time in my life, my grandpa was dying. Those lines motivated me to make sure that his story was known and recorded. It also helped alleviate my own fears of aging. Instead of thinking about the wrinkles im gonna get, i think about the stories i will be able to tell. Now, this is just me talking about the outro to one song, but i could rant for hours on how this entire album flipped my world around. I thought i would share the most prominent sentiment i gained: experiencing life gives someone information. Information they can utilize to help themselves and others. One other thing i forgot to mention, Legend has a very similar place in my heart. The day before my grandpa died (from dementia) i went to see him in the hospital. He could only really remember things from his childhood. The biggest part of life for him growing up was music and singing. I knew that even if he forgot everything, even if he forgot who i was, he would recognize the beauty of music. I got to play on my ukulele and sing to him this song the day before he passed. I got to tell him how legendary he is. I got to show my grandpa the song that Tyler didn’t have the chance to show his grandpa. I feel so honoured and appreciative that this song exists, and that it was released when it was. All of it just hits so much harder five years later. I miss my grandpa, but at least I know hes not in any more pain. At least I know during those three minutes of me playing that even if he couldn’t understand what I was saying, he knew I loved him and always will. I miss my grandpa every day and the song legend always reminds me of him❤

this album is so good. best album ever created in my opinion. it encapsulates TOP. its so hard to rank these songs. every one is integral to the completion of it. jumpsuit is a perfect opener and takes you on a ride of emotions and sounds right off the bat and is a great pace setter. levitate carries on this pace perfectly and is almost like an interlude but more like a jumpsuit part 2. morph is a step back in pace but a great chapter of the story moved into quickly by levitate. its sounds define creativity at its max, and the lyrics are amazing and poetic. My blood keeps the pace of the beginning of the album going perfectly. its a fast moving side mission sort of song that keeps you moving and makes you feel like this story is still full of life and freedom. its themes are full of free will choices and freedom to help whoever u care for. chlorine is a pivot in the entire aesthetic of the album. the first part is high paced and energetic, but a problem arises in the lyrics that talk about his struggle with creativity. then the slow outro begins and its a sad lament of being lost and forgotten. in terms of sound it moves us right into the next two songs, but in terms of lyrics, smithereens takes us to a place similar to My blood about caring for someone you love and always being there for them. my blood, smithereens, and some of the next songs highlight the bandito connection and is sort of side to side with the dema and bishop talk of the other songs. smithereens is the chillest and dryest sounding song on the album. it sounds relaxed and comfortable. neon gravestones directly explains whats wrong with dema and is a combination of both depressing and lost sounding music and hopeful lyrics at the end that let you know this story isn't over and there is hope it wont end the wrong way. the hype gives us more hope with its upbeat sound, but its not completely upbeat. its sort of written from a place of somber trust in whats true even in a bad situation. nico and the niners, sonically, is full of tension and weirdness, which is perfect since its sort of an anxious battlecry against the bishops control. cut my lip slows it down and drags out feelings, making you feel the writer's fatigue in this battle and the wear and tear. this song reminds me of Frodo and Sams long treck to mount doom in lord of the rings for anyone whos watched that. bandito IMO is both the darkest and aesthetic sounding song on the album. its production brings you into a haze of hipnotization and the poetic chanting just makes the whole song creepy. it has a hopeful ending. pet cheetah is obviously the greatest mistake in music history. it sounds too weird to be true, but it is and its great. its tension filled. its a roller coaster of weird sounds that dont make sense, the ending is sick and the most bonkers part of the album. this type of music shouldn't be allowed. its too unique and ridiculously good. legend is a hopeful sounding song of love and loyalty like smithereens and my blood. its the most upbeat song on the album with virtually no negative feelings. and then leave the city doesn't need an explanation. its my favourite track on the album and you can probably see why.

Funny story... this was my last favorite TØP album for a long time. I liked it but didn't really resonate with me like Self-Titled, Blurryface, and Vessel (although I did still listen to Trench hundreds of times).
However, in 2022 it suddenly clicked with me and it was like I was hearing it for the first time. An amazing album. Just took me a while to fully appreciate it.

I really love TRENCH, it came to me at such a difficult time in my life and it helped me through so much dark mental days and not knowing where I was heading. It felt like I was also somewhat stuck and lost in Dema, just trying to find my way out and move forward with my life. And I really can't wait to see how they're going to close up the whole storyline.
Also, I truly hope that they're going to play Smithereens on the next tour soon, it is really underrated and the few times he has played it live, it was truly bone-chilling. Especially that stripped-down version is beautiful. Cut My Lip would also be great live I believe because everybody can just scream along to it.

My favorite album of all time. I don’t know that anything can ever replace it at the top for me. Tyler truly produced a work of art. You can tell he locked himself in that basement studio and gave this everything he had. He was weathered like a flag by the sea. And I think I love this album too because it has some dirty bass. No surprise when SAI came out…I immediately liked No Chances the best. It had more of a dark vibe like Trench.

I've heard tons and tons of albums, but NOTHING will ever come close to Trench's magnitude and power.
It shines in perfection, golden production and songwriting, rawness and true emotional power by hitting the exact point it should in the listener's soul and makes it mark and delivers the message, every track has its character and soul, no souless repetition.
i can talk about Trench all day no problem and i still won't run out of words and complements for it.
Trench feels like it's something that'll stay with you forever.
Hopefully it'll stay with us all forever until the day we die

trench is so nostalgic. my friend showed me jumpsuit in 2019 in 7th grade. it was unlike anything i listened to ever. i didn’t even like it at first. but slowly i started listening to more twenty one pilots. it started on september 30, 2019 when she sent me “tear in my heart” mv. i gave it a chance and fell in love. then i listened to more trench. i went through the album being obsessed with 3 songs at a time. nico and the niners was the first song i memorized. i remember the moment when i listened to the entire song and got everything but the rap. i was so happy.
in 7th grade i went through the hardest time of my life. i won’t get into it but i went into a deep depression. trench saved me. but especially leave the city. i cried tears of joy and sorrow. i changed as a person when i found what leave the city was really about. my favorite color was yellow for years and still even into today
i’m truly realizing how crazy and beautiful the production is.
i will forever be in debt to trench and, tyler and josh

Potential! The end of Nico And The Niners contains the message "we are banditos" if you reverse it! It was also confirmed to be "sokeepnedbayou", back when the chlorine music video came out. The message can tie to the lore because Ned's antlers keeps the ultimate power to control and seize corpses.
