Okay so the old songs are used in reels where people are romanticizing an building from that time, like for eg as a bengali I see a lot of reels of girls wearing saree traditional style sitting in a coffeeshop, or in a taxi(nostalgic Kolkata vibes) or people appreciating tiny nit-bits from everyday life like a vendor serving tea or a bird eating seeds, or just appreciating music from Kishor Kumar's time. Those reels are actually quite cinematic and beautiful.
I also see old songs being used in traditional cooking.

absolutely right, I am more into 70s or 80s artists than both of my parents. ( Btw I am 2004 born) I rarely saw my parents listen to Kishore kumar....They are more into Udit Narayan,alka yagnik and Kumar sanu.
Those old songs are usually in aesthetic reels. I.e showing old cities, wearing Indian clothing, cooking etc..

I'm born in 1992, a long way after Kishore Kumar. However, growing up my dad an mum used love Kishore Kumar songs and every road trip was Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar. So these songs are just my vibe. I can listen to them all day long without skipping them and on repeat
I am a 2004 born and big fan of Kishore kumar . His legacy and songs are evergreen and as i grew up i started appreciating it even more. 😊

i am early 2000s [03 to be precise] kid , i remember , my mother had a bag of CDs and cassettes just filled with songs of the 50s ,60s, 70s, 80s, 90s . like some songs were even from my maternal grandfather times . [ they used to have gramophone records at his time]
her family is kind of artistic and have these kind of singing games every get together since we were young . like with proper mike , speakers n harmonium , keyboard .
my uncles will play instruments , aunts will sing , we will dance . unfortunately , currently though these cassettes, CDs are still there , but many are now damaged .
i think many families just pass down such things - like get togethers just become a session of old generations showing these gems to the new . like for me , thats how i know so many old songs and can appreciate them - thanks to my mum . those good times , i can't wait for this year holidays🥺

The music in the golden era of hindi cinema is WAY more deeply rooted in the lives of Indians than old school music is in other parts of the world IMO . If you talk to a random indian kid growing up, chances are they know "Aapki Nazron ne samjha" (Lata Mangeshkar) and "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas" (Kishore Kumar) better than the current commercial tracks that come and go
