- The children from 6th class, Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada, Lucan, Co. Dublin, performed the Haka Gaelach for the All Blacks at their training gounds following the All Blacks' defeat by Ireland in Chicago and ahead of their game against Ireland in Dublin. It contains a mixture of the Maori Haka - Ka Mate and a re-written version of Irelands Call, specially penned for this meeting of two cultures from distant lands. This beautifully written poem contains a subtle nod to Maori heroes, including Jonah Lomu and Apirana Ngata and Irish Legends from Cú Chulainn to Anthony Foley. Whether from Ireland or New Zealand this beautiful and passionate performance will fill you with pride.
Here it is in full HD glory.
We gather today, we gather as one
Celebrating two nations and what we’ve become.
Muintir na Éirinn agus Laochra Maori ,
Muid Nascaithe le chéile toisc grá don Rugbaí
A Hundred Thousand Welcomes, From your land to here,
Two lands steeped in history and native language we hold dear.
Comradery and Sportsmanship on and off the field,
Both in Victory and Defeat our passion will never yield.
Fáilte Uí Cheallaigh, muid le cheile inniu
Ag Ceiliúradh ár laochra an grá ann go dlúth.
Cúchulainn Rangi and Papa
Pádraig Pearse Kate Sheppard
Michael Collins Apirana Ngata
Tom Crean Edmund Hillary
Brian O Driscoll Dan Carter
Anthony Foley Jonah Lomu
Ceol- Ireland’s Call
‘Nois an t-am is lá’n chinúna
Croíthe láidre agus cróga
Óna ceithre cúige, táimid anseo
Is leanfar linn go dtí gcaillfear
Cairdeas, Crógacht Na Maoiri is na Gael,
Gualainn ar Ghualainn Ní bheimid riamh I mbaol
Hearts of steel and heads unbowing
Vowing never to be broken
We will fight until we can fight no more
For the four proud provinces of Ireland
Ireland, Ireland Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We’ll answer Ireland’s call - Sport
