Between "do you wanna know what death taste like?" And "im gonna plant me a dumb ass tree" in the first movie, cooler gets some of my favorites lines from characters not voiced by the main 3 here
Krillin's laugh after Cooler says "Big Getti Star" is probably one of my favorite laughs of all time. If there was a visual I'd use a gif of it all the time. Also "Monkey Versus Robot" has a special place in my heart. In art school my professor would host these "animation potlucks" where we all brought a dish & would watch assorted animation based on a theme, & our first one's theme was "Robots."
So I had to look this up to double check, but you guys were right about the timeline. Cooler's Revenge was released in Japan July 20 1991. (EDIT: Mixed up the movies cause weird naming. Return of Cooler came out March 7 1992) Cell didn't even absorb 17 and become semi-perfect until chapter 372, which came out in April 28 1992. And Dende didn't come to Earth to become the new guardian until chapter 393, released October 6 1992. (EDIT: Ignore the rest of this cause of mixed up movies) So that's a good 14-15 months between Japanese fans seeing Dende on the lookout in the movie and finding out why he's on the lookout in the manga. In fact, the day the movie came out, the most recent chapter would have been July 16 with chapter 333. In that chapter, Trunks leads the Z Fighters to where Goku will land and it ends with him exiting the space pod. So they don't even know Earth NEEDS a new guardian yet cause Kami hasn't fused with Piccolo!
The naming convention is so confusing, even you got it wrong Cooler's Revenge is the first movie which did come out in 1991, but Cooler's *Return* came out in March 7th 1992, where the latest chapter is the first Piccolo vs Cell fight Not much better anyway
One of my favourites jokes of this movie is the exchange: - "So, you've returned once again, Freezer." - "...ᴄᴏᴏʟᴇʀ" - "Cooler." It's very subtle, but a straight punch to the face to Cooler and his copycat brother complex LOL The delivery couldn't be more perfect either. They way Goku says his line with full confidence always gets me, like he barely remembers this guy or that he should care. Also Gohan correcting him from the background, like a Director helping an actor whom forgot his lines, is just the icing on the cake. And all of that was just the prologue of the massive dunking they all do on Cooler and how unoriginal he is. That's 100% fine comedy and one of the reasons I love this TFS movie so much.
Their discussion of how Vegeta was probably kicked in the d*** at 31:20 might be the hardest I've laughed at one of these commentaries. Honestly, Taka breathed new life into the commentary since he showed and I'll be forever grateful to him.
It's such a great image. For a thousand of them to kick him in the d*ck would have taken _hours._ So much time, so much waiting, so much wondering, "Is this really worth it?" Then looking at Vegeta's face and going "YES."
I love seeing Lani get excited about the Vegeta lines he has but there's something REALLY nice about seeing Taka excited about the lines he didn't even do lol.
This movie might have some of my all-time favorite bits you guys have ever done! - Vegeta's time fighting Cooler is pure gold; the slo-mo shot of his nuts getting crunched kills me every time. - If you read the Canadian commentary, every BEEP is translated. At one point, one BEEP is this super-deep reflection on its own life... and another is just a bunch of swearing. - Fucking... CLAPTRAP! is in this.
Because of all the times ive been told that it isnt Claptraps actual voice actor in this, my immediate response is Kaiser is gaslighting me when he says it is...
It didn't click for me. Cooling soda in a cooler is a foreign concept to me. (I don't camp) Also they should have a fridge. The first Capsule spaceship had a fridge.
@@starburnt Specifically, fridges are electric ice boxes, but coolers are basically portable ice boxes, that have actual ice to keep drinks and food cold for a temporary amount of time.
@@Squarcialupi I did not expect "portable box to keep drinks cold in transit" to be a regional joke. Wait, but don't hospitals sometimes have to move donor organs? How would one do that without a cooler?
at least super saiyan was mentioned in the manga during the ginew force, dende (or a general sobstitution for kami) was never mentioned before vegeta and trunks loosing to cell
This is one of my most favorite abridged movies. I don't care for Cooler or the general non existing story. I just love how abridged characters naturally interact here, really good jokes, punch lines and great editing. You mentioned this movie source material didn't give you much to work with so you had to make it yourself. I would argue that's when your creative talent peaks! Also yes I got the water cooler joke the first time.
I distinctly remember the episode breakdown that Kaiser did for this movie, where he went into detail about all the small edits he made because the original footage was awful in certain shots. Kasier, you did damn good with this one.
The dynamic of these three together is so good! Seeing them really get into the commentary gives such a good insight into what that writers room must have been like.
I am so glad they brought Taka in to join them. The three of them just feed off each other and make these videos so good. It also helps that this is probably tied with 13 as my favorite DBZA movie. So much comedy gold in a sub 20 minute video.
God, the energy of all three of them, it’s infectious. Plus, for Kaiser, I got the “cooler” joke the first time, but not completely. My brain went “Did Goku think he said fridge?” just because he never got Cooler’s name right in the first movie.
It's weird that namekians had the technology and infrastructure to build a space ship that could make it to earth, but there's no evidence of any of this on namek.
In the manga it's mentioned how Namek basically went through an apocalypse, the ship Kami arrived in was sent during this time. After whatever happened Guru gave birth to the Namekian's we see in the Namek Saga which is why there are so few, so the Namek we see is basically a post apocalyptic so they might have lost the technology.
20:49 “Regret! Regret!” To this day that is probably the line I quote _most,_ at work, at home, playing games with friends, that line is just so funny, Goku was so cocky and confident there and immediately changes his mind lol, which describes every scenario I’ve used it for 😂
That entire sequence once they cut back to the Metal Cooler fight (starting from the end of the Vegeta loop) is my favorite part of the Abridged version of this movie. It's just so damn good.
He somehow got away from the sun and then traveled thousands of light years away in the span of about three years. Broly also somehow got attached to a comet and then the comet flew another several thousand lightyears before landing on Earth about seven years later.

January 27th, 1993: Dragon Ball Z Episode 172 (Find a New God!! Goku, the Great Instant Movement) airs for the first time.
Been a long time fan of the series, and always looked forward to the new episodes back in the day. It became a sort of audio book for my husband and I during long car trips because of how many times we watched the series and we still quote a good chunk of the lines to this day. Watching the behind the scenes back then was always a joy, and now getting to hear more deets in this new series is refreshing. wow that was a major screw up for the timeline there.
Or that Vegeta achieve super sayian.
The naming convention is so confusing, even you got it wrong
Cooler's Revenge is the first movie which did come out in 1991, but Cooler's *Return* came out in March 7th 1992, where the latest chapter is the first Piccolo vs Cell fight
Not much better anyway
Honestly I agree with them saying that Toriyama probably had the idea to make Dende the new guardian for a while and just mention it to them.
Glad to see Lani and Kaiser joined by Hackerman from Kung Fury in his timeskip form
Or Terry Sliver from Karate Kid 3.
I swear to god, Lani's delivery of Roshi going "i've done a few mammograms in my day!" sounds like he's holding in a massive bong hit
I hope they never explain why Taka's rocking Bass Pro Shops' finest sunglasses in these 😂
Alright! Time to hear Kaiser praise his favorite movie!
*BEEP* this movie!
-Kaiser, not 5 seconds into the commentary track
I love seeing the trio being such friends even after so long. I guess I'm a bit jaded with how online groups usually seem to go these days.
it's understandable. I mean i still was p broken up when Super Best Friends basically went their seperate ways.
Tell me about it.
One of my favourites jokes of this movie is the exchange:
- "So, you've returned once again, Freezer."
- "...ᴄᴏᴏʟᴇʀ"
- "Cooler."
It's very subtle, but a straight punch to the face to Cooler and his copycat brother complex LOL
The delivery couldn't be more perfect either.
31:28 This entire segment is killing me, I'm shedding tears💀
Their discussion of how Vegeta was probably kicked in the d*** at 31:20 might be the hardest I've laughed at one of these commentaries. Honestly, Taka breathed new life into the commentary since he showed and I'll be forever grateful to him.
It is the hardest I've laughed at one of these.
Same, I legit couldn't breathe at one point xD
It's such a great image. For a thousand of them to kick him in the d*ck would have taken _hours._ So much time, so much waiting, so much wondering, "Is this really worth it?"
Then looking at Vegeta's face and going "YES."
especially "Wow Vegeta, they're making me watch"
i want fanart of that scene
I love seeing Lani get excited about the Vegeta lines he has but there's something REALLY nice about seeing Taka excited about the lines he didn't even do lol.
Any time you get all 3 mouthing the line you know you are in for a good one.
Bruh they wrote the goddamn show of course they remember all the lines, even the ones they didn’t deliver
It shows how Taka just fanboys all over his friends' work which is really nice.
the "He turned into smoke" was another line that always tickled me
From 25:12 to 25:40 is one of my favorite moments in all of dbza. Thank you all three of you for this amazing moment that I quote as often as I can😂
I still can't get over the fact they really got Claptraps VA (the original) to do the lil' robot.
CLAPTRAP! is in this.
The Canadian subtitles will always be one of the greatest pieces of evidence of a function that both didn’t need to exist and didn’t need to die
I thought that was reference to HK 47
BEEP! (Have my family.)
Cooler: and you're just brown-nosing
@@sabrookchi Meatbag was, but the VA *is* CLAPTRAP.
This episode has been the closest representation of the sort of chemistry that went on in the writers room
I just love yajirobe’s “that’ll do pig”
Hearing them all act out their personal interpretations about where vegeta came from is so chaotic and hilarious.
"Not dignifying that" has those moments were you guys know how and when to use certain frames to portray certain emotions man, they always get me.
I'm so glad Taka finally got in on these. Don't get me wrong, I love Lani and Kaiser, but Taka brings such a chaotic energy that I love.
you can tell these 3 are such good friends and i love it so much, more of this is gonna be amazing
Because of all the times ive been told that it isnt Claptraps actual voice actor in this, my immediate response is Kaiser is gaslighting me when he says it is...
I got the “cooler” joke and it was SO clever
It didn't click for me.
Cooling soda in a cooler is a foreign concept to me. (I don't camp)
Also they should have a fridge. The first Capsule spaceship had a fridge.
You put the drinks in a fridge and then in a cooler to keep it, well, cool
@@starburnt Specifically, fridges are electric ice boxes, but coolers are basically portable ice boxes, that have actual ice to keep drinks and food cold for a temporary amount of time.
@@ObsidianBehemoth where I live, a lot of people have a cooler specifically for meat, and they don't camp. Unexpectedly a regional joke, I guess
@@Squarcialupi I did not expect "portable box to keep drinks cold in transit" to be a regional joke. Wait, but don't hospitals sometimes have to move donor organs? How would one do that without a cooler?
It's these guys that really make me want to pursue voice acting.
Kaiser, I honestly didn't think the cooler/drinks bit was that hard to miss. And I LOVE the more subtle jokes like that! Love and peace! 💛💚🌈
I didn't get it, so I appreciated the explanation 😅
If “true art” is created out if suffering, then this is a masterpiece. Easily one of my top 3 movie favourites from TFS
39:28 That probably is an accurate hypothesis of why Dende is there. It's similar to the 'SSJ in the Lord Slug movie' story.
at least super saiyan was mentioned in the manga during the ginew force, dende (or a general sobstitution for kami) was never mentioned before vegeta and trunks loosing to cell
@@valentds Lord Slug released in March 1991. The manga chapter illustrating Goku vs Ginyu released January 1991.
I got the “Cooler” joke for what it’s worth. I actually love how clever the joke was so well played Scott.
"that's it, killin ya both!" Is probably my favorite line from this whole movie
I distinctly remember the episode breakdown that Kaiser did for this movie, where he went into detail about all the small edits he made because the original footage was awful in certain shots. Kasier, you did damn good with this one.
You 😅
The dynamic of these three together is so good!
So I didn't know who Lee Rastus was, apparently he's David Eddings, the voice of actual Claptrap from Borderlands! Cool!
"Freeza was cooler, and Cooler was Freeza" is an underrated line.
Thank you for making Guerrero say the killer "Do you want to know what death tastes like?" line, Its my favorite line in any movie youve done
The "kick in the dick" gag is seriously the funniest thing in the entire series, in my opinion.
Their albino brothers knew how
Might've been lost in the great drought. They are basically a post-apocalyptic society at this point, after all
@@Nick-tc9ps so there were more clans than the dragon and warrior clan. The techno albino clan lived and worked in namek's extensive cave system
@@reddeadspartan i wonder why tf they just didn't wish for the apocalypse to end or restore the planet and technology lol
Ah yes, the movie known for it's 'incredible' animation quality.
Edit: Holy shit the goku cuck jokes made me laugh way harder than i should've.
That's all technically correct.
I always forget how Cooler survived being shot into the sun, like did he just roll off the sun?
It cartoonishly spat him back out because he tasted bad
"Somehow cooler returned"
He somehow got away from the sun and then traveled thousands of light years away in the span of about three years.
Broly also somehow got attached to a comet and then the comet flew another several thousand lightyears before landing on Earth about seven years later.
The sun is hot but he is that much Cooler
Here's the timeline:
March 7th, 1992: Premiere of Clash!! 10,000,000,000 Powerful Warriors.
October 6th, 1992: Dragon Ball Chapter 393 (A New God) is published as part of the Weekly Shōnen Jump.
I look forward to every (Taka) Tuesday and Saturday now 😁 Thank you for the years of laughter, and I hope you all do well in future endeavors!
I knew the next episode would be even cooler than the last!
That's pretty cold.
@@eropandasennin13 Chill dude, it’s a pun
@@DaBossMn That's a frosty response of you.
@@eropandasennin13 much like a robot, I’m cold and merciless😈
@@DaBossMn Which you got from the Spaghetti Star right?
I like how they just casually glance over they got the voice actor for Claptrap to do the death robot voice.
I gotta give Scott huge props in the editing of this movie. He adds so much to make it look great in the end! Thanks for your hard work, Kaiser!
The dick-kicking lines are the hardest I've ever laughed at any TFS thing! The timing, the delivery... it's just all perfect! 😂😂
Taka quoting "The big gete star allowed me to cheat death, how can this be" gives me life.
"Wow, Vegeta, they're making me watch!"
fucking gold
It reminded me of the Pie scene from Family Guy, but I also imagine it like Clockwork Orange where the Metal Coolers are forcing his eyes open
Dende used the Dragon Balls to come to earth and ask for help. Removing the Big Gete Star was beyond its power.
"Wow, Vegeta! They're making me watch!"
I'm dead.
I can't recognize Takahata without him being upside down.
We should get him some monkey bars to hang from.
Well he did achieve the perfect bridge
I wanna like your comment, but I know I really shouldn't
I feel if this had come out after their XenoVerse playthrough it probably would have had a line about how the big Getty star allowed him to cheat death.
Anyone else feel that way?
How can this be?!?!
Kaiser is basically a self made foley artist, editor, basically Everything! He’s so amazing. Love you guys so much, this commentary is giving me life. New appreciation for all of y’all! 🖤🤘🏻
I know the original movies can be pretty rough, but as a long time enjoyer of TFS I’m hope they love all the work they’ve done for us to laugh and hold so close to our hearts. I quote these fools all the time 😂
