Unlike New York City's Midtown or Lower Manhattan, Upper Manhattan doesn’t attract as many tourists. But we shouldn’t underrate Upper Manhattan. Here, you will find historic scenery to include the two oldest homes in the city, and neighborhoods that celebrate the rich heritage of the African-American and Hispanic communities. In this video, we are zooming into the northernmost area of Manhattan - NYC's Upper Manhattan.

This is where I spent my entire childhood but I hardly knew any of the history! Thanks for this information
As a native NYer, I am finding your videos super informative and have been sharing with friends to learn about my great city. Welcome and thank you for what you are doing!
Your videos are brilliant. I am an Australian who visited NY for the first time last year and I find your videos very informative and entertaining.
Great video of covering my neck of the woods of Manhattan. Both Washington Heights and Inwood have a lot of things to see and do. Harlem is also a great neighborhood but I love my neighborhood of Washington Heights. Oh Thea, The Dutch spelling of Harlem where it gets its name has an extra "a" . It's still like this: Haarlem . It's kind of weird but that's part of the Dutch history of the city.
Can you do similar video on SI/ Bronx/ Qn/ Bk?
This one is also wonderful as usual.
after I moved to NYC, Your channel helped me a lot
awesome details on history. thanks! 🌃
Really great content! Keep it up 🎉
Your videos are EXCELLENT! Thank you!!
You have the best videos and reviews on NYC. the editing is awesome. Great work
Loved this series! Hopefully one day I can travel to NYC again.
I hope you so too! Thank you for watching 😊
I fell in love with your channel 2 years ago when you had only a few videos. I saw one of your newer videos in my recommendations. There are so many new videos and I am now going to binge watch them all. I think you do an excellent job at mixing real-world footage and graphics along with your personal dialogue. I like how you focus on a specific area/aspect of New York. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the nice comment! It's always nice to hear when people stick around for so long. Thank you for watching. 😊
Another brilliant information video about Manhattan. Not many streamers on CZcams have covered the upper part of the island, so it's great to see this one. Nice links as well, thank you.
Thanks! It was actually really interesting to look into the history of Upper Manhattan. I hope some of the museums open up soon.
Between 125 and 120 streets in Riverside Drive is Grant’s Tomb. Former president and civil war hero Ulysses Grant resting place. Good job on the video.
I visited Inwood Hill Park for the first time a few days ago, and its rugged parts are basically indistinguishable from the woods I grew up with in my town about 25 miles to the north. So, totally undisturbed from their earlier form. With some paved trails and stone steps. Pretty great if you like that sort of thing. Similar to Central Park's "The Ramble" a bit, haven't spent enough time in either to compare them.
Thanks for the great content
I live in NYC and I'm learning so much about this city because of your work.
My wife and I are planning to go to Roosevelt Island after watching your video on it. The maps are super helpful to understand and follow along
That's so great to hear! I'm sure the island will be great with the current weather. Thanks for watching!
That's so great to hear! I'm sure the island will be great with the current weather. Thanks for watching!
Another fantastic video, you asked for favorite areas, mine is the lower east side. Keep up the great work Thea
Thanks! LES is one of my favorites too, along with East Village. Lots of good restaurants and bars.
Love your vids. Was nice to see content on my neighborhood, UES.
Thank you so much. No one ever mentions this part of NY. Are the boundaries set in stone, in the minds of the people who live there? Would a person from the UES let their children play one block away in Harlem ♥
She has no idea, shes clearly never been to harlem, ask someone who lives there.
@bobsmith2944 I haven't been there, that's why I asked. I watched a movie, and the mom wouldn't let the nanny to the LES, so I wondered if it would be the same for Harlem.
Great series ! ! !
Thank you! It took awhile to finish but it's finally done.
Great vid thank you ,just subbed. will watch all your vids thanks agin
DO. NOT. MISS. The amazing musical documentary "Summer of Soul", filmed in Harlem.
Well done. I probably would’ve mentioned Grants Tomb and Riverside but I guess that’s for another episode 😂 This summer, I’m going to take the Circle Line around the island - haven’t done it in years and am now interested primarily in the northern tip of Manhattan and the construction of the ship canal that you referenced in the video around Spuyten Duyvil connecting the Harlem River to the Hudson.
Now this side of NYC i had no idea about.
The first video I watched was when Thea "how do you do" in the UWS video.
I can't imagine how much research you have put in for this video!
5:49 This bridge in Manhattanville appeared in The Amazing Spider Man.
Wow it's a wrap. Thank you Thea for covering the whole Manhattan.
Wow, that video seems like forever ago. Thanks for watching!
Fascinating....thanks!
Love your videos!!! This one was wonderful!!!! UWS and UES are two of my favorites!!!
Thank you! Those two videos were really fun to make and I'm happy to hear they're your favorite. 😊
Good video. But, you miss pronounced some of the names such as: Schomburg, CUNY.
Wow, cool stuff. Thanks!
Awesome content 👌😍👍
Thanks for watching!
Your maps are very helpful. I appreciate the detail of landmarks and sprinkle of history.
Many thanks! It's always a pleasure to make these videos.
I love your videos!! You should make a similar series on the areas of Brooklyn! Maybe all the boroughs eventually. Keep making this great educational content!
Same with the Bronx.
Great video, one day i will come to new York City
Thank you for watching!

i love your videos and learn a lot. What about the art deco movement in NYC and who went after it?
Thanks! We'll probably get to talk about Art Deco when we cover the Chrysler Building.
Wonderful 🤗
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for this these videos about Manhattan. Is New York City and Manhattan the same thing or does New York City include other areas in New York?
NYC is made up of 5 boroughs and Manhattan is one of the boroughs. The other 4 are Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island.
Why does the Upper West Side end at 110th street but the Upper East Side end at 96th?
Them: Upper manhattan
Me: Manhattan panhandle
Thanks for the video. I think you should have been more objective in describing Harlem, picture is not as rosy as you described it here.
I love you so. I miss you so
One. Love. Ph
To GOD be the glory
❤+❤+❤+
You are cool.
The Dutch spelling is Haarlem-double “a” not double “e”
Oyk
Harlem is derived from the city of Haarlem in The Netherlands, not Harleem.
