Marcus Garvey: Leader of a Revolutionary Global Movement

- Marcus Garvey was born in Jamaica and experienced the impacts of colonization at the hands of the British. As a result, he developed a passion for improving race relations and launched a Black Nationalism movement that would seek to elevate black people throughout the world.
In 1914, Garvey created the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). This revolutionary social movement came at a time when black Americans were being lynched and ridiculed in the media. After immigrating to the United States in 1916, Garvey’s mission offered hope to black Americans with the promise of emigrating black people back to Africa. As his movement grew, the United States government monitored him. He was eventually arrested, convicted, and banned from entering the country.
In this episode of Black History In Two Minutes or So hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., with additional commentary from Peniel Joseph of The University of Texas and Hasan Jeffries of Ohio State University, we take a closer look at Garvey’s legacy and his contribution to the largest black political movement ever.

@@sportreelz7025 Garvey did not laid the foundation of the movement. the movement started in Haiti, with w.e.b. dubois, a Haitian American, and antenor firmin, a Haitian statesman and a writer, etc. Mr firmin funded the movement. Google antenor firmin founder of pan-africanism. Garvey, born in 1888, was only 12 year's old when the movement was founded.

I feel like races retreating back national segregation is going backwards. I'm mixed so I know it's effected my view on race relations. Evolve beyond this mindset of race, and coexist together. It's possible, just requires all races to unconditionally love each other. Might be a challenge, bit still very possible. We are all one.
For there to be unity, there has to be equality. There exists no equality when Black people are still undergoing so much oppression and destruction (both within and without). We have to actualise ourselves first, so that we can sit on the same table as Whites and Jews. Then we can truly begin talking about equality.
Its not possible for all races to love each other because its the basic trait of being humans who are apart of the animal kingdom. Only through segregation can you have a certain level of respect and tolerance. Even those of mixed race eventually breed to contribute to a dominant race.

Wait a minute. Where is Earnest Coxx and Walter Plecker, his white supremacist and Eugenic patrons in this Narrative? Was it a fact that Jamaica force Garvey out to begin with?
He wanted to take over Africa not just repatriate. I wonder why he could not continue his plan from Anywhere on earth. Why was the US necessary for it to succeed? Just curious.
He never said he wanted to take over Africa so stop soiling his good name. He recognized himself as an African and knew his identity, thus wanting to reconnect with his homeland instead of remaining mentally enslaved and abused. He also saw the benefit of unity among Africans and how it can help our race, but house slave like yourself, if you're black led to his demise. USA wasnt necessary for him to succeed but he knew that in order for him to accomplished his goal, it requires a large black population. US have the largest black population outside Africa and have been the ones to shape the fate of the black diaspora outside of and within Africa.

Du Bois, stated that Garvey was “without doubt, the most dangerous enemy of the Negro race in America and in the world. He is either a lunatic or a traitor.” Was Du Bois a house black as you called it? No offense to you intended.
How can he tried to take over Africa, when he never set foot in Africa? w.e.b.dubois, one of the founder of Pan-African movement, died in Africa, where he lived for many year's. w.e.b. dubois, a Haitian American, and Mr firmin, also funded the movement.
