- How do you name acids? We'll learn how to look at the chemical formula for an acid and then write its name. We will focus on both acids without oxygen and also acids that contain oxygen, which are sometimes called oxoacids. In order to name an acid, you need separate the H+ from the negative ion. Then you figure out the name of the negative ion, and use rules for acid compound naming. If the negative ion ends in ide, the acid is hydro -ic acid. If the negative ion ends in -ate, the acid is -ic acid. If the negative ion ends in -ite, the acid is -ous acid. It's also important to note that there are some exceptions: phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, sulfuric acid and sulfurous acid.
When ur teacher says "any questions?" And so say "no" but u don't understand anything so u watch Tyler DeWitt's lessons 😂
Same, especially when you're in a 9AM class with 200 other people and the teacher is trying to go through 40 powerpoint slides in 50 minutes. xD
lol same 12:30 class in chm 2045

FACTS!
yeah HAHAHA
Dear people who bring up the hands,
There are lots of chem videos out there for people who don't like seeing hands that use khan academy style writing software but 90% of the time that method comes off as impersonal and almost robotic. Sure, nothing is in the way to block your view but what good is that if the information is too convoluted to understand or too dull to stay awake through!
What Tyler DeWitt does is simply brilliant; he grabs your attention and presents the information in such a practical and easy to follow way. Asking him to take away his hands is like asking him to take his soul out of the videos. (That's why that suggestion is so hurtful). His hands guide you and take you on an epic journey of understanding first semester chemistry (and beyond)(,:
Thanks so much Tyler!!
Tyler's vids are waaaay better than khan academy's.
i agree with you
you are completely right
Well put!
Good job bro.May the Lord grants you more wisdom and knowledge beyond expectations.Alman from Sierra Leone.
@@donnymalen1162 I get sad when there are no tyler dewitt videos... I've been watching chemistry tutor lately as tyler hasn't had any videos on what I was learning. I am glad he is back in the rotation. He is the best.
I love this dude. He doesn't include any corny humor or "lol so relatable" moments like some other youtube educators do. He knows what the students straight up need and teaches it in such an effective, clear, and organized way!!!!
Yeah
He is just amazing teacher.I wish he teaches me
Yes Indeed.
Thank God I found you. If it wasn't for you, I would be failing Chemistry. You are awesome!!!! Best Instructor
Awesome 😇
no problem ray
You're probably the best teacher I've seen on CZcams. You speak clearly, and you express interest as if you're telling a story to us. You always provide clear pictures. You avoid using overly complex terms only advanced people would know. You're honestly amazing and I don't know where I'd be in Chemistry right now without your lessons.
I agree. Tyler Dewitt is the best I've seen on CZcams. He also comes across as a wonderful human being. We need more teachers like him.
Thank you so much Tyler! I have a Chemistry test and my teacher is horrible compared to you. YOU explain this materials like you discovered it, with fluidity and great examples! Thank you so much for these awesome explanation videos! Keep up the great work!
+Tamir Offen She's horrible compared any teacher I have ever had...

Nice one
What a great teacher he is. He is the reason why not everyone should become a teacher and only those who can actually teach. I remember suffering through many teachers who only saw it as a job and then experienced a biology teacher who was a teacher with all of her heart and explained everything SO well, step by step, and if you had a question, she always wanted you to ask. She made me go to med school after being a high school drop out. Due to her I learned to learn and to have fun studying something which I thought I would never ever be able to study.
Thank you Tyler Dewitt, because of you, I came up with a way to have two jobs at once.
1.Become a Teacher.
2.Come into classroom.
3.Show a playlist of all your videos on the computer.
4.Leave.
not bad except biology did this with the ameoba sisters haha
I cant thank you enough for these videos. Every one I have watched I seem to have that "Ohhhhh...." moment. I am going to pass my Chemistry course because of your help. Thank you so much
Tyler Hall in HBr example.. Both hydrogen and bromide comes under non metals and covalent group.. So how can u call them as ions?
@@parttwosteba Hydrogen is an exception
DONT LET HATERS GET TO YOU. YOUR VIDEOS HONESTLY SAVED MY LIFE. I failed chemistry so many times I don't even bother to count but your videos gave me hope again.
I love how you were smiling so hard when you were saying the phrases on how to remember them. & thank you!
I learned more information in 10 minutes from you than from my own teacher in two weeks... Thank you
Perfect timing! I have a unit test tomorrow. Wish me luck!

...can you be my Chemistry Professor?
MNGMakeup 👋
I have a good professor but this guys rating is off the charts!
Thank you Tyler for what you do. It's 2020 and you are the only thing keeping me going through my chemistry for mortuary college. I was feeling so lost until I found your videos. Thank so much and I hope more subscriptions come your way. Stay safe out there.
I love your videos! Ive watched so many since I started chem 1 about two weeks ago and I haven't taken a chemistry class since high school almost 10 years ago. Not even intro to chem! So i am beyond thankful for the way you teach and how patiently you speak. Its also been nice watching you grow from when you first started your videos to now. Its fun to see your expressions and I feel like your hands make it more like a one on one tutor lesson. Which, i can really appreciate as a visual learner. Thank you so much for being you and taking the time to put out videos to help us all !!
You help me (and many others, I'm sure) learn my chemistry better than my professor ever has. Thank you so much!
You are going to be my lifesaver this year
I cannot stress enough on here how helpful these videos are. I'm taking college pre-chemistry. Our professor seems kind of scatter brained in his teaching methods. These videos put everything straight. Thank you.
I just wanted to thank you so much for your videos. I'm currently in college taking biochemistry having no prior background in Chemistry. You're a life saver and have kept me to an A standard. I'm always happy to see when you've made a video on a topic I need.
Really wish I found your channel way earlier in life! Super helpful, definitely got a sub from me! Keep up the helpful/good videos Tyler!
I literally learn way more with your videos than i do physically attending my chem lecture!!! Love your explinations and strategies. You are my chem savior, THANK YOU!!!
You are the best professor ever! Never stop teaching, you sure have a gift. I passed my introduction to Chemistry class with an A because of your videos. Now I am taking the next level of Chemistry and I am going to keep checking back at your lessons.
Thank you!
Thank you Tyler! You are an amazing teacher and the methods you use are so refreshing. You keep me riveted to your lesson and prevent me from getting bored. I'm learning so much through your lessons.
You are a saint.
you are awesome..God bless you!
Tyler has always been MY FAVORITE Chemistry teacher all the time! Much love to you, I've been following you for years 🙏🙏❤❤
Tyler,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS!
I took chemistry junior year in high school, AP chem senior year, and this is my 2nd round in college. You are the only person that explains it in terms that I can understand. I love how thorough you are! I finally get Chemistry thanks to you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
When he says hopefully your teacher can provide you with a list of polyatomic ions, Bro- you are my teacher
Tyler brother you really helped me in chemistry and have a small request that is please start to explain PHYSICS also
Surprise quiz tomorrow, came here, and now going into tomorrow feeling very confident. I appreciate your lectures because they explain things in depth. Your enthusiasm is also a benefit; nothing like a teacher who loves what they do.
Thank you, man!
Thank you so much DeWitt for your videos. I have avoided chemistry all through college because understanding chemistry doesn't come easy to me. You just make chemistry so easy to understand. I received a 97% on my first exam thanks to your videos. I never thought I would be that person in class to get A's in chem. You are a life saver.....!! I have even recommended my classmates to watch your chem videos.. Thanks again.
I love this guy. Thank you so much!
Yo this is amazing thanks fam.
You are a teacher unlike a lot of people who get jobs teaching. Some of these people just show off their knowledge and go too fast missing out steps so only a minority of people get to understand.
Currently reviewing all topics from the semester before my final. If only I found these videos sooner, it would have saved me so much stress! You make chemistry easy to understand!!
you are honestly better than my chem teacher!!!
I really like your videos lol, much better than my professor!
How is everyone in college and I’m here only 13 yo =\
hey man, every lesson of yours that i watch to help me review for tests and quizes, I pass like with a great mark. thank you so much!
I've watched several several several videos on this topic.... This is the ONLY one that makes sense!! Thank you for making it easy to understand!!
i love you. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY UNIVERSITY LIFE
this is very very useful to every students
Kuricheti Vsudheeer yea bra
I love the way you break everything down slowly and efficiently! And it's great how organized and interactive everything is! You're an amazing teacher! Also, one of my favorite parts is watching how excited you get when you teach! Keep up the good work sir! (:
Super helpful!!! Was struggling in chem 11 in summer school, this video really helped me clear things up. Thank you so much Tyler!
You have helped almost half a million people. Awesome job!
Very very very very good teacher god bless uu
And thanks uuuu sooooo much😭
When he starts giggling a lil' bit at, "My ride has hydrolics." I couldn't help but giggle, too.
Any ways, this pretty much saved me. He always makes sure to include every little step, and thoroughly explains each one and honestly it's just so helpful. Thanks a bunch!
Your hands on teaching method is exactly what I need! Life safer, thank yOU!
Thanks for the help my man, helps alot in AP Chem
Carlos Quiroz I'm taking AP chem this year and have been watching these videos for my summer assignment work. They are already helpful and I'm glad to know that they help with the course work as well.
AM I THE ONLY 13 YO HERE? LIKE WHATTTTT
THIS JUST SAVED MY LIFE THANK YOU
You clearly care about making chemistry about understanding! Thank you for all of your clear, concise explanations. These videos enable us to actually LEARN chemistry and NOT focus on senseless hours of memorization.
Tyler DeWitt is always so thorough with his videos. He makes them very easy to follow.
+Tyler DeWitt DUDE your memorization tool helps helps helps so so much. My rIDE has HYDRO l IC s, I ATE something ICky, sprITE is deliciOUS.
tytytytytytytytyvm. I read the book and wrote down the rules, but you're videos drive it home. TYTY
Bless your soul
You're probably the best teacher I've ever seen on youtube.
Thank you for what you do.
Oh man he's helpful, my teacher has recommended you for a study tool and I barely understand in class but here it feels like grade one science he made balancing and moles easy to remember to now I'm going to look at his chemical reaction types. Thank you Tyler!!!
great teacher- well done
isn't chromite CrO3 -2 ? Chromate is CrO4 -2 so is one less oxygen, please reply.
+RavingPlaylist No. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromite_(compound)
+Tyler DeWitt Thanks for clarifying, Didn't the reason for that formula really.
same here. I think for a long time from now I may still count chromite by taking one oxygen from CrO4 -2
You are really a life saver and a great teacher. Chemistry is not an easy subject and I appreciate your videos so much. THANK YOU!!!
Tyler, You are awesome. I had a horrible teacher who is all over the place, so basically your channel was my class time. If it wasn't for your videos, i would have hated chemistry forever. You saved me many times this semester. THANK YOU. Keep up the good work.
I love how his whole face lights up whenever he introduces the mnemonic device
when he brought out those sentences he was just so excited. that was cute 😂
So helpful, you explain things so much better than most teachers. I'd be doing terrible in chemistry without your videos, thank you so much!
Thank you Tyler Dewitt, You are a genius! Please continue the good work in making these videos to help others like myself understand chemistry .
He's handsome and smart wow
“It could be a Lemona GX” love it 😂
I never understood this concept until now, thank you so much for the time and effort put into your videos!!
I've always struggled with chemistry, especially with the naming aspect, but you make it soooooo easy! Thank you so much!
these videos are kinda getting long, like my arms
Tyler-Dewitts Arms lol nice name
lmao hahahahahah
I'm crying what is this
OH MY GOD WHY
Your son/daughter might be Einstein Jr since you're Einstein himself😂
Einstien was a physicist.
And you need to understand that you need physics to know how to teach.
Abdulrahman Adel no u don’t
I have CSEC chemistry exam on Monday and I'm doing it a year early in evening skl even though I've never really been good at it. These videos really help. You are a great teacher. Thank you.
Absolutely helpful! My chemistry teacher isn't the best at explaining this good, so I really appreciate this ! Thank you. You've helped me .
Your hands help me learn!
might be a leoma gxl LMAOOOO i died
+Mark Yakob i dont get it..
+xMrmegasexybeastx in a previous video he taught a lesson using an illustration that included the leoma gxl. its an inside joke.
Lemona! 😂
You are a very talented teacher!! You explained something in 13 minutes that I couldn’t grasp for hours. THANK YOU!!
@tylerdewitt I LOVE how excited you get with you pneumonic at the end! :)You're amazing. Seriously, many thanks.
9:50 I think I can know why he didn't make it "I ate something sticky"
I ate something sp(ic)y
Is way better than icky.

I am so thankful for these videos. I don't think I could pass chemistry without them!
Oh. My. Gosh. most helpful thing ever. Thanks so much for dedicating your time and energy to helping others understand chemistry. I am taking honors Chemistry this year and watching your videos has really helped me out. You are appreciated. Please continue to do this.
The hands are distracting.... kind of sucks because there is good info in your videos.
+Gabby Jerz Sucks for you I guess. Too bad.
Yea, that's what I said. But at the same time, what with the hands? Obviously, if you're pointing something out on the left-hand side, I see the reason. But when you're just talking... to me they don't add anything; they just flop around like fish out of water. You give fine lectures. I don't think you need to talk with your hands. But then again, I'm just one small being in the big CZcams sea. You do you. Best.
+Gabby Jerz I never know how to respond to comments like yours, because I don't know why you wanted to post it in the first place. Did you just wanna let me know you didn't like my videos? Did you want me to change them? To make them another way? Have you ever gone up to someone on the street and said "I really don't like your ugly outfit. That sucks because you'd be pretty otherwise." Your comment feels a bit like the digital equivalent. I don't know, comments like yours always frustrate me because there's literally nothing I can do to respond to them. I've already made the video and I always talk with my hands. That's who I am. So whether you mean it or not, your comment just feels like an intentional insult. It's like telling someone, "Your skirt is ugly. Just thought you should know."
+Tyler DeWitt your videos are awesome :) just disregard her comment 🙂
Your Videos are Fantastic! Perfect even. So well presented. Your hands are not distracting to me at all. Don't change anything...You're doing a great job and service. Thanks so much.
tyler you have helped me so much this year in chemisty, I would like to thank you so much for these short lessons. any class that I did not understand I just think "it's ok I can go watch a tyler DeWitt video"!
you teach better than my teacher (Who has a PhD and a doctorate)! You have helped me so much! I am struggling in chemistry but with these videos... I can learn and do practice problems and see the answers. Thanks Tyler!
My chem exam is today and I am still iffy on naming the acids with oxygen. This MAKES SENSE! I kept getting tripped up on balancing the charge to find out the name. Super helpful! I wish I watched this a week ago!
Thank you for your informative video! They really helped me understand chemistry so much better! Thank you so much! Keep making awesome videos!
These videos are fantastic! They accommodate any learning pace and are straightforward. Thank you:)
Thanks for the vid. Have midterm today and watching all your videos really help me understand chemistry. We have limited time at school to learn chemistry once a week and it was so hard to catch up....Good thing I found your videos and all your videos and explanation of each topic is amazing. Thanks again!
THANK YOU! I'm taking Chemistry 30 as an adult and I was so confused until I found your videos, great job! :)
Thank-you. I would never find another chemistry teacher like you. There is only one Tyler DeWitt.
Thank you very much Tyler, I am so grateful for finding your youtube channel. You are the best!
Holy Cow! You just explained everything that my professor and ALEKS couldn't. Following and decoted now!
Thank you so much Tyler. I have been using most of your videos so far. You made my job as a teacher easier.
You are a MOST wonderful teacher Mr. DeWitt. You should by now be a professor. Thank you!!!
Finding your videos is the best thing that has happened to me in the past month
I love this video Tyler! Helped so much. I also like your style of videos with the hands and the paper. (Helps direct where to look) Overall great content
Shared this with my TA and he told all of his other classes. So helpful!
