  • I made a small carnivorous mini bog for some of my extra plants. This one has many Drosera species. Drosera Groamagolensis, Drosera Capensis and Emerald Envy. It was pretty fun to makes this mini bog.

    • @bethlovesthings
      @bethlovesthings Před 2 lety +2

      @@TechplantChannel yes! You can find them on bush walks and if you travel a few hours South (I'm in Perth), you can do tours to find Nepenthes & a wide range of native plants! I really need to do that. Obviously you can't (read: absolutely shouldn't) take plants from the wild (but unfortunately people do & have actually put the Albany pitcher plant at risk 😔) - but we do have local growers who offer a wide range to buy. All ethically sourced/propagated. 😊 I definitely want to try this project now.

      @@bethlovesthings I believe you're referring to cephalotus! Unfortunate that they get picked off in the wild when that variety can be found readily from nurseries.

    An aquarium tank also works great for making a bog, as long as you leave it with a mesh lid or no lid. I have a ten gallon sphagnum bog tank myself and it works great, the bottom inch of the tank is filled with gravel and I keep the water level all the way up to the top of the gravel so the sphagnum can wick it right up. The sphagnum grows so fast it swallowed up all my plants and I have to trim it back regularly now.

    I never knew what these were actually called, the store just called them octopus plants but I just pulled mine out from my grow-lights 2 days ago as they began browning even with ample water. It may be due to the length of time I kept the lights on for for them but not entirely sure tbh. Can’t wait to see how yours turn out, hopefully you can tell me where mine went wrong. 🙏🏽
    Backstory: I started with one plant about 3 or 4 years ago, our window faces North and it’s has multiplied to now 9 plants and we’ve just kept them in 3” pots spread out into three of them. Each pot has tall stems of flowers. • for the scenario above I only put one of the three pots under the grow light.
