Another alternative to headers would be getting higher numerical rear differential gears. Many C4 automatics use 2:56 gears. Changing them to 3:07 gears makes a nice difference in performance. Replacing with 3:42 rear gears used in manual C4's make even a more dramatic difference.

I have no headers but did 2.5 exuast back from stock headers into an x pipe into flo master mufflers. Wonder if i got similar numbers in gains as u did..?

Did you order headers through Michels Performance?

How is the fitment of the American Racing headers? Any issues during the install?

It's a bit of a job when it comes to taking the stock manifolds off. They're so much more bulky than the headers. Biggest issue I remember is the driver side converter. On the passenger side the two bolt for the converters mounting bracket are reachable with and can be removed with a gear wrench. However the driver side is 3 bolt and none of them are easily accessible without dropping the transmission or other major removal, I don't know exactly what would need to be done because I just took a plasma cutter to the bracket lol. Once that's out of the way the header go in pretty easy from the bottom of the car, even enough clearance with a Canton road race oil pan. After that fitting the rest of the piping and takes some persuasion, but a little heat on the overlapping pipe end and a mallet with a block of wood it goes together without too much of an issue.

Did you do long tubes? And why didn't you have it tuned? Tuning it is where the extra HP comes from after doing the headers.

Not many people tune our cars anymore. I had to learn and do everything my self with a aldl and laptop with tunerpro and tunercat. When i installed my headers i had added 4* of timing across the entire board and have no detonation it fersure seems a little meaner and cleaned up the smelly idle. You could also do a 0411 LS pcm swap by repinning the connectors and then you can utilize better software like hptuners etc.

Yes they are long tube, and we didn't do a tune specifically to document if there was a difference. So, in short science.

@ebk bk that's unfortunate!! I know of 3 places within 20 minutes of driving to get mine turned! I actually haven't done it yet because I just got it running correctly. The next step is a hypertech stage 2 chip and a dyno tune. I've done quite a bit and definitely need it tuned.
