Sultans of Swing is a must if you like dire straits. Mark Knoffler absolutely incredible
That would’ve been my preferred Dire Straits
I agree
Their Guitarist,Mark Knopfler studied under Chet Atkins aka "Mr. Guitar". That's probably why he fingerpicks instead of using a regular guitar pick.
@@bobr4987 I knew I spelled it wrong. Lol. He’s still one of my favorites. Him and Chet Atkins playing instrumental “Imagine” is one of the greatest performances.
The Live version, please.
Well I'm surprised that Walk Of Life would be suggested first but you have no idea the sheer scope of this bands musical proficiency until you listen to their song Sultans of Swing. Absolute mood of a song.
Also a story, which I know Amber likes.
Azzz ssßsßßßasaaàsssàßaas I 5 Rd and
The Wembly version with Clapton is one off the best life versions IMO
"Walk of Life" is a great, fun song. "Brothers in Arms" is deep and soulful.
Brothers in Arms is an amazing song. Intense but so beautiful. Been on my play list since it came out.
yeah I was gonna say brothers in arms, or telegraph road
Yes! Yes! Yes! Love that song! So powerful.
Fucking hell.. I really love dire straits... They really are something else
Brothers in Arms one of the most Haunting songs ever used in Miami Vice from the episode Out Where The Buses Don't Run.
Without a doubt, don’t care who you are, the upbeat tempo of this song will get everyone’s toes tapping. Such a happy song.
Mark Knopler is a tremendous tremendous guitarist
Knopfler is a great guitarist. Very underrated, like Lindsay Buckingham
Mark Knopler and Lindsey Buckingham are the only ones I know who play like this. Completely amazing!
1. Sultans of swing but Live!! 2. Lindsey Buckingham BIG LOVE solo Live. 3. Try with a little help from My friends JOE COCKER again live..!
@@neillenet291 and both fingerstyle players.
@@tangointhenightband869 - Yes, Big Love is blow-you-away guitar playing.
Their biggest song and video was Money For Nothing.
That should be on your 'to do' list
YES!!
FOR SURE !!!
I 4th the emotion! The official music video version.
Facts
If it wasn't for "Money for Nothing" MTV wouldn't have been as big.
Their song “Brothers in Arms” would have been great for Memorial Day. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
“Sultans of Swing”, “Money for Nothing” “Romeo and Juliet” are others to hear.
“Money For Nothing”.....really sums what was going on during the 80’s MTV movement.
Try Sultans of Swing alchemy live.
Yep. THIS.
Yes 🥰
Absolutely, yes, yes. you will be knocked out
No. First the Album version and then live
Then "Telegraph Road" from _Alchemy_
I HIGHLY recommend Telegraph Road, Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, and Tunnel of Love.
I saw them in 1983, and to this day, they are my favorite concert ever. After watching 3 hours of Mark Knopfler play extended solos and guitar magic on nearly every song, to me he will always be the best guitarist of all. Notice he plays with his fingers. Despite that, he is even better at his songwriting, many of his songs being long extended stories.
I’m older now and am loving the older Mark’s new music. So many songs, mostly written by him, very personal, many about historical moments. He’s been touring on his own for years. He’s still my favorite singer/songwriter and guitar plucker.
@@sundayze I’m also loving all his older solo stuff! Such a songwriter.
@NOLAgame Listening to “Lights of Taormina” as I write this. And so many more gems, like Sailing to Philadelphia, Wherever I Go, Postcards from Paraguay, Our Shangri-La, Going Home and on and on. I just burned some of his albums to thumb drive for my car. Nothing better to listen to on a long drive. 😎
At the odeon?
I worked all 6 shows there, and they blew everyone away, including us hard bitten security.
Seen them several times since, always great.
YES!!! Romeo and Juliet
Mark Knopfler was one of the organizers of Live Aid in 1985 - one of the first, most successful, charity concerts ever.
The Concert for Bangladesh has entered the chat.
One of the absolute best groups, singer, and music ever. And you'll never run out of great stuff with them
Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" Live Alchemy is Fire...Must see
Yes, yes, yes!
"Sultans of Swing" really is the _must_ song for Dire Straits; "Tunnel of Love" is my fave. Mark Knopfler is a ripping guitarist.
I love their songs “So Far Away” and “Romeo and Juliet”
"Romeo and Juliet" is my favourite.
Should be everyone's alarm! Wake up to this in the morning!
Great one Guys! Check out Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing" Alchemy Live version!!!!
If you've ever seen the movie " The Princess Bride" you've heard Mark. He wrote the soundtrack😁👍
And for the movie "Local Hero".
I walked down to the instrumental version and we walked out to the lyrics version. We still tear up every time we hear it.
@@billkant849 As far as I know, the only people who've seen it are you & me... LOL! ( I REALLY enjoyed it, BTW- especially that 'mermaid' thing at the end- so delightful! )
He also wrote "Private Dancer" for Tina Turner
And the theme from Local Hero - Going Home
This song never fails to make my day everytime I hear it..
Such a good mood song..
“Sultans of Swing” is an absolute must!
Sultans of Swing 🔥
This song is about a street performer in the subway tunnels. He turns the darkness into day. He sings a song about the knife. He keeps staying positive.
Yes, the original UK video for this makes more sense as it's about the lyrics. Sadly, it rarely gets shown, instead the US version with the unrelated footage of American sports gets played. Dire Straits have finally posted the HQ version of the original UK video on their YT page too.
Honestly, treat yourself to Brothers in Arms. You won't find a more haunting guitar anywhere. He makes that thing sing in its own right. Absolutely stunning.
Romeo And Juliet is a must for a reaction, Dire Straits best song in my opinion
"After all the violence and double talk, there's just a song in the trouble and the strife. You do the walk, you do the walk of life." That's the song's core right there...so she got it right. If you must cross the thin ice, why not do it with a dance? That's kinda the vibe. If you're going to the gallows, flip a penny to the hangman, give a jest to the crowd, and die with a smile on your lips. Or keep walking through...maybe the gallows isn't your stop. We don't know until we get there....so keep walkin.
Wow, Scott....so well expressed mate...I don't usually find poetry in youtube comments..I'm just sorry I'll never know you
@@ferney2936 Damn. Thanks! I wax poetic every so often. Life appears absurd and truth seems paradoxical. But, I've become a litle Taoist in my old age, and see the subtle harmonies of it. Or try to, I don't think we, as mere humans, can grasp the whole thing at once...but the pieces I can see are lovely. I find it in popular songs, sometimes, even! Always be ready for beauty. It may surpirse you.
Rob....ROB....YOU MUST LISTEN TO THE ALCHEMY LIVE VERSION OF:
SULTANS OF SWING....AND
TELEGRAPH ROAD! SERIOUSLY!
probably the best live performance ever - incredible !!
Telegraph road is a masterpiece. I'll leave that there.
Telegraph Road is loosely about the growth and decline of Detroit and is a work of genius. See also Lady Writer, Lover over Gold, Communique....to be honest the list is endless for me.
Two best live performances, other than some classical performances I’ve seen.
Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitar players of all time.
Definitely top 5 in my book, anyways. "Sultans of Swing" is probably their signature tune.
Peace!
Captain obvious lol
Mark finger picks and makes the guitar talk and weep! "Brothers in arms" by them is awesome!
Other songs by Dire Straits - Once Upon A Time In The West, Romeo And Juliet, Telegraph Road, Industrial Disease, Tunnel Of Love.
All of the above!
Heavy Fuel!!!
Romeo and Juliet is my favorite Dire Straits tune, but you can't go wrong with any of the others...
I just love that we’ve introduced you to such great music!!!!
Love Dire Straits...soo many great songs.
Great Video!!!
Thanks guys for another great Reaction!!
The most underrated guitarist is in Dire Straights. The man can absolutely play.
It makes me so happy to see folks from a younger generation so genuinely enjoying music that is meaningful to me.
I agree.
Mark Knofler is one of the greatest writers & performers, period.
The list of his songs is endless.
🌻
I love you two, you're so cute! I look forward to your reactions. There's so much amazing music in this world. Enjoy the journey.
Love this song and Sultans of Swing! Thanks guys for another great video!
Sultans of Swing and Money For Nothing are both awesome Dire Straights songs.
There is no 'walk of life' without music. Great reaction!
Fabulous band! Danced many hours to these guys ... so many fan songs to get acquainted with 🥰👍
I just found you guys about a week ago. I love everything that you do. About this song. The Dire Straits is my daddy’s favorite band, & I am the ultimate daddy’s girl. When I was probably 7-8 years old, we made up our own dance to this song. This was almost 40 years ago, so I do not remember the dance at all, but I remember the fun of it. Now, as an adult, & understanding the meaning behind it, i now realize that it fits the circumstances between my dad & myself just perfectly. He is currently away for a few years, (a situation I never dreamed we would be in), and I miss him so terribly. This song always makes me laugh & cry at the same time. But it fits. We are all most certainly doing the “Walk of Life” every single day, & I cannot wait to turn THIS nighttime into day again. Thank you for showing me that this song had more meaning to me than I ever realized!! I love you guys!!!
Sultans of Swing is a definite must. An absolute classic.
One of their greatest songs, and dynamite video! I absolutely love the lead guitar in this one. Your taste in music is strikingly similar to mine.
I formed my first band in 1972 when I was in Jr High. We listened to Grand Funk Railroad...Black Sabbath...Steppenwolf..Rock was a cry out for justice. Music today has lost it's soul. Thank you for sharing my music with your generation. You guys rock!
funny- it was about the band, playing as a team, good with the bad, comparing themself to being in sports. from their early day to playing on TV. They are the Sultans of Swing.
Hey! You dig piano? Try "Bruce Hornsby And The Range" and a good place to start is "The Way It Is".
Dire straits “Industrial Disease” is my personal favorite but the have list of great songs mentioned previously! 🤘😎✌️
Yeah, I like that one too. But in fairness I have to admit "Sultans of Swing" is probably their classic, must hear, even if I don't personally like it as much as "Industrial Disease", which was only a mild hit.
That song is a big favorite of mine too.
"Two men say they're Jesus, one of them must be wrong" is one of my favorite lyrics.
This is 1 of my top favorite albums! Every song is great!
What a bop! One of my all-time favorites! Thanks for the great reaction :) Mark Knoffler did an album with guitar legend from another era Chet Atkins.
Alchemy live recording is probably one of the best live concert recordings in history - it is phenomenal ! it will blow your mind if you like watch rock maestros at the top of their profession ! it's that good !!
If you dont listen to "Sultans of Swing" you cant appreciate this band fully. They had so many great songs and the lead singer and guitarist is in the top 4 guitarist i have ever heard.
I love this site! Bringing people together one song at a time Thank you so much
so fun to watch this with you. Forgot how great a song and video it is!!!
Great reaction again! One of the first songs I have ever heard from these guys is a song called Skateaway. It's definitely a deep cut banger and not too many people have reacted to this song. Hope you give it a try.
I love Dire Straights, Mark Knoffer is one of the best song writer/guitars ever. His guitar playing is unique and even haunting. He wrote a song called Brothers in Arms. It will pull at every emotion you have. Many believe it is the best song of the rock era. When I listen to Bros in Arms I feel every chord he plays. I can only describe it as the guaitar sings and Mark narrates the words. Mark Knoffler is truly a great guitarist ranked with, Clapton, Beck, & Stevie Ray Vaughn. They are virtuosos with different styles. Never underestimate Knofflers talent.
Nailed it .. the ups and downs .. the Walk of Life. Feel good song for sure!
One of the great feel good songs. Love it. 💟
Sultans of Swing is a definite must. Highly recommend that you first react to the studio version before moving on to the alchemy live performance. Pay close attention to lead singer Mark Knopfler's guitar playing and wait till you notice what he does, that virtually no one else does apart from some acoustic, folk and country musicians and even than typically a technique used for specific songs, rarely is it any artists go to standard of playing. Oh wow can't wait to see your reactions when you notice =)!!!
I'm not a huge Dire Straits fan, but I remember when the Brothers in Arms cd came out it was huge. "Money for Nothing," Walk of Life," and "So Far Away" were on the radio a lot. I loved the songs "Your Latest Trick," and "Brothers in Arms" off of the same cd, but you didn't hear them played much. As many people are saying, their older song, "Sultans of Swing," was a fairly large hit also. Other than those songs, they don't seem to be very mainstream music. They are the kind of band that if you get into, you can find plenty of music to like from them, but it's not going to come to you. You have to search for it.
Thank you so much for doing this one!
Cuando escuche esta canción por primera vez..... Sentí que podía con todo el mundo! Animo, energía y dedicación 💪 la vieja escuela te recuerda que es posible luchar contra un huracán si es posible, para alcanzar tus sueños!
Dire Straits
The Bug
Sultan of Swing
Money for Nothing
Would be some starters
Mark Knopfler is in the top 10 greatest guitarists of all time. "Your Latest Trick" is my favorite Dire Straits tune.
This song is instant happiness for me, such a mood raiser!
Hey, hello...you two are so infectious in terms of your enthusiasm for music I grew up with (born in "52") now retired and watchin on you!!! I have been taken aback by your reactions and I caught this infection...from the ressurection of the old school vibes you entertain me with. I would definately be wantin to hang out with you guys...you put me in my place ( back to the early days) so in return for your love I plan to be investigatin and evaluatin and appreciatin some RAP AND HIP HOP...AND OF COURSE RYTHEM AND BLUES...to share in this quest for a well rounded understanding and love for all musical art forms. You make me laugh and cry...why? Because you are such beautiful people with open hearts and open minds. Thank you you are my kindred spirits and I visit you every day to get a dose of this love and my heart burns with anticipation of what gifts you have for me each day..so in reality you got me infected just now I've detected...it's not a disease cuz you gave me the keys to open new doors and so I will be with you on your awesome journey. YOU ARE MY CURE SO I GOTTA CHECK IN EVERY DAY AND TAKE MY MEDICINE...PEACE LOVE AND ALL OF THE ABOVE GOTTA HAVE MORE LOVE. Doctors of love are you. ☮🎶👁✌
Please do "Sultans Of Swing" (Alchemy Live version). Great guitar solo as leader M. Knopfler is a genuine virtuoso, yet it is the DRUMMER that steals the show. Story tells that on that night, Terry's dad (drummer's name) was at the audience to see his son performing onstage , for the first time ever. Terry did not disappointed him. And nobody else.
'So Far Away from Me' is a good one too.
Less popular but its good.
Back when you could have fun.at a ball game.
Welcome aboard! Another great band from my youth. Also, the lead singer/guitarist Mark Knopfler has many solo albums that are awesome.
this whole album is 🔥🔥. a MUST HEAR, bucket list, musical tour de force.
"Love Over Gold"
"Brothers In Arms"
'On Every Street"
"Sultans of Swing"
"On Every Street" is the last Dire Straits classic song.
Private investigations?
If you guys like story telling and great/unique vocals, check out Bob Seger = "Night Moves," "Hollywood Nights," "Mainstreet" "Shame on the Moon." Hell, all his music is great! Thanks Guys.
TURN THE PAGE 👍😉🤗🙏🌍✌️🇺🇸
As a sports fan, I absolutely loved this music video when it came out. Seeing MJ with that iconic dunk was great plus seeing Roger Craig score that winning TD in the Super Bowl. Loved it!!
Sultans of swing and So far away. Also I love your channel keep up the great work.
This is no way the Dire Straits song to start with. You need to do the live version of Sultans of Swing from the Alchemy live album. Follow that up with Money For Nothing and Romeo And Juliet!
This is just a hint of the talent this band has.
All the bands you have shown are super great !!!! But there is one band you have missed that's Carlos Santana which I must admit back in the day
With Hanricks ,,,Beatles,,,Rolling Stones was my one of the best
I love this video with all of the plays and bloopers 😆 ❤️
"Sultans of swing" one of the best but they have such wide range wooow. I was a huge fan when they were on all the charts. Bought every record. Play more of this fabulous band! Big hugs to you cuties!
'Wild West End' find T4Ad_J_2l0w Special for me is the guitar work by Mark Knopfler (Rolling Stone ranked him 27th in top 100 greatest guitarists of all time and 'Offthetracks ranks him #8, while guitar world ranks him #12... Let's just say he's damn good! :) . He is a Fender Stratocaster (among many) electric guitar player who... Get this... finger picks (very unusual) and it adds a dynamic to the lead guitar that you don't get elsewhere! The tunes Dire Straits plays are mostly rock with a bluesy, folksy, with a 'swung' rhythm (google 'swing rhythms' to know what to listen for...). Dire Straits is about each song... The leads and drum work is stellar, but it's about the whole package. Depending on what I'm in the mood for, I'd say my 3 favorite groups are Dire Straits, The Eagles and Journey followed closely by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Please do 'Wild West End' and zero in on those lyrics... They remind me of a friend I lost many years ago in the fondest of ways! :) Oh! And other tunes that aren't reacted to by Dire Straits much... 'Six Blade Knife', 'Water of Love' and 'So Far Away'. The classics are a must hear ('Sultans of Swing', Brothers in Arms' & 'Money for Nothing'), but these others are, as you would say... "Fire!". :)
Dire straits is odd in the respect that they have one of the best selling albums of all times (Brothers in Arms) and the lead singer is generally considered one of the Best Guitarists Ever, and despite that have been forgotten.
This is actually the 2nd video for this song, made for the US market... the original video matched the song more, and was literally about a guy in the tubes (London Underground) busking, and singing classic songs. If you go through they lyrics carefully, you may be able to work out what songs were being referenced.
One of the best British bands ever,,,, God bless guys.
This video cracked me up the first time I saw it. It's reminds me of when something bad happens to you and then someone says, "Years from now, you'll be laughing at this." I just love sports bloopers!
Definately sultans of swing and money for nothin are a must listen to.
I generally don’t care for a ton of 80s rock. Dire straits is the exception. They’re phenomenal. Romeo and Juliet is a good one that probably won’t get much love. Sultans of swing and money for nothing are both must-listens for them.
i told my hubby i want this played at my funeral, its so peppey and one of my fav songs, makes your feet move and makes you happy, love love love Mark Knoffler, hes the main thang,
You should listen to sultans of swing!
you gotta check out Meatloaf "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"
Every reactor reacts to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light. With good reason. I think you guys will like it.
Such a great group, they are some of the sound tracks to my 80’s life.🌎🤞
hey again from baltimore. love the new format !
Any time I ever saw them play Mark knopfler performed barefooted. Just a little trivia there.
Song should have been Sultans of Swing but this one is ok.....
@Gerald H Yeah....this is an odd one to use as an introduction to the band
Sultans of Swing definitely shows their massive talent much better. Mark Knoffler is one of the greatest guitarists ever.
Thank you for sharing classic rock with younger generations.
Sultans Of Swing live will change your lives !!!! It`s a must. Great reaction and hi from Ireland.
Big in the 80s very diverse musically. A little politically incorrect at times but 80s were 80s
Yeah but we were never freaked out like that, you could play or you couldn’t play, you could sing or you couldn’t sing, People are people 👍. 🙏🌍✌️🇺🇸
Where was Dire Straits "politically incorrect at times"?
Nature and Physics we didn’t do PC, so I don’t know how they can be PC, if there was no PC?!?🤷🏻♀️. 🎼
Sultans of Swing has many different sounds ( I know you like that in a song ) , Money for Nothing is fire ( homophobic slur warning )
Most copies of that track readily available today have that verse cut out, unfortunately, because it was horribly misunderstood and misinterpreted.
Mark isn't calling someone that slur. The song is written from the point of view as a common moving man laborer.
Great video Great reaction You guys are awesome.
👍
Keep hitting this album, one of my all time favorites from them. I was 19 when it came out and my buddy and I got tickets to go see it. What an absolute killer performance. They ended the concert with The Sultans Of Swing, not on this album, but I’d say Mark Knopfler’s best song ever.
Nice reaction, dire straits are one of my fav bands.
Your comment 'I like this cos it has all the sports' - rest of the world is like LOL
I remember as a child when this song was on the radio, and sometimes on tv with that exact video. Back then i didn't speak english, didn't know what the lyrics where about. But the video and how the song sounded always felt uplifting. Even today decades later, when a day was bad, and by chance they play this on the radio, life gets better for me!
Absolutely a great song !
Always one of my favorite videos growing up! Thanks for reacting!
("Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai is probably my 2nd favorite video)
The song is a metaphor - your explanation about the ups and downs of life is spot on.
