    Coming in late to the party, but I'm loving this series! I bought some starter decks and Jabba's Palace packs back in the day but never had anyone to play with. I recently pulled out my starter decks and got my oldest son interested. This series is amazing as it's not only showing me some amazing cards, but it's giving me rules clarifications! I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the series and hope to catch this live one day. Keep up the amazing work!

    35:16 Major Derlin was played by Jon Ratzenberger, who also played Cliff in the TV show Cheers. Hints the "everyone knows his name" flavor text.

    I love this set. You can really set it up to build two competing decks that almost make feel like a board game! Great video! My mom wouldn't allow Magic cards when I was in 5th grade (circa '95) but would pay for as many SWCCG cards! My first true hobby game and still playing with my brother today!

    Hey Zack I did what you have been wanting to do after this series is made theme decks with all the cards from my collection. It was a blast to do and can't wait to get them on the table and try them out.

    watching this series a whole year later...i can't get enough. My friend and i bought about 4000 cards from ebay from various lots and put together some kitchen table decks and had a blast..looking forward to busting those out again sometime. also just bought a bunch of Wars CCG boxes to open since they are so cheap right now on Ebay, looking forward to cracking packs.

      Also, as a follow up. I am learning so much about the game with this progression series...my friend and i went head first without seeing much gameplay and watching how this game played out over time and seeing things introduced gradually is the 100% way to go.

    Dark side cards have a solid, darker, color and light side have lighter colors and it's textured. Put a light side and a dark side card of each type next to each other and you'll quickly see the difference in their coloring. Locations are the ones you'll still need to check the back though, lol.

    3:02:06 My heart sank. You could have forfeited a character 'piloting' the crashed AT-AT if you wanted to. They do not count their ability toward drawing destiny but they are considered passengers occupying the pilot seat and CAN be forfeited against your battle damage. I do love this series.

    You were asking about how many characters you should. This comes down to what kind of deck you’re playing. Typically they are split on a spectrum of “space only - ground only”. In a “ground only” deck you’d have a large number of characters, vehicles and ground sites and few (if any) ships. So if you were putting together a ground hot deck you’d have a large portion of your deck as characters (prob 1\3 to 1/2)) that you wouldn’t in a space-heavy build. Of course it’s a spectrum between those two extremes. It’s probably more “fun” to put together a balanced deck, although perhaps not the optimal construction. When you’re putting together your deck I think it’s easier to think about what theatres you’re fighting in and then tailor the character count.

    watching from Mass. I collected the game back in the late 90s but no one in the area that played and couldn’t convince any of my cousins to play ☹. I wasn’t as creative or knowledgeable at the time so it basically became a collection that I stopped collecting. This series has resparked my interest. I wasn’t able to dig up my old cards but I’ve been grabbing up cheap(er-ish) lots, boosters, etc… and working on a solo mode.

    I know you don't like the idea of printing cards but I think doing a series where you play the Demo Decks and their upgrades would be amazing. I'm wanting to get my wife into the game and those are all we have right now. It's also probably going to be a lot of people's first experience with the game.
    Thanks for doing this series
    *edit*
    Also the demo decks are extremely fun to play, named characters everywhere!

    This was my first ccg i collected and a big part of my youth - while being complex this game creates moments that are otherwise only possible in a tabletop game or board game. The sheer amount of possibilitys also create replayability like no other game unlike the more modern approach to card games where a matchup between two decks will often result in similar matches. The thing is that this game sacrifices approachability and also the need for constant new cards wich is bad from a buiseness perspective making it so unlikely to have similar games in modern times but i would back it at an instant if this gets a kickstarter again or something. Also the virtual cards are pretty good and keep the game alive

    I love that you guys did this! I am a huge Star Wars and Star Wars CCG fan! I am watching through your entire series now on CZcams as I have just rediscovered my old card collection!
    I am watching from my home in NY and started your series from the beginning. I usually throw it on while I am sitting with my newborn son in the middle of the night!
    I was in high school when this game was new and I had one friend who was into the game and we used to play all the time. You guys have actually clarified some of the rules I was confused about back in the day which is great!

I haven’t played since then, but every so often I find my cards and decide to buy a few more. Stacked prices are making it a little difficult to fill in the gaps these days, but last time I did purchase in bulk I got my hands on Tatooine and Theed booster boxes.
    I also just found a great site that sells CCG, TCG and other similar cards and ordered a complete set of common/uncommon Jabba’s Palace for a very reasonable price. Waiting to see how they come before I try ordering more from them.
    I’m hoping I can catch up to you guys before you finish all of your live streams! MTFBWY!

    A bit late to the party but tuning in from Hungary. Seeing what all the rage was when I was still in diapers. This game is... Both the best cardgame ever and I would never touch it with a 10ft pole. The dwarf fortress of card games is my best analogy.

    I'm watching from the Netherlands. I started playing and collecting the game around the time Hoth was out when i was a around 11 years old. For a few years i was even the youngest ranked dutch player around. i played it till decipher lost their rights and the player base i used to play with fall apart. i continued completing my collection until i went to university 15 years ago. I retrieved my collection from my parents house a month ago when i was finally able to see them due to the pandemic. now i am slowly getting myself reacquainted with the cards and what has been happening with the game under the star wars players committee.

  • @mopanda81
    @mopanda81 Před 3 lety

    It's really interesting seeing this game this way, Hoth was definitely one of the best tied together sets in terms of clear synergy so collecting even a few packs at a time I ended up with some (but by no means all) of the pieces required to have a "Hoth like game". (3 AT-AT canons and 0 AT-ATs excepted). But that was still always the problem it wasn't as much a collectible cardgame as a "collectible boardgame" looking back I feel like if they sold people on a box at a time the game wouldn't have been nearly as confusing.

    Easy to forget, but Solo was hit with the probe droid weapon in your first battle. So he was supposed to be discarded at the end of battle or moved to the Bacta Tank and retrieved on a following turn by paying force.
    Just something to remember next time. But great game as always. :)

    • @st1cks278
      @st1cks278 Před 3 lety +3

      Solo wasn't hit though, destiny draw was 3, and Han's ability is 3, probe droid weapon only hits if destiny > defense value

  • @christianlye-knudsen5811
    @christianlye-knudsen5811 Před 3 lety +4

    Not sure if you missed it in the chat, but you didn't have to pay 2 Force to fire the AT-AT Cannon at the Main Power Generators, so you could actually have blown them up!

    • @zachbunn
      @zachbunn Před 3 lety +2

      Oh no, that’s devastating! Why wouldn’t I have to pay to fire it? I was on the verge of greatness... I was “ “ this close!

    • @christianlye-knudsen5811
      @christianlye-knudsen5811 Před 3 lety +3

      You were using the Epic Event card to 'fire' the AT-AT Cannon, which doesn't state a cost. (Consider that nothing on the AT-AT Cannon says you can use 2 Force to fire it at the MPG.)
      EDIT: I'm actually looking at the errata'ed version of the card, which makes it more clear. I can totally see how the original text could make it seem like you have to pay 2!

    The way I see is that that one player may be on Dagobah trying to keep Yoda from smacking R2 and eating their lunch, while the other player is flying around in their ships out in space, but each of those things is somehow integral to the overall events of Star Wars, even if each player isn't directly fighting the other.
    It makes a bit more sense than the Star Wars LCG I suppose, where you could be potentially using an Ewok deck against Palpatine.
