The dland ca locals use the park more like a casual club. The Wdw tourists are “on a mission “ to tackle the vast resort. So more arduous. It seems like neither group is as stylish as the Japanese local tourist.
Wonderful to see the creative outfits.

I love the advice to just relax and allow yourself to get lost. I remember, after my first trip to tokyo Disney, I went in completely the opposite direction to get home. But it's not a big deal at all. Just get off, head to the other side and get on another train going in the other direction. You only get charged for the distance between where you enter and exit, so you can go the wrong way as much as you want so long as you don't leave the station. 😂😂

Jen - DisneySEA actually sits on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. That is part of the work that the parent company, The Oriental Land Company (OLC) does. They dredge and basically create new land. There are several spots on board the Columbia (the big steamship - which is actually just a large show building) where, if you stand correctly you cannot see the border road or monorail below and it feels like you actually could sail out to sea.

Also, Turtle Talk is in the stern of the SS Columbia, not in Mermaid Lagoon.

Tokyo replicated a lot of Disneyland rides but with new theming (e.g., Marine Institute ride and Star Tours). The Voyage of Sindbad is DisneySea's version of It's A Small World (but with more of a story). It's an adaptation of the 7 Voyages of Sinbad, where Sinbad and his pet tiger cub Chandu explore, stop bad guys, save a Jinni, and dance with a monkey band. Like Small World, the song is an ear worm. It's worth looking for Chandu in each scene/room.

    • @chrishintz1077

I’ve read that the OLC wanted an exact copy of the stateside parks, but it looks like they got a mashup of both dland and Wdw’s mk. Also appears they added their own takes on some of the rides. It’s the first I’ve seen of a pirate ride starting in a formal type of drawing room. I don’t quite get that theming. What’s the story there? Anyway, were you thinking of Paul Frees voice? Or perhaps X Atencio?

I'm a huge Disney fan (live in Calif) but this park is so unique- really special to Japan. The attention to detail, the extensive themed lands- just amazing. That steam ship Columbia- Looks just like Queen Mary (docked here in Ca at Long Beach) and I couldn't believe when I read they built it just for the park with so much detail!! Oh, and that "Sinbad" ride is something I'm really looking forward to. It's a musical set to the story of Sinbad from "Tales of the Arabian Nights" with music by Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc.) with some of the most amazing animatronics! It's kind of sad to think that DisneySea was based on plans for a park in Long Beach, California that was scrapped due to environmental concerns (and instead we got DCA, sadly). That giant cruise ship in DisneySea is a nod to the Queen Mary whichis dry docked at that parcel of land in Long Beach and was to be a part of the park. It's amazing that Tokyo built a fake cruise liner and stayed true to the original plans.

It's not really coincidence that the entrance might remind you of Universal Islands of Adventure (or really Portofino Bay hotel since they were based on the same part of Italy). Both parks were being designed around the same time and Universal took a lot of talented Imagineers that Disney had let go after Disneyland Paris didn't meet expectations...hence we see similar things coming out, a Sinbad/Sindbad attraction, the italian themed hotel and other things, like a dragon coaster planned for Animal Kingdom but Islands of Adventure got one (well, technically two, but way different) instead. The New York area of DisneySea is supposed to be closer to 1910's 1920's era (obviously showing a world war 2 era US would be odd in Japan). Otherwise, cool you got to visit IMO the best theme park in the world, can't wait til the 3 new lands open next year.

Right I agree odd and yet the Big Band influence is unmistakable (and entire show and the music around that theater) so no getting around it and YES very odd. And yes I'm fairly up to date on US history so do know when Teddy Roosevelt was president;). Not disagreeing with you about the intent of the era for the ship and surrounding areas but saying I wasn't speaking of that I was referring to the Big Band theater and show.

I thought you were saying Disney C, because it was the third park location, but it's not, is it? Or is it?
We were at Universal Studios Florida this weekend, mainly to enjoy Poseidon's Fury one last time, it closes May 9, yes, I'm devastated, anyhoo, in that attraction, Poseidon's Fury, that is, there's a tunnel of water and when the Japanese group that surrounded us saw that, they were so excited! Made me doubly happy and sad at the same time. Taylor did an excellent job as our tour guide, too. And when we rode The Mummy the Japanese group, again, rode with us and they screamed so loudly and had a blast. I hope you were as entertaining in their homeland as they were in ours. Totally enjoyed seeing it all through their eyes. I swear we weren't stalking them! 😅😂😅

All tour guides for the Poseidon attraction are named Taylor and I've never had one that wasn't delightful. FYI ❤❤❤

Robin - The park is officially called Tokyo DisneySEA. The "sea" part actually has two meanings. Firstly we have Tokyo Disneyland, next door. Land, sea - get it? All the lands in this second park are based around harbors, lagoons, bays, deltas, waterfronts and so on. All water based. Secondly, the "SEA" part of "DisneySEA" is actually an acronym. It actually stands for the "Society of Explorers and Adventurers" S.E.A. The SEA is a secret group that (fictionally) stretches back to Leonardo DaVinci and Galileo. It includes all the dreamers and the people who tried to make our world a better place - the people who saw the wonder in the mundane. At the center of this park and unfortunately for Jen, covered in refurb scaffolding is the SEA Fortress - a place where these historical figures used to meet, share ideas, do experiments and also eat. The "SEA" concept has in fact invaded most Disney parks around the world and you will see their subtle presence sprinkled everywhere, if you look close enough. The lady in the "Soaring" attraction that Jen said looked like her is also actually a member of the SEA. Finally, Disney has also announced a series based around the "SEA" and its characters will be produced in the next few years.

That's actually part of an old Japanese Disney joke which is better heard than read. It basically has a person telling his friend about the new park (DisneySea). The friend says, "Wait a minute, If Disneyland is Disney A, and the new park is Disney C, what happened to Disney B?!"😆

Not actually the Pacific, it's actually Tokyo Bay, but it does open on the Pacific and makes the park extremely windy nonetheless :p

Amazing! Thanks for taking us with you. Ummm when you say if you want to be a little extra you can book those rooms at Miracosta...at least you get to see the show full out and aren't paying $300 more a night to go from standard view to a partial fireworks view at wilderness lodge or a lake view/maybe fireworks view at Poly...just saying.

It is sea based. But the more in depth theming is Society of Explorers and Adventurers

I think you made a mistake. You said Raging Spirits is not only Indiana Jones ride. You know Paris Disney land has this attraction is Indiana Jones. But we have a ride, Indiana Jones, the king domesticallyof Crystal skull. So you didn't try this one because it's different of US Disney land and Disney world.
Also about Arabian cost. There is a cute tiger named Chando. He is only appeard in Japan.

The hotel you choose was in an excellent location. So convenient. I checked it out but it's out of my budget so I normally stay 1 or 2 prefecture on the other side of Tokyo station. Nihombashi or Higashi nihombashi much cheaper but still nice hotels APA hotel higashi nihombashi is so close to station you can get the Keikyu line directly from Haneda airport. Use Google maps for directions from train to the hotel. Business district. Much quieter.

Oh Jen, what an adventure! So glad you've taken us along with you. Japan is absolutely delightful. That train with Mickey Mouse windows is adorable. Question: do the Disney's outside of the U.S. feel different to you emotionally? Do they give you the same vibes? Are the temps similar to those in California and Florida, pleasant and warm? By the way, your son speaking in the background sounds exactly like Scott.

Definitely use google translate or whatever app you prefer. It's quite easy to use and you can either show the translation to a sales person or whomever or it can say it. You can also take pictures of signage and it will translate the sign for you. Technology has made it much easier!
