    Just picked up an E-M 10 ii, and came across your channel here whilst studying up on M4/3. VERY useful information here! Thanks for doing this, and I'll look forward to watching all your future vids as you push them out!

    Finally a channel dedicated to micro four thirds camera shooting! Already saw a couple of your videos. Great work! Thank's for that and a question: Any tipps on the best workflow to get pictures from my olympus OM-D E 10 to Snapped on the iPad?

      Andreas Wiehrdt RE: Getting images from your EM10 to your iPad, depends on if you want (a) JPGs, or (b) raw files.
      JPGs are easy, the camera has built-in wifi that allows for image transfers. Very useful.
      If raw files, it's a bit more complicated. Also, keep in mind that iOS appears to limit raw files to around 8 megapixels -- whenever I edit a raw file in Snapseed, it displays the resolution at much lower than full resolution. But it doesn't do this with JPGs.
      Anyway, to get raw files from camera to iPad, you can either get an Eye-Fi memory card that supports raw files (since Olympus wifi doesn't) or use a computer to transfer. I'm an avid Google Drive user. I can plug a memory card into my computer, drag raw files onto a Google Drive folder, and within seconds they'll show up in the Google Drive iOS app. From there I can open them directly into Snapseed. It's not as smooth a workflow as with JPGs, hopefully Olympus catches up and allows wifi transfer with raw images.

      Do you have experience with Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit (apple.co/1QFmK2D) to import RAW from an SD card into Snapseed??

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  Před 9 lety

      Andreas Wiehrdt Yes, I bought one recently...and returned it to Apple the next day. Very disappointing product. For two main reasons:
      (1) The adapter only works with iPad. Plug it into an iPhone 6 and you get a message that says the accessory is not supported. Pretty ridiculous that they lock out iPhone usage.
      (2) Most importantly, it is slowwwwww. Actual image transfers are one thing, but the worst slowness is when browsing thumbnails.
      Plug the adapter in, go to the Photos app, and toggle to the view that shows photos on the memory card: It has to generate preview thumbnails for every image on the card, and each image takes ~1 second. And it starts from the first image on the card.
      If your hard already had 100 images on, you just took a new photo and want to transfer it, you have to wait ~100 seconds before the preview thumbnail is rendered for your new photo. It is absurdly slow. I am shocked at how bad of a product it is.

      Thanks again! You saved me a disappointing experience. So I guess, I will use the Olympus app to transfer photos to the iPad, when traveling without my MacBook.

    First, you look like Charlie Day from the movie Horrible Bosses. My question is about the OM-D E-M1 MARK II. What are your thoughts on this camera and how does it compare to the DC-GH5K?

    Hi Mark, I just watched your video about your preference for using the Aperture setting for creativity . . . great video and its giving me a push in the right direction for my photography. I have a Olympus om d em10 and I bought a 25 mm 1.8 micro lens for it. It's a great overall lens and very fast. A few weeks ago I was photographing a waterfall but wasn't able to get that special effect which blurrs the water to give a sense of motion . . . the photos get washed out in brightness, I think because the lens is so fast . . . any recommendations?

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  Před 9 lety

      Maurice Richard During daylight? You'll likely need what's known as an ND filter.
      The wide aperture of the 25mm isn't a limiting factor, because there's no need to shoot it wide open -- you can close the aperture as small as f/22.
      But an ND filter will really help. It's a small piece of glass that screws into the front of the lens (make sure you get the right size -- 46mm size for your 25mm lens) and it's like putting sunglasses on the lens. Really, really dark sunglasses. I don't have much experience using slow shutters to smooth water effects, but you probably want an exposure of at least a few seconds.
      For the sake of this comment, let's say you need to 4 seconds exposure. If you stop your lens down to f/16 and still the slowest it'll go is 1/2 a second (varies by lighting condition), that means you need an 3-stop ND filter. Basically for every "stop" of light you block with the filter, you can double your exposure time.
      1/2 * 2 = 1 second
      1 * 2 = 2 seconds
      2 * 2 = 4 seconds

    As regards other cameras, how about a review of the Ricoh GR. There are plenty of us m43 users considering that as a second camera, so it would be good to get your opinions.

    Sorry, can you help me, please! I just bought my EM5MII. I am testing timelapse mode with silent (electronic) shutter and long exposure (15 s). And I am surprised that I hear sound in camera body like a noise from IS, but stabiliser is off. The sound can be hear when shutter is open. Is it normal? Or maybe my camera does not turn off image stabilizer? Thank you! (I thought that in this mode the camera should not emit any sounds. Just like a GoPro)

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  Před 8 lety

      +Viktor Gabyshev I just tried it out, and mine does the same thing, but only with a long exposure. So yes, I'd say it's normal. I'm not sure what the noise is, it's not the image stabilizer, which I could tell is not operating. May be some internal mechanisms to reduce heat, as long exposures on the sensor can generate heat which causes issues with the photos.

    • @ViktorGabyshev
      @ViktorGabyshev Před 8 lety +1

      Thank you very much for your test and your answer! It is very interesting as my Canon 6d does not emit any sounds with long exposure (only shutter sound). Thanks a lot!

    I would like a tutorial on connecting it to wifi.

    • @Michromatic
      @Michromatic  Před 8 lety

      +michael carroll The E-PL5 doesn't have built-in WiFi, so you'll need to get a flash memory card that has WiFi. Something like the Eye-Fi or the Flash Air will do.
      I did a video showing how I get photos from an Olympus E-PM2 -- very similar to your camera -- onto my phone. czcams.com/video/oa5oFqVofkw/video.html
