Lucy is actually a natural blonde, but shes known for the jet black of Xena because she had already had two appearances in Hercules with her natural hair color, so they dyed it for the role of Xena and it kind of just stuck.
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Not only had I graduated in 2004, but I had a long-distance relationship with a girl from Amsterdam.
Yes, he's a real British person. His name is Vinnie Jones, he used to be a professional football player in England. He was basically an enforcer on the field. And yes, that is a stereotype they're called football hooligans.

The head soccer hooligan Manchester United was actually one of England's top football players Vinnie Jones. He retired in 1998 and started becoming a British actor and presenter
In 1909 a German teacher named Richard Schirrmann came up with the idea to rent out schools that were closed for the summer into dormitories for young travels. He called them YOUTH Hostels, as does the Cambridge English dictionary. So yes, other people in the world call them that not just “American Media”
Apparently in the nude beach scene Jacob Pitts (Cooper) refused to put his clothes back on because he thought it was funny how uncomfortable everyone was.

In the Schengen area they wouldn't need a passport to go across 20+ different European countries, including going from Berlin, Germany to Rome, Italy... I think only Bratislava (Slovakia) would require a passport at the time as it wasn't in Schengen area aggreement yet (it got in in 2007).
If you think the football hooligans bar bit was exaggerated, I think you might not have been to many supporters bars in the UK lol. Road Trip should be next on the list, it's equally good :)
So what would happen if an American went in and said "Hey i don't know shit about footie, but i hear Manc is the best fucking team in the world, lets watch a match and get pissed" Welcomed or no ?
@26:00 Germany, Italy, France, the UK (back when the film was made), Slovakia are all part of the Schengen area, and once you're in, you don't have any borders - UK decided to leave it though in 2020 it even allows you to choose your residence and work place freely in any of these states: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, Iceland,Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.
9:17 Yes he is Vinnie Jones a British actor, presenter and former professional football player (1984-99), so his accent is real. He played for a few teams in the Premier League…but was not/still not a Manchester United fan.
Fun Fact: The Hitler child part was cut from the German version of the movie. Since this was kind of before youtube my friends group only knew about it because the dvd rip we got at a lan party had it inserted with German subtitles. Good times.
i´m from germany too, also only saw that scene only from som rip over the internet and was confused why this wasn´t on my dvd. thought it is some outtake that didnßt made it to german releases ^^
We probably call them youth hostels in America because we have this general stereotype of 18 years old's backpacking through Europe and staying in hostels while adults traveling to Europe would stay in hotels. Plus the whole movie is based on American stereotypes of high school kids and Europe so a lot of it isn't anywhere close to accurate. And I'm sure Bratislava has always been beautiful, they just picked a random city in Central/Eastern Europe to poke fun at. Fun movie though.
As an Eastern European, I find that segment on "us" genuinely funny, especially since it triggers nostalgia. It's a very exaggerated picture of early 90s, but it is true to the spirit. They got the gist of dull grey perfectly. The architects probably put a lot of trees on the dioramas they presented to the central planners, but in practice The Plan was about number of flats delivered to the populace so the money for landscaping never materialized, it started changing only in late 90s. It genuinely feels the dog with human hand is what was missing in the original, not something that's extraneous in the movie. Same with purchasing power of the dollar. It's exaggerated enough to be sure it's not mocking; like, I imagine no one in US thinks you could have bought yourself a hotel to run for a nickel, but everybody knows the money value was wild. And it was. In my country, at the lowest depth of economical crash in 1991 average monthly salary was equal to seven dollars on the free money market. Granted, 1991 dollar was worth 2.3x more than 2024 one, but those four dollars a week was enough to pay the rent and get crappy food on the table. And it took only several years for situation to normalize. We are still a cheap tourist destination of course if you want to visit!
9:22 Vinnie Jones is a British ex football player (he never played for Manchester :)) 14:35 For example, he was in "Fallout". 33:38 Lucy Lawless is a New Zeland actress.
It is a teen comedy, not a travel documentary. But they shouldn't need their passports until they left for us since all the countries they visited are part of the Schengen Area, except UK but he hadn't got robbed then
I mean they still needed their passports, they'd get deported the moment any police notices they're not local (technically, they could've gone to prison, but that basically never happens).

In the Schengen area they wouldn't need a passport to go across 20+ different European countries, including going from Berlin, Germany to Rome, Italy... I think only Bratislava (Slovakia) would require a passport at the time as it wasn't in Schengen area aggreement yet (it got in in 2007).
Lucy Lawless is from New Zealand, not America. Probably best known as Xena, the warrior princess.
One of my favourite go-to Stupid-Fun comedies! The lead up to Scotty being mistaken as the new Pope was frickin perfect!
There are normally no passport controls in the Schengen region, which covers most of the EU.
When I was in Iraq in '05, "Scotty doesn't know" was written on the wall of just about every porta-john I visited during that tour.
If you think the football hooligans bar bit was exaggerated, I think you might not have been to many supporters bars in the UK lol.
Road Trip should be next on the list, it's equally good :)
Just my words :) Those football hooligans look real!
So what would happen if an American went in and said "Hey i don't know shit about footie, but i hear Manc is the best fucking team in the world, lets watch a match and get pissed"
Welcomed or no ?
"Oh she's American too?" LUCY LAWLESS!?!?!?!?
Xena the Warrior Princess of New Zealand?
I didn't realize that was her. Ha.
You can go to the U.S. embassy in Berlin and get an emergency passport the same day.
One of my all time favorite comedies. It never gets old
@26:00 Germany, Italy, France, the UK (back when the film was made), Slovakia are all part of the Schengen area, and once you're in, you don't have any borders
- UK decided to leave it though in 2020
it even allows you to choose your residence and work place freely in any of these states:
Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland and Sweden, Iceland,Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.
Mi scusi, Mi scusi
EXCUSE ME
Buongiorno
9:17 Yes he is Vinnie Jones a British actor, presenter and former professional football player (1984-99), so his accent is real. He played for a few teams in the Premier League…but was not/still not a Manchester United fan.
Fun Fact. The S&M lady was played by Lucy Lawless (Zena Warrior Princess).
loved Xena as a kid :)
I can occasionally hear me saying out loud "this isn't where I parked my car" my notifications are mail mf! And my ring tone is scotty doest know.
Fred armisen is amazing, that scuzi scene still kills me, even today my friends and i use the "scuzi"
This movie is the reason I can remember that the capital of Slovakia is Bratislava
only movie I have almost fainted from laughing to, unable to get air, seeing black dots, getting dizzy from laughing
Scotty doesnt know was the biggest thing when this movie came out it was so fun! ❤
You might recognize the italian guy on the train cause more recently he was also the guy at the radio station in fallout
Fallout, wednesday, brokklyn 99, SNL and probably a ton more
Portlandia
12:36 😂😂😂
Oh my god. I’m so immature. I laughed at this for 5 minutes. 😂
When I went to Israel, there was no drinking age. I was 14, ordered Goldstar beer, and no one even blinked an eye when they served me.
I remember taking the train from Amsterdam to Brussels in 2005 and no one checked our passport.
They're in the Schengen zone.
One of my favorite movies
hell yeaaa
9:22 Vinnie Jones is a British ex football player (he never played for Manchester :))
14:35 For example, he was in "Fallout".
This entire movie is great, and when the little kid started goosestepping I was laughing so hard I was in pain, tears running down my face.
