      Yes, you can also do it reverse, close to open. Start with 2 clicks open from close. Open 2 clicks at a time until you get the bolt hold open, then open 2 clicks more for reliability

      @@Texan2a Old post but of course you tune with the suppressor attached, how else will you know when you've minimized blow-back? Most suppressor designs will result in more blowback then running unsuppressed with a given ammo, so you need to tune appropriately for each, as well as for each ammo type (load, weight).

  • @carguy3028
    @carguy3028 Před rokem +2

    My 308 I think the recoil knocks the catch loose, I have found I can hit the stock on the table and it will send the bolt home. The reason I say this is because I couldn’t get my 308 to cycle with the gas block all the way open. Is it 15 clicks for the 308 and 15 or just the 15. When I took the gas block back off I looked inside with 15 clicks and noticed the adjustment screw is still visible in the gas port, it took about 18 to 20 to where I couldn’t see it anymore. I suspect I may have been slightly off when installing the gas block but I’m not sure I rechecked the alignment and have the block out 18 clicks.

    • @carguy3028
      @carguy3028 Před rokem

      I have an update this is not what was happening, what happened was the bolt wasn’t going all the way to the rear, it was catching on the magazine follower. I used a slow motion camera to watch the ejection pattern which was right at the 6 o clock position. I sent the upper back to the manufacturer and they found the bolt was out of spec, it wouldn’t hold up the bolt carrier but I wasn’t sure if that was a valid test on an ar10 due to the heavier bolt. Well get it back with a new bolt and it stands up on end supporting the carrier. Took it out today the first couple 1 round tests didn’t go as expected but it was ejecting at the 3 o clock position high side of properly gassed. After a few rounds it started working better, found for some reason it doesn’t like Aguilar ammo, cycles Norma, PMC and Winchester soft point fine. I also noticed with my metal mag it locked back to the rear more than with the mag pull mag.

    • @NL5977
      @NL5977 Před 8 měsíci

      I also noticed my gas block wasn't clear of the set screw after 15 turns. Fired it at 23 clicks open trying to get lock back. Is it possible I blew my bolts gas rings? Im not sure if this Faxon ever passed the stand up test.

    I could not adjust my M5E1 build in 308 to properly cycle.
    Aero 20" .308 CMV Barrel, Rifle Length, Aero Adjustable Gas Block .750 Low Profile, Aero Melonite Rifle Length Gas Tube. I have to research where I got the A2 buffer system but it looks like a heavy duty spring.
    Today I will remove the hand guard and examine the gas block for signs of gas leaking / alignment issues. I will also check the BCG gas tube staking and assembly for looseness. I dimpled the barrel using a KAK jig (having done this successfully on many builds already). Note, I thought the fit between the gas block and the barrel tolerance was loose compared to every other gas block I have used in the past.
    The gas tube seems a little short in the receiver compared to a rifle length 6.5 Grendel build I have. I was thinking to order a 15.5" gas tube and replace the buffer system with a lighter spring and weight. Any other suggestions? Am I missing something? Oh, I had to pin the muzzle device on the barrel because of local laws. Bummer.

      Same issue. Mine is 20 inch criterion barrel rifle length gas with their headspaced BCG. Aero M5 carbine tube spring and buffer. Using M 80 fmj. Aero adjustable gas block is all the way open.most of the time it would either stove pipe or just enough to toss the empty case out barely and not pick up the new round. And wont lock back. My guess is that aero calls for the block to go up to the shoulder. My barrel is dimpled so it has that tiny gap. Im putting on a regular gas block today to try it

      The gas port on the Aero (ballistic advantage) barrels are notorious for being undersized and need to be drilled out to correct size. I had the same issue with my 18" 308 barrel. Once i had a gunsmith drill the correct size, my M5E1 was cycling like clockwork. I forgot what size needs to be drilled but I'm sure a google search will help.

    I am surprised at tuning from open down instead of from midpoint, seems like a waste of ammo to start from either end since you already know the outcome of each. If you start at the midpoint (turns/clicks) then you can adjust up/down depending on the outcome.

    This is on my "to-get" list next month when I get the $$$!!! I really, really one this for shooting with a can! Tired of the gas in the face... really need to tame the back-blast; burnt IMR 4831 does NOT taste good.
    And BY THE WAY... I don't know what kind of voodoo you guys are doing up there but the 20" M5E1 upper (all Aero) in 6.5 is STUPID accurate! I mean, semi auto's are not supposed to be this accurate! I get consistent 1.25-1.5" groups at 200m with this thing (home-brewed 80% lower, AIM SSTAT trigger, Vortex Viper 6.5-20x)... of course, my ammo is good (recycled Starline fire-formed to its chamber, 147g ELD-M, powder measured to 0.05gr) but damn, less than 3/4 MOA from a semi auto that I was able to build for less than $1600? Man, you guys absolutely ROCK!
    So, I have to know, is this accuracy indicative of this series of rifle/upper, all your products or maybe something along the lines of that odd car or truck that was just built just right, taken care of and a result of the right materials/manufacturing/assembly/user care and able to make it to 1 million miles? Either way, it reeks of quality but the sheer accuracy blew my mind. I was expecting 1 to 1.5 MOA at best but when I shot 0.70 that first day, I was blown away! I have bolt guns that don't do that good! Anyway, if I got a 1-off, fine, not gonna burn that barrel out, got others, save this one for the boogaloo (lol). If this IS typical of the accuracy, man, you got me as a customer for life!
    Anyway, see y'all on my next build... a 16" lightweight 308 carbine!
    Go ahead, call me a fanboy, I don't mind... I own 1600 yards With my M5E1! ;)

    So tuning this with .223 PMC Bronze is probably smart, a weaker range ammo.
    Finding out where it reliably cycles and then clicking it back 2-3 clicks counterclockwise in order to allow it to cycle hotter ammo (Xtac 5.56, Green tip Winchester etc)
    Someone correct me

    • @Matt99.
      @Matt99. Před rokem

      I’m probably wrong but I think you would want to tune it with heavier ammo, which requires less blowback to cycle than a lighter round would
      Tune with heavy ammo, that way when you run 55gr it will for sure lock back
      If you tune with 55gr then when you use 77gr it would send the bolt back harsher? And the heavier round will definitely cycle if you tune for 55gr

Take it all apart and clean the block and studs with degreaser and apply red lock tight to studs and torque them to 15- 20 inch pounds. Torquing them to tight will actually cause harmonic issues and bullets will suffer from slight turbulence.

    Junk. Can't get enough gas through to cycle without a supressor installed. I've tried everything. Piss poor design. Can't be serviced without being removed from the barrell. Tiny Screws stripped out long before reaching 40 in lb specs. Had to cut it off with angle grinder. So aggravating. Put on a regular Daniel Defense. Runs great open or suppressed. Adjustable gas blocks are a failure point and a waste of money for 99.9% of guns. Especially this one.

      I think I read somewhere that it was 6" but I haven't yet received my gas block to confirm.
