- From a BBC special on Band Aid, this is Midge's original solo version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" that he composed after Bob Geldof suggested an all-star charity project to raise money to feed a starving Ethiopia.

Midge Ure is an amazing singer and musician. His voice is so recognizeable and unique.
Oh! How great to hear Midge's version. Pity it's not complete.: (
brilliant
Midge era do they know it's Christmas classic song from the eighties good music back then
This was never meant to be released, it was the demo that was sent to the individual singers to convince them to join the project.
The song is already there, but listening to the various changes added by the singers (look for George Michael recording session for example) you realize how much richness they added to the original.
Not at all. Midge`s version is damn good, the sleepy stars were lame.
@@marguskiis7711 I respectfully disagree, as I don't feel Midge Ure interpretations as warm (in general, not only in this song), but this is just my opinion.
That song truly came to life with Phil Collins' drums.
It's an arrangement effect, to show contrast, exactly like how Phil Collins' own "In The Air Tonight" starts off with the Roland CR-78 drum machine and ends up with his own drumming. If the song was all-programmed drums or all live drums, the song wouldn't sound the same.
But Midge's vocals are much better than the star cast's ones
Sorry but Midge Demo Version is better than the Original All Star Cast Version...???? He should be finally releasing his 1984 Clean Studio Version...? Its his Baby/Demo anyway...…???? What a voice...???? I will always remember Hamburg 1985 Gift Tour Midge performance singing " Do they know its Christmas " ...
Love Midge! Bobs words but with midges music it comes to life ❤️❤️
Bob wrote only some lines actually.
Thanks for posting. It’s too bad he didn’t have a solo, he sounds great!
its the best. PERIOD.
shirley there has got to be a complete version somewhere? It's his song! Why can't it be released as a bonus track, or even an mp3!! There must be many fan who;d jump at the chance of buying a copy!! ....but will it ever see the light of day? Like all those unreleased Ultravox 80s tracks Midge said when they reformed, they were going to release ! a decade later, and still not happened. Often artist will write many songs during creating an album, but only the chosen few make it to the album and get fully produced.... so there could be dozens of (as good as their b-sides at least) tracks unheard by the fans!
Full version can be found on "If I Was: The Very Best Of Midge Ure & Ultravox" compilation
@@gundy6603 having listened to it, it’s the full band aid version, not the midge ure demo version.
