Whether we’re talking about moldings, regulators, engine or brake parts, sending cores to Southeast Chevy Parts is not as easy as it may seem. To begin with, because of the EPA and various federal regulations regarding the shipment of hazardous materials, it's particularly important whenever you ship us any item that has had any type of fluid in it that the fluid be completely drained. These items would include master cylinders, treadle vac units, power steering control valves, power steering pumps … in other words, anything that would contain brake fluid or power steering fluid. Our recommendation is that you actually use two separate plastic garbage bags. Roll the product into one garbage bag and then place that in the 2nd bag. This will ensure that should any of the fluids leak out, it will not create a problem with the EPA.
A few years back, we had someone attempt to send a carburetor and they failed to remove all the fuel from it and some of it leaked out of the box; the carburetors were impounded by the EPA and it took us over a year to recover the goods that didn't even belong to us, but belonged to our customer - simply because he had failed to send the pieces properly. In addition to wrapping them, it's very critical that padding be used to keep the pieces protected. We recommend that you wrap them in newspaper, bubble wrap, shipping peanuts, or anything that would provide a cushion so that the pieces are not damaged.
If you’re going to send moldings to us, we recommend the use of a pvc pipe or a special heavy duty cardboard shipping container. If you use a cardboard box, it’s critical to use a piece of 1x2 and just strap the moldings to the wood to keep the items from being damaged in any way.
Lastly, and absolutely critical, is to include a note in the box with your name and contact information. Just last week, we received two packages, both on the same day - one containing a booster and the other one an electric windshield wiper motor. Neither of the boxes had a note or any instructions or a phone number. One of them had a return address with some scribbled initials. The other one at least had an address that we could photocopy and write to the customer. But please be sure whenever you send us anything make sure to give us your contact information. If you have already purchased the item and are sending us your core for a credit, please include a copy of your invoice so that we can make sure that you get credited in a punctual manner.
