    I loved how they used an ATSF 3751 class engine for the locomotive and gave it a random tender.

    Well, Bachmann has been getting their quality control up for a while now. I’ve bought a bunch of newer Bachmann products and compared them to some older Bachmanns from the 1980s and there’s a clear difference in quality. The newer Bachmanns have far better quality and performance than the older ones; drawbars that actually work, can-motors instead of the cheap pancake motors they used to use, better mechanisms, and far more detail. They also have upgraded their quality on freight and passenger cars too. They now all have metal wheels, and don’t look like they’re cheaper than Tyco.

      There were a few Bachmanns from the 80s that had can motors, such as when they reproduced AHM's GP18 high hoods

    Small problem, they gave it the number of a U-1-A, not even the same wheel arrangement!

  • @WWIIREBEL

    Early bachmann train set Improvements include: 1. Replace all plastic wheels w/ metal ones. 2. swap out the motor with a coreless motor (where possible) . 3. replace locomotives or diesels Axle gears with some from Northwest Shortline (they make re-powering kits and good gear sets) or another good gear maker. 4. If draw bar is straight and doesn't connect well....Bend it upwards slightly with pliers or a table vise ,to improve connection. As an example ,I have repowered ALL of my early bachmann diesels with a self powered truck set called the "Stanton Drive" , by Northwest Shortline. They are sadly not cheap, but the quality is excellent and you get your monies worth. And they are easy as heck to install, as they only require one screw and nut to mount to a floor. If your diesels don't have a floor, you can make one simply out of cut styrene sheets, glued into the shells.

    I had the overland limited as a kid back when it first came out in the early 2000s but i dont remember it being able to smoke and i dont remember ever having any as a kid that did. Is my old age (lol im 35) getting the better or me or did later releases get that feature added to the locomotive?

    The only bachmann product I still buy these days is EZ track because I live with a roommate and my layout has to be disassemble-able for when I move out. I would be using kato unitrack but some of my old rivarossi locomotives like my big boy and challenger have large flanges that needs code 100 track to run properly

      At least 3 the one this guy has is from the 80's and 90's witch are the bad ones with split axles and split chassis, the newer versions are much better as I have the newer one and its a good runner, also i think the canada version might be super rare cause i find nothing on it when I Google anything about it

  • @brandongaines1731
    @brandongaines1731 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Should be an easy enough fix: just make a couple of shallow bends in the drawbar with some needlenose pliers. It might have a bit of trouble with negotiating 18" radius curves after that, but the industry's been moving beyond those for quite a few years, now, anyway 🙄

    • @spdaylight1

    I had one however is a easy fix just grab an extra bit of like a pipe cleaner, bend the bottom section of it, and make sure it’s the right length then when you put the tender on it, it should work fine just make sure to strip the pipe cleaner in the area where the rod connects

    A steam loco hauling cars from the modern era ? Yikes. I have two versions of the CN reefer car and the older one, from the 80's looks better than the one in this set. The newer one in the same livery also looks better and not as shiny as the one in the vid. Bachmann has improved somewhat with some pretty decent models out now compared to the 80s. My first set was a Bachmann that featured a CN f-unit, the cn reefer car, a CN gondola and a CN caboose. The paint jobs featured a matt finish with a slight shine compared to the set above. The loco though ran like crap after a few years but it was decent enough untill i could get better locos.
