The one and only Nick Mason here, of Pink Floyd fame. Even in 1980 the pit lane in particular was still frighteningly cramped... Thanks for uploading!
Real skilled drivers, real unique race cars, no driver assists, NO COMPUTERS. The decade of the 1980's was the pinnacle, the very top of Lemans racing! This video footage is rare and very special, everyone should pay attention because we won't see anything like it again in our lifetimes!
This is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for this.
Love this footage from the 1980 Le Mans! Thanks so much! Some very cool and unique cars which sports car racing has always had. As another commenter mentioned, we will never see racing like this again. I love the modern sports car racing with LMH & LMDh, but this was a very different era.
As a fellow endurance racing fan, it's lovely to hear other people enjoying these short films. It's sad to think that Jean Rondeau was killed a few years later. And in unusual circumstances. It's a mere 4 days until the start of the 2024 race. Here's hoping for a classic race that goes down to the wire.
👏👏👏👏👏
Nice video 👌👌😍😍
you have 1978 -1979 Le mans too?
Is it just me, or did the Le Mans pits seem pretty grimey back then?
They may have been. They were far more crowded back then than they are today. The pit complex I think was rebuilt entirely for the 1991 edition of the race that Mazda cleaned up at with the 787B.
Indeed, they were the cramped old pits, that got torn down in 1990-91
