That was the most intensive warm up of a soldering iron I've ever seen.
Haha I read this comment before the ad finished and cracked up the whole intro
that was the best way to get all ur headphone users angry right from the start

Give your HDMI mod twice as many lines of detail to work with: You need to hold B button when starting the game to enable progressive scan 480p!
Finally I couldn't find dam near any info on this a few months ago. Thank you!!
Great production value Sam, Nice to see you still making videos :)
Thanks! Same to you!
Thank you so much you brilliant, brilliant man. Just sent off for the Pluto board, pre-programmed with gcvideo
This was a fantastic tutorial I used to get my GameCube modded! I've had my GameCube HDMI modded for about a year and it's a great solution if you don't wanna find official GameCube component cables.
How's the resolution? what is you general experience?
@@chileanguyfleegman1908 It outputs 720 x 480p I believe, just like it would if you are using the gamecube component cables. You should be able to check the resolution output in the options menu that comes with the chip. I've been using my modded gamecube for a couple years now and it's been working great! The picture quality is as good as it gets I believe without using an emulator or external upscaleres such as the framemeister or the osc.
Cheers mate! This looks like a promising option.
I hope that this gentleman is still actove 2 years later. Happy Canada Day Mr Campbell.
Thanks! I am working on new videos it's just become a slow process because of many other things going on at the moment
Sam Campbell alright. I did send you a form true google. I am canadian too. Probly want next month
Might as well ask. How does real-time deinterlacing of 480i or 576i signals work? My TV does it SOMEHOW, and does it very well, but I want to know HOW.
Hey Sam! I just completed this mod myself, except there is one small issue. I cannot get the 480p Progressive prompt to appear while holding the B button on boot up! I have tested it on multiple progress scan compatible games. Do you think it is a solder point that could cause the Gamecube to not recognize that HDMI mod as a component cable?
Interesting. A couple of things to check first would be:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GameCube_games_with_alternate_display_modes
Although you did say that the games were progressive compatible, so that probably doesn't help.
Note that PAL doesn't support progressive scan.
Natively the GameCube's component cable contained a DAC to convert the signals to the 4:2:2 YCrCb component out, and the analog a/v port would be used for sound, it seems strange that there isn't any prompt as the fact that there is a signal through the HDMI should allow for enabling progressive mode. The best I can suggest is to check pin 1s connection on the GameCube to pin 20 on the Pluto Board.
Another thing I can suggest is within the "Other Settings" menu make sure both "Enhanced DVI" and "Allow 480p" are on.
Great tutorial! Thank you for this 👍
Did you skip the part where you connected the wire for controller polling?
I think the fix is either going to be it's up to us to reprogram the board when a new version is released or have them ship out a new board.
Great video. I have a quick question though. Did you use the 30 gauge wire for the points from the digital port? I have extremely thin wire lying around but I'm not sure what gauge it is...it looks about the same to what you have in the video, but would it cause any problems if it's not the exact same size? I ordered an FPGA but they're back ordered right now :( I appreciate your help!
Yep I used a very thin 30 gauge wire for all of the digital port points
Good music choice. Quiet nights is quite the tune.
I just installed one and I don't get sound without the DVI enhanced feature on. I'm going to rewire it again. Did you encounter any issues with the audio?
Are there any showing the D101 mod keeping the digital and analog ports in place?
I really like your guidance on this you got a good flow as a teach
10:35 "Input: 660x448i 60" The overwhelming majority of Gamecube games support native 480p output! Hold B when starting the game, and then set the game to generate native 480p output. This way the mod won't need to *convert* 480i to 480p. I believe it even saves your preference somehow. It might be a system-wide setting, or maybe only remembers your preference when the game has a save on the memory card (I'd have to experiment again to be sure). I owned component cables that I had purchased directly from Nintendo back in the day. I finally sold it last year since I plan to add HDMI.
Does this make a big difference visually to just using a gamecube or wii and upscaling 480i through tv (if it supports upscaling) or through a upscaling receiver?
Yes, it does
This was a great video man. Is there any other really cool mods like this that can improve the gaming experience
The only other thing I can think of at the moment, which isn't even a mod at all, is the SD Media Launcher.
True..
I’ve done a few GameCube mods since watching your video. Now I wonder if it’s possible to use a JST connector in order to avoid the solder work
I have optimized my installs to use a ribbon cable but I I have yet to find a connector that I can easily install on the GameCube motherboard.
I would love to find a compatible connector so if you have found one let me know!
Did you have to program your board? Mine didn't come with the white serial connector like yours. I think maybe they sent me the wrong board as I double checked all my connections and I'm still not getting a signal.
There are 5 boards listed. Which ones are required for DOL-001?
Item#6117
Wow! Great video! I've been on the fence about modding a gamecube, but you showing how easy the installation is convinced me. I'll just have to figure out the programming.
Do you have a video on installing a region switch for the gamecube?
There's a pre-programmed version in the description that you can purchase. As for a region switch the only thing I have is the XenoGC which makes the cube region free,
czcams.com/video/FimxP5iX9y8/video.html
Sam Campbell just ordered the circuit board :)
I found a tutorial using just a switch and some gauge wire soldered to a few parts for a region free mod.
bringmepieskm
Sounds good! Good luck
Alright, I can't be the only one to have thought of this, but when implementing the HDMI mod, wouldn't it be much simpler to create an adapter that connects to the DIGITAL OUT port on the game-cube with HDMI out on the other end?
No you are not the only one, but this mod was basically an open-source prototype made by Ingo Korb that was designed to be used on a simple FPGA board. It could be done but there are simply no manufacturers for it.
Sorry I do recall now, that one site is working on it, but I'm not sure on a release: www.badassconsoles.com/gcvideo-faq/
Is the image quality as good as the component cables? I have them but would sell them and switch to this if it's as good lol
It's as good, yes.
Great video! Really helpful, I'm going to try this within the next month hopefully. I would like to ask you a few questions though. In what order did you solder the other wires not shown? First to the GC mother board then to the HDMI chip or the reverse of that? Did you do one wire at a time or all of them to the board then to the chip? Last did you keep all the wires the same size or just the shortest you could?
I wired all of them to the board then the chip, soldering one wire to the board checking the length it would require to get to the chip once it was connected. Stripping and tinning that wire, then moving on to the next. Once all of the wires were soldered into the board and measured, I just pushed the tinned ends through the corresponding holes in the chip, and soldered them in. In terms of size I always like to give a little extra for movement.
Thanks, that's how I envisioned doing it.
No problem, good luck! Let me know if you have any issues
What brand wire did you use? the ones I ordered felt cheap. I completed the soldering. The cube turned on but Hdmi display wasn't working. The cube still boots an plays fine with composite output.
I used something like:
www.amazon.com/Breadboard-B-30-1000-Plated-Copper-Wrapping/dp/B008AGUAII/ref=sr_1_2?s=lamps-light&ie=UTF8&qid=1488762980&sr=1-2&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A6426179011
does the newer cubes that didn't come with that port still have the points to solider the board into. i know some modding of the case would be needed.
The new GameCubes (DOL-101) with only one video out port cannot have HDMI output, however they can be modified to support component cables/VGA natively with the analog mod from badassconsoles.com
honestly LOVED the intro lol
Glad you liked it. Personally I think it's the worst intro I've ever done.
Hello can you help point me in the right direction, I want this doing to my GameCube either sent off to be done by someone or buy the parts and solder it in myself. Can anyone help please?
If I have a question would it be possible to change the game cube digital output with a wii output by doing the same method?
Ah, see the Wii outout in what is described as a "Multi AV" out. Meaning that the cable contained composite, component, and I believe S-Video signals within the cable. The GameCube had the option of a Digital AV out. To put it simply, these signals were completely digital. You could think of it like vaguely the same way that HDMI is. So inside of the GameCube component cable there is actually a DAC (MXB012355) that converts the digital signals to component ones.
Hope that helps.
Dunno if anyone can help but just installed a Pluto II card in my gamecube and I get about one second of video before blank screen. My monitor recognizes it's getting the signal but does not display anything? Also I only have this one computer monitor to test on (It's an LG widescreen)
What is the LED on the Pluto board indicating. As well, when you say that the monitor is getting signal but doesn't display it do you mean that its telling you that its out of range, or is the screen simply blank?
Hi everyone, I did this mod but i ruined the controller soldering so i can't access the menu and configure the sound output and stuff. i read somewhere that i can use an IR remote but i can't find info on what to buy and what to solder where. If anyone could provide help, that would be great.
I believe you can solder onto the red highlighted pin of the player 1 controller port marked in this image:
i73.photobucket.com/albums/i208/MNDOGYDUDE105/gamecubecontrollerboardnd0.jpg
Just finished soldering mine up, and even with DVI mode enabled I'm getting no audio from my tv. Is there something I'm missing?
Found the problem JUST after I commented. The most miniscule short between 22 and 20 on the underside of the board.
Can this be done if my gamecube i only has the analog av out port? I have a grey one if that matters.
Currently looking into that at the moment, I'll keep you posted
Sam Campbell Thanks, please let me know if you get any news.
This is an old thread but I think the PDF shows how to do it. www.badassconsoles.com/product_images/manuals/GCVideo-InstallationGuide-BadAssConsoles.pdf
Is this mod possible with a gamecube that only had AV out? Does the board still have the solder points?
No it does not sadly
@@SamCampbell Man Nintendo can be so frustrating sometimes lol they're lucky their games are good
i know you probbley bought the pre flashed version but can you by any chance show how to flash the fpga because it has been a big question for me
I couldn't tell you sorry! You'll have to look for another tutorial
can you do this on a gambecube that only has analog av out???? please let me know asap
Do you think the quality difference is worth the hassle of disassembling the gamecube doing the wiring and soldering then reassembling it?
Yes, personally
Ok I'm looking for a hdmi mod for my wii but know nothing about modding consoles
@Sam Campbell can the hdmi image be upscale and sharp within reason or will I see a small square on my 1080p 50 inch telly
Well GameCube games were originally 480p or 480i. This device will upscale to 1080p and more prodomenantly 720p. That being said the vast majority of GameCube games were 4:3, there is simply no way around that fact that games took up a square portion of space on the screen at that time. So yes it will be a nice HD square that fills 70% of your screen. The only option you truly have is to stretch the image in your TVs settings but this will look poor , since the games were not designed for this
Sam Campbell therefore will i have a band on the left and the right but top and bottom will touch. Or will inhave even less than that. I ought to watch the full video however would you bace a visual example to show?
Is it possible to do this in a way that keeps the digital port working with the same mod chip
technically yes because the points you solder on are the ones of the port, practically no because you'll need a male connector and the wiring will be quite awfull.
So with this mod, progressive scan will be automatically disabled? Because when I noticed when you started the GameCube, it didn't ask for you to display 480p.
I believe it gives the prompt on certain games that support 480p
I have the same monitor how do you make the speakers work on yours
I just held a headphone up to the mic, there are no speakers
now I've watched a lot of videos on this , but I'm curious can u mod this on a analog only gamecube ??
I've heard things about this chip: www.badassconsoles.com/gcvideo-1/
I got the 3d printed mount from Colingall, can't wait to do this mod ;D
Good luck!
Could this hdmi mod be done if the Gamecube doesn't have the digital av out?
In reality, no. However there was supposed to be a development for the analog GameCubes over at: www.badassconsoles.com/gcvideo-1/
However, all production and stock has come to a halt for the foreseeable future.
HELP!!! I rewired everything multiple times i have a blinking light but no signal
The pulsing light is a good sign. This will sound odd but did you connect the HDMI cable properly, it clicks in farther than you think
After a million and a half problems, I finally have my board installed. Pretty psyched! It looks great. I just got really unlucky with a bad firmware on the first board, then the second board didn't work at all. Managed to mess up two GameCube mainboards because of my inexperience. But the final product is pretty dang cool.
How did you figure out there was a problem with the board? Were you able to get a free replacement? I installed mine and can't get a signal. I've rechecked the connections multiple times and everything's correct.
I don't remember specifically but I know I did some troubleshooting. Do you have the correct capacitor installed? Also what are the lights on the board doing?
Patrick Day I used the 100 ohm resistor. There's one red light that stays on and is numbered 29.
The solid red light is basically an error message, it should be blinking. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure there aren't any shorts anywhere?
Patrick Day I didn't notice any shorts. I'll just have to redo it this weekend. Hopefully I didn't ruin any of the boards as it could ultimately be a waste of time.
If the game is progressive scan compatible will you get the option popup for it?
Not always, sometimes you have to hold down B
Hello Sam! I made this mod, but I dont have sound and controller signal. What can be the reason of this problems?
Best to double check the controller connection first: czcams.com/video/bZlykzgYJTE/video.htmlm59s
I would love to have the component cables, but the RGB cable puts out a quite impressive quality signal. No need for that.
is there any way to do the hdmi mode to a DOL 001 gamecube?
Thats the only one that it can be done to. The gamecube has to have the digital out for this to work. DOL 101 doesnt have it.
is this only for the cubes with the digital port or can it be done with later models that did not have them
Only for Cubes with the digital port
Badass consoles offers an option for the later models. You can restore the digital functionality.
Is it possible to just make an adapter that you plug into the digital port instead of modding the gamecube? I guess it would need a separate power supply and buttons to control the OSD.
Yeah, you're pretty much describing what the chip your installing is.
Actually, I thought about this again, and it would be possible for someone to make a consumer version using a nice boxed enclosure that just plugs into the digital port and only requires like 3 solder points. That would be interesting if someone got on that.
why is there not just a plug in one for hdmi? if you desolder and solder something elkse on wouldnt that be easyer
The only problem with making an external adapter is power would still need to be soldered, but yes that would be a good idea, unfortunately nobody manufactures this board in an easy GameCube adapter enclosure. It was more of a DIY project that someone made for a Pluto board
Can this be done on a non-USA unit? GC sold outside of the US don't have a digital output!
This particular method does not work with the Game Cubes that do not have a digital output
Is this a PAL-only mod, or will it work with NTSC region Gamecubes? And does it require any other mod-chips to be pre-installed? I'm custom-modding and painting a gamecube for my sister for her 21st birthday and I want to know if it's possible before I begin ordering this stuff.
The one I used in the video is actually an NTSC GameCube, however it should work for all regions. No other mod-chips are required, just what's in the description. That sounds like a neat gift, good luck!
Alright, awesome. Thank you.
No problem, let me know if you have any other question later
is there one of these for the wii? and is there any guides on soldering gamecube parts onto a wii thats missing gc components such as mc and controller ports?
I believe if you search for Wii HDMI adapters you'll find a few. I don't know of any guides for adding GC components to a Wii, sorry
i found this. but the link is dead hackaday.com/2012/05/24/grab-your-iron-and-add-gamecube-back-to-the-wii/ the link inside there is dead.
i only read a few lines from this. i guess this is the guide to add gc components to the black wii. it's a mess so i will look into later. was just hoping there was a version of the hdmi port for wii or that the same is compatible.
anyways thanks for this vid. i will try this later. have a good day mate! :)
00098LL
Thanks, and good luck!
Why does your board have that white connector at the side?
It was one of the earlier versions of the flashing process, when they kept the pins in, but now they use them anymore (from what I've seen). It shouldn't make a difference
Great video!
Do you have a link and list of the items you used
I have the component cables, 480p is so seet on the Cube.
Jealous!
Lucky you!
Fanático ditto. got em for 10 bucks lol
I have them too, glad I do. I was still questioning doing this mod to another GameCube and doing a comparison video but idk
So this mod is the better choice to achieve 480p quality games for alot cheaper over the component cables?
Generally, yes.
softmod a wii u
Wii U can't play all models of Gameboy games and the Wavebird controllers are awesome. So.... Gamecube wins with the Gameboy player base.
So sad that i live in Brazil, would be very expensive to send it to you, cause my NGC needs that, since it is the one with the regular analog out. Or doesn't work in those models?
This only works with DOL-001, or GameCubes that do have a Digital AV out
Sam Campbell oh got it... That sucks, there is no way to play the regular analog gamecube, only if you have a CRT TV, with a S-Video cable
There was a mediocre solution for analog-only GameCubes from BadAssConsoles, but like the N64 HDMI mod, production seems to have died.
Hi Sam, i tried the mod awesome video of the soldering! Not really satisfied yet, i think the picture could be better than it is now. Stil bit blurry around edges is this normal? I did see an mod without getting rid of the digital port by soldering the cables onto the pins of the port. Would you advise against this?
And last question what wire did you put into the controller pin, i think i burned the board there. Any advise?
Again awesome videos really helped a newby at solderding.
Soldering onto the pins of the port may seem easier, but then you'll need a way to route all of the wires onto the topside of the PCB (If I understand what your saying).
Here's an alternative controller point if you need it: i.imgur.com/My2iZAK.png
As for any jagged lines you see, that is just simply the sheer limit of the textures in the GameCube! There was only so much it could render.
Good luck on the mod!
Thank you for your answer, did not know about the alternative port!:) Do you think this could help for people who like me cannot get it right with the controller port: www.conrad.nl/nl/schnepp-fk-2000-lamellenstekker-stekker-recht-stift-o-2-mm-blauw-1-stuks-731305.html
I read about banana plugs, would make life a lot easier:)
It might, but it may need to be even smaller, like 1mm. Good idea though!
The Alt Controller point worked, thank you! Just added some solder on the point and streched it out upwards. Then put some solder on the wire and soldered it together. Added some hot glue around and Voila! Ill advise anyone who has difficulty with the regular controller port to use it this way. JUST BE SURE YOU DON'T HIT THE BOARD WITH THE IRON.
Glad to hear it worked
Three things to say/ask 1. is there input lag with this? 2. Can i also use composite without unpluggin hdmi constantly so i can competitively play melee on a crt
2 things not 3 sorry
It seems to project both outputs at the same time. I had both HDMI and Composite plugged in, and switching between inputs on the TV showed they were both operating. In terms of lag, I couldn't answer your question, sorry.
+Sam Campbell ok thank you
Sam Campbell
When everything is together does the HDMI port output audio, or do you still have to use the original RCA cable for sound?
Nope it outputs audio, just turn on Enhanced DVI mode.
darn, i thought so, I have the board installed, and its not putting out sound even with enhanced mode on....
I give up..... It seems as though the sound problem may be from the HDMI connection as it seems to work if the hdmi is torqued to the left really hard..... I guess I'll settle for just using the RCA cable for Audio..... :(
Ach! That's a real shame, all I can suggest is checking all the connections, perhaps jolting it to the left is bridging a cold solder joint
Got it working! Opened it up one more time and resoldered some of the joints that looked a little under done..... Thanks for the tutorial and replies! This was my first MOD work of all time and actually my first time really soldering too!!!
Im debating on trying this.. I have some soldering experience but not much. How difficult would you say this is? Probably tedious Im sure but I can be patient and work through it
It's very tedious. However I would say it is not too difficult. Just take your time, if things aren't working right take a break from it. It doesn't have to be done in one sitting.
Sam Campbell what worries me is that little tiny spot with traces all around it.. but what the hell, I think I'll give it shot. Thank you!
Jacob Scarberry
Good luck! Let me know if you have any issues
@@SamCampbellWell I’m 7 years late to respond to this but, that initial attempt was a disaster lol. You really should not try this unless youve got some decent experience. Its really easy to burn off that pad for the controller input. But, Im so glad that I tried it because it really got me into this hobby and I now do all kinds things like this. I’ve modded a lot of my consoles now and a lot for my friends as well. Thank you for posting this video dude! Cheers ✌🏼
I’m confused, what’s the benefit to doing this instead of getting a getting a RCA to HDMI adapter?
The simplest difference is in the signal chain. With the GameCube HDMI mod the signal chain is as follows: GameCube internal digital signal to HDMI digital signal to television.
With an RCA adapter the signal chain is: GameCube internal digital signal to analog composite (RCA) signal to digital HDMI signal to television.
There is a significant loss of information when moving from the GameCube internal digital signal the analog composite (RCA) signal which makes for poor picture quality. By using an adapter at this stage in the signal chain you are converting a signal with lost information back into a different digital format.
@@SamCampbell Thank you for the informative answer.
Are be able to do a hdmi por on original xbox? Its a dream!
How much would you charge if i was to send you a cube with a digital port to mod it for me? The mod and how much for labor?
As much as I'd like to do it, I simply don't have the time or method of transaction setup to do mods for people. Sorry!
Can you use 26 AWG wire for the mod?
Most likely. I usually use a ribbon cable for most installs I do
Would this work on a DOL-101?
No. That's as simple as I can put it
Will this work with any GameCube, or just ones with the digital out port?
Only ones with a digital out, DOL-001
Sam Campbell dang I have a dol-101.
@@paulnolack297 DOL 001 are like $25 on eBay.
So do you have a mod service for this really want this done to my GameCube
Right now I am not, sorry. But I do know that you can use this site: www.videogameperfection.com/product-cat/console-modsrepairs/nintendo-gamecube-modsrepairs/
Alright so I actually just bought this and installed it last night. Fired it up and yay! HDMI worked right off... but wait, no audio... I ended up searching through what little info I could find and supposedly I have to enable the DVI audio through the OSD. Yay! again... nope... I made absolutely sure that my controller connection to the via on the bottom of the board was getting continuity to the HDMI kit but to no avail can I get into the on screen display to alter my settings... The input combo to bring it up is supposed to be L+R+X+Y, tried that over and over and over again, nothing. Any help would be great, having to also hook up cables to the multi-out and running those to external speakers for audio isn't ideal at all.
There are many points around the area where the controller soldering spot is supposed to be. raw.githubusercontent.com/ikorb/gcvideo/master/HDL/gcvideo_dvi/doc/gc-controller.jpg
Make sure that it is connected correctly. Way to think of it is one column to the right of C226, and one point down.
Than make sure you soldered that wire to pin 94.
The sound should work once your able to get to the menus and enable Enhanced DVI Mode.
I will check again now that I've had some sleep but I'm certain I've checked the location at least 10x. Going to be pissed if it's something to do with my actual controller board not recognizing one of the button inputs.
Well this is certainly aggravating. Staring at the board pictures and at my own board C226 is printed on the board differently. The cap is in the same spot but the writing is marked off to the side differently, I wonder if I don't have the slightest board revision making this not the correct via to connect to.
Could you send a picture in of the board? I'm curious what it looks like
Hey Jake. I'm having the EXACT same issue. I'm pretty confident there isn't a short or anything. After trying to troubleshoot, my port 1 doesn't work at all. I ordered a replacement front board to see if something's going on with the ribbon cable that can explain the controller problem. The controller used to work, just not the input combo for the OSD, now it doesn't work at all while controllers 2, 3, and 4 work fine.
Does this work well with the Gameboy player?
Yes
I wonder if an adapter would work for 1080 or 720p, I mean one that can be place outside just like the one they made for ps2 and the wii.Does this mod allows to play backups? We don't see when you solder the chip, we just see the wire at the end being solder, is that the only one needed to be solder? Is it that simple.
I've discussed the idea of an adapter with someone else, and it would be a great idea, only power would need to be soldered. The only hold back for an adapter is someone to manufacture the enclosure. This is not a mod chip, it simply upscale the GameCube image. It isn't that simple, the diagram is in the description for all of the soldering points: docs.google.com/document/d/1FOQi2EyKnDFoHLZ-CW4AgzqSwIgCRNXVBuhimMKxcMc/edit#heading=h.k9gib7gumrna
+Sam Campbell I really like to see how you solder the HD card, because I want to upgrade my GameCube and I don't see how you solder it, I just see when you solder onr cable, but there are other cables.
if they could make an adapter like the one for the wii with HD output and an intrrnal chip would be nice, is also cheaper.
Sam Campbell would an adapter do the same as the mod chip?
What about a soft mod in the memory card, can that help improve quality?
I would definitely want a memory card modded with the GameBoyPlayer disc information inside, so we wouldn't need the disc in order to play Gameboy games in the GBP.
Also they can mod the memory card to allow imports and backups.
Maybe even translation.
*****
You'd need something like the WASP Fusion to get SD card support, etc. Then once you added the inclusion of up-scaling, etc, you would be remaking the GameCube looking something like this:
s25.postimg.io/ej42qs7ov/Megadrive_v3_And_Wasp_Fusion_1.jpg
Sam Campbell NICE! I am sure they can make the hdmi adapter in a better shape to easily come to the back.
Also would be better with SD card support, we could play the GameBoy SD games through it, many good games on SD.
Maybe they can do a mod cover with that integrated and have the sd on front, also the mod cover can have the DVD cover to input and play DVD's would also be another enhancement for rhe GameCube.
If they could mod the two memory card ports into a single USB would be awesome.
But they would need to integrate 3memory cards inside for the storage of games, I mean if you add 3 memory cards with much memory capacity inside the GC, there would be enough safe space thst wouldn't require any memory card at all, so they could mod it to a USB maybe.
Can I get the Pluto EP1K10 model? Please tell me there no difference. I need to buy a really cheap one my budget pretty low.
Unfortunately only the Pluto-IIx XC3S200 series will work
Sam Campbell Damn.. Alright thanks! Then what even is the Pluto EP1K10 model?
They're all just FPGAs (meaning field-programmable gate-arrays), so the rough comparison would be to a programmable micro-controller like PIC. Someone has simply written a program that interprets the GameCube digital data and translates it to the HDMI interface
Hello. I just installed this mod, but I can't get the GC to output to 480p. Games that require 'B' to be pressed do not respond to the command. Games that allow you to choose progressive in the menus have it greyed out. Any thoughts?
Interesting, I'm not sure what to suggest, sorry. Does your output say 480i, perhaps it's already in 480p (although that seems unlikely)?
Of course you can always ask questions on: www.gc-forever.com/forums/index.php
Actually, one other thing I can suggest is to double check pin 20 on the FPGA to pin 1 on the GC.
Also in the menu, I believe there is a enable 480p mode option, if I recall correctly. Hope that helps
Thanks Sam. A few others said to check the same things. Will let you know for future reference. Thanks !
seems I lifted a trace when taking off the digital port, so I had to jump it with a bit of wire. working great now. so mad at myself for doing that😒
Krebstar
Ah, done it myself numerous times. De-solder braid can be a bit of a pain to use.
hi Sam. I did the mod. I have an issue... I don't have any sound through hdmi. I check mute setting is off. any idea ?
By "checked that the mute setting is off" do you mean you checked that "Enhanced DVI" is on?
Many thanks ! Next time I'll watch your videos till the end :p
Point Net
Good to hear it works!
Why didn't you press B during startup to select progressive scan mode?
Honestly forgot in the anticipation of the moment. I'll update the guide document to remind people.
Does it make a difference in picture quality to select progressive scan mode, when this mod is installed? Or does the mod do excellent de-interlacing on its own?
It does make the picture quality a bit clearer, you'll also notice that there isn't any flickering on objects like text
is the background music Lemmino?
It's in the description, and it doesn't look like it's one of the tracks on the full song
Was the HDMI port already attached to the bord from knjn? Or do you have to order the HDMI port seperately with the pluto bord from them?
Item#6117 (Pluto-IIx XC3S200 HDMI), pre-programmed with GCVideo from KNJN will have the HDMI port already attached
Sam Campbell thank you for the response! Also i was wondering does this mod work with a 4K TV? Does it pick up the signal no problem that you know of?
I believe it would work no problem. Feel free to ask any other questions!
Sam Campbell Thanks for the response really apprreciate it!
Sam Campbell i installed the puto board and did the mod. However i am getting no signal on my TV. I checked if i installed a 100 ohm resistor and i did but no signal. The pluto board is also pulsating with a red LED, then stops and then pulsates again and continues like this. Any idea what is the problem?
Wouldn't this be easier to just install the hdmi port directly on the spot where the original port sat without the pcb acting as a medium to make it work?
The original Digital Out port is removed and replaced by the HDMI port. The FPGA board acts to translate the signals. If you meant why doesn't it fit as nicely, it's because it uses an off the shelf PCB unlike many of the other mods which are overpriced and limited in stock because they are custom designed and single handedly made by one guy in say, Texas.
@@SamCampbell not that you used a cheap pcb but rather using a pcb having to translate at all that got me wondering why not place the hdmi port directly on the gamecube's motherboard?
i like how you started the video
Thanks! I didn't know whether it would be seen as annoying or interesting
Since the Digital port is just a plug soldered to the board, is there a reason that an external unit could not be made? A cable with a Digital Port plug and a 5v power supply and you'd be in business.
While we're on the subject, why are there no aftermarket GC component cables in existence? Surely if the official cables go for $200+ someone could copy the pinout and manufacture them in China. Sell for $50, still turn a huge profit.
The problem is that making such a cable would be extremely difficult to make. The Gamecube Component Cables have inside of them a special chip called a DAC or Digital to Analog Converter Chip, this chip is a very Unique one Nintendo made that also has a lock-out function meaning that it has a secutity protection code that prevents 3rd Party Companies from making a Component Cable. When the Gamecube turns on it looks for anything in the Digital AV Port, if it detects any cable it checks the security code inside the Cable. If the code doesn't match or if there is no code, the Gamecube will not enable the Digital AV Port therefore giving no picture. The code is a special secret code that, only Nintendo knows and can control on an unmodified console. I'm not sure how this HDMI mod works, but it should bypass the whole security video lock code and just get into the internal Digital Signals of the Gamecube.
Helloz World component isn't digital, it is analogue. I have a madcatz cable that works for PS2 GameCube and Xbox and outputs svideo rca and component. All analogue.
Andrew Deley Component as we know it, YPbPr, is analog. However the signal in the Gamecube is digital. The chip in the GC component cable converts the digital signal from the Gamecube into an analog signal.
does it only works for gamecubes with the composite output?
Yes only GameCube with a Digital output are compatible with this
*****
It should
sorry i meant with only the component output
Hello i'm working on a project for a wireless hdmi solution and i have a pluto IIx hdmi + 2 hdmi adapter
my question is that i want to recover the hdmi signals on the pluto IIx hdmi from an hdmi solution like the Tv so that i can manipulate the datas and i don't know how to start.
Please any help would be appreciate. Thanx you and great video !!!
Are you talking about a product like this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092T3E3A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=zeos-20&linkId=2df2340de7f04c6c8e7d760e4f464d19
yess but all i want to do is just recover an hdmi signals with the plutot IIx and do some post treatment the wireless transmission part is not my bussiness
I see several boards in the link. witch did you use?
Item#6117 (Pluto-IIx XC3S200 HDMI) (pre-programmed with GCVideo for Gamecube), not to be insulting but it is posted under the link to buy
Thanks for the response .Sorry I completely missed that the item number was listed.
what about the input lag ???
That depends on your TV, the mod shouldn't add any lag since its not doing any internal upscaling or has any kind of framebuffer.
Does this also apply to PAL Games?
Yes
If i buy this i need to solder this no programming of chip or whatsoever?
Yes, the preprogrammed model is listed in the description
Thank you by the way how much is the ibternatiinal shipping
Btw do you have an instruction bby documentation like pdf or ms word
Also does this mod work for PAL Gamecubes, like the AUS or EUR versions?
Yes it should
Sam Campbell , Exactly what would I need to purchase from this website for this HDMI mod? Just the item #6117?... For the pre-programmed chip.....
Or would I need other pieces? And if so which ones precisely?
Kyle Davis
Yes, you only need the pre-programmed one for the GameCube, and then some wire, and a 100Ohm resistor
Sam Campbell Thanks again. 😄
No problem
My device does not have a digital output , it is possible to do this mod anyway !?
Unfortunately, it requires the digital port. Sorry!
+Sam Campbell please can you tell me the chip name that you used to make the mod !? where can I find!?
It's project name is GCVideoDVI, and there is a purchase link in the description.
www.knjn.com/ShopBoards_RS232_Parallel.html
Make sure it's the one that is "Preprogrammed for GCVideo DVI"
thank you friend! you helped me a lot!
you are a godsend for this tutorial. thankyou
Glad to help! Let me know if you have any questions
Word. The pin numbering on the board with the numbers "1", "2" on the left side and "21", "22" on the right side. What would the pattern be for the numbers 3, 4 and 20, 19? For example, would I assume 3 would be to the right of 1 or 2?
It's a zig zag like pattern so 1, 2 above 1.
One column to the left, 3, 4 above 3. Next column 5, 6 above 5. etc.
I'll update the diagram for clarification to others
Hey, I was able to install it. but I have no audio or sound even with Enhanced DVI mode on. What could be the prob?
I only have two suggestions for this problem, the first one is to double check all the solder joints, make sure none of them are cold, etc. And secondly, there should be a 100Ohm resistor between DDC +5v and VUNREG, check the resistance to make sure that it is in fact a 100Ohm resistor, and if it is then try a direct connection instead
Nice intro bro
Thanks
