  • A quick flight in the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Airbus A320 to show the bugs in the autopilot. It has serious issues in the launch version of the game - either turning too early, or too late for waypoints, managing airspeed with the autothrottle, and managing altitude (VNAV). As long as you know at the moment you can revert to "Selected" airspeed. It will be nice when the bugs are resolved.

Note - the overspeed SHOULD have cut the autopilot. The autothrottle didn't stop accelerating. Bugs galore :)

Since learning from you, I have just made a successful flight from Gatwick To Schiphol with ni problems, thank you so much for your help.

Another great video, thank you. Made things a lot clearer than some other videos out there.

Glad to help. There are some great videos appearing from real commercial pilots now too - really, really helpful.

the top half of each knob in the Airbus is "pushing" the knob. The bottom half is "pulling" the knob. Pushing is managed mode. Pulling is selected mode. Think of it as "letting the aircraft decide" (pushing towards the plane), or "letting the pilot decide" (pulling towards the pilot).

    Thanks for your nice Video!
I am not 100 % sure about the bugs of the Sim and if the functions I'll mention are even available (or have been at the time of your posting).
I think the problem with the unsteady altitude and the Autopilot could arise since there was no vertical mode engaged.
You have to select the altitude (FD should be engaged as well) and then either select V/S or Open Climb for the Autopilot to know 'how to get' to your selected altitude.
    Maybe that helps.
    Cheers!

The stock aircraft and FBW A320 have been famously buggy since they first appeared. The FBW is much better now, but the stock aircraft are still horrendous. Notice I was showing *managed* mode - not selected mode. In managed mode you do not need to configure vertical speed - the aircraft should follow the flight plan configuration, and reflect aircraft configuration in it's decisions.

Do you know how to manage the flight plan on what is act mode ? *managed 🤔 for example mcdu says on the crz page act mode managed , ci 100 , and then managed *285 ????? How do I changed this to my settings

You can change the numbers in the performance section of the MCDU. Also, while programming your flight, you can change climb, cruise, and descent parameters - but SIDs and STARs will have fixed contraints for speeds and altitudes (typically).

hi, could i please have some help? my managed altitude never goes above 5000 ft and ignores the altitudes of the waypoints. how do i make it adhere to those?

    • @jonbeckett

It depends which aircraft, and which simulator. If you're using Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and the Airbus, good luck with that - it's riddled with bugs in the autopilot. You should find that most of the autopilot controls can be pushed (left click), and pulled (right click). Pushing engages managed mode - pulling engaged selected mode. Managed mode is hilariously broken - so VNAV etc is broken. Selected mode SOMETIMES works (where you get to choose speed, alititude, vertical speed, heading).

@@jonbeckett i’m using the fs2020 a320. so yeah, i guess it is just broken. its a shame considering there aren’t really any 3rd party airliners that are higher quality
