I’m sick and tired of hearing this argument that the new shadows are overpowered and break the game. News flash, the new shadow characters aren't broken, you're just trash. There are 37 playable characters in this game. I can go 43 hours without a single sighting of a good shadow character. You wanna know what's actually broken? Adachi j.C, unscaled damage, Margaret, Extreme Orgia Mode, Minazuki 5A. Actually, speaking of mashing 4A, that's all shadows can do! They literally mash 5A all day and sometimes do a cheap ass combo. And I always hear this argument: "Oh! sHaDoW cHaRaCtErS aRe BrOkEn CaUsE tHeY hAvE a BuRsT!" Are you telling me these cryptid motherfuckers win because they sacrifice their win condition for what? A fucking BURST? How are you gonna kill anything? This isn't a montage video, welcome to the real game. What are you gonna do when you start fighting someone who's actually good at the game? You gotta be backshotting my ENTIRE ASSHOLE if you think that playing Shadow Naoto is make you beat Guyman, and it'll only take a single set with BannaKen for you to start questioning your SANITY. I'm pretty sure Burgers mashing 5A is gonna beat a thousand of you. OH WOW, CONGRATULATIONS, you scrubbed out a round. Now you don't have a burst. How you gonna survive when Chie does a 10K DP punish? Margaret can mix you up after doing a fullscreen 4K combo meterless! How are these shadows gonna survive a Minazuki 2C fatal starter? Here's your answer Einstein, they don't. Ever heard of Titanomachia dumbass? What is a shadow gonna do against an unscaled Trismegistus finger? Get out of your TV and enter reality. I'd bet every dollar that Persona has ever made you'd all get freed up by Chris's Dumbass Narukami. Get this through your smooth brain head, these aren't good characters. They are a bunch of gimmicky ass nonsense going against some of the strongest fighting game moves ever created. Fuck me, remove most of the regular characters from this argument, I'd like to see a shadow survive a fucking Biteloop. What are you gonna do when Minazuki cloaks the world in darkness? Frenzy? Burst? Fucking Hamon the darkness? Your argument sucks. Shadows suck. You suck. I win. Suck my dick.

Now now, to be fair to the Shadow Junpei, he can get Victory Cry off of one frenzy combo. Speaking from personal experience of course. Obviously he isn't top tier and anyone who thinks that should sit down and play a character that isn't Minazuki.
I like how in the list of "strongest fighting game moves ever created", there's just, Kanji walking forward. Not even doing anything.

When I first encountered them I _thought_ they would be broken. Then I realized they have the defense of a wet paper bag and little to no real originality in their kits.

Shadow player’s explaining how sacrificing your burst (one of the most important defensive tools you have) and all your meter for an extremely situational combo that they will probably drop is actually broken.

@@onehitwonders7729 very fast start up, covers a wide area, deals a good chunk of damage and if it lands as a counterhit the adachi gets a free oki off of a super mashable move. It's not impossible to beat, just an incredibly powerful move even for this game

I'm pretty sure shadows have more heart than the originals. Big thing is that they get different auto combos sometime, access to all non ik moves at the start of the match, don't get the low health advantages and +50 meter. They do get the shadow burst which lets them spam out 25 meter supers and can cancel a lot of stuff into combos
I thought like shadow chie, narukami, mitsuru and yosuke were good because those characters are already amazing?

Honestly, the funniest part is that Shadow characters entire gimmick is just based around spending all their resources to get a really high damage combo, but guess what? The regular characters can all do that too and since they have normal damage, most of the cast gets similar damage anyways, and some even get MORE damage like Narukami since Shadow Narukami doesn't even have Thunder God Dance. The only other supposedly big improvement that Shadows have over the regulars is that they have their awakening supers from the start, but the majority of the characters that'd massively benefit from that don't even have Shadow forms (which is good, because a Shadow Adachi would be an absolute war crime of a character).

I think one of the more slept on things about shadow characters is that they have access to all their supers from the get go, which do make some shadow characters outright better (lookin at you, Naoto.)
What's a shadow character going to do against a 10K Elizabeth combo from non awakening.
also not to mention they sacrifice 20% damage from their regular characters. They spam shadow berserk supers and cry when they get punished for whiffing a ziodyne. They trade consistency for a gimmick that will at most win one wrong after losing the first and then not have anything left for the final round as they have no kill power with their -20% power
honestly, that's why no one who's actually good plays shadow characters

Isn't this like the whole reason S.Naoto is one of the best Shadow characters, she can use B Raid right off the rip and drop your Fate counter to 0 instantly off of one combo and it lets her practically ignore the downside of slightly less damage

When i get enough money to purchase this game, the only shadow character I'll play is the shadow labrys with asterius
I abstain from playing shadow yosuke over regular yosuke because I respect my boy yosuke enough to not play his ICKY CRINGE DUMB SHADOW (I can’t be bothered to learn shadow combos)
mfw i didn't even know shadows were different in any way from their normal counterparts and i played the whole ass game not knowing this
Case and point you can go hours and hours and not meet anyone good with these characters
Maybe an incomplete/flawed comparison, but Shadows seem to suffer from the similar problem of 1.1 Elizabeth in focusing on one gimmick(Mahama), but otherwise not offering more than the cast already has(down to using all their resources for one win and lacking if there's a next round).

I tried out Mitsuru and scrubbed out multiple games with 5A. Honestly, with someone who knows what they’re actually doing, I don’t see how you can beat someone mashing 5A into Mitsuru’s shenanigans

I know that this is mostly just a meme but I actually think there's an interesting conversation to be had surrounding Shadow characters. I think a lot of how good they are depends on character win condition and how easy it is for shadows to earn that win condition. Some are able to earn it a lot easier and some are pretty much left the same, just with significantly worse defense.
As mostly a default Naoto player, going to Shadow Naoto on occasion feels really unusual because of how much you're incentivized to really lean into her insta-kill skills. With full meter, comboing the gun into Shadow Frenzy and being able to completely evaporate a person's fate counter in one go is a pretty interesting departure from normal without being directly better, since that lack of defense makes playing Naoto's traditional zoning and trapping game (the actual reason I like the character) a lot riskier and a lot harder.
Folks who said, “Shadow characters are busted” probably never fought a Boss Mode Margaret before.
Big ups to Shadow Naoto, she kinda tough. But she couldn't beat me!

Shadows are alright. You're either Shadow Kanji or Shadow Yukari. But most of the Shadow characters I run into are actually good at the game.

It's really hard to tell when a gimmick thing is broken because if they get their gimmick they feel so good and if they don't yeah.
My answer is always calculating how easy that gimmick is then acting like they are only a bit better than them without the gimmick and slowly moving them up.

SYukari and SMits are defo stronger than their base counterparts, esp Yukari with her having constant uptime on Magarula. She hits you with one j.B while zoning, comboes you, sets up a blockstring/mixup and whether she opens you up or not she's built enough meter to set up some of the freest high/low in the game off of her zoning. That's really good.
And Smits is just a 2 touch character with an insane neutral. Sure, she can 2 touch you with 150 meter in Awakening but being real that's just not nearly as consistent or reliable as just popping Shadow Frenzy. There's definitely nuance here. Some Shadows are really good while others are a waste of time over the regular character (like the ever-popular Shadow Naoto or Shadow Chie whose only specialties over their normal counterparts are somewhat more reliably melting health bars ONCE, something they both can already do with minimal problems in base without throwing their burst away)

And Shadow Naoto got nerfed a ton, both because she can no longer spam SB Machine Gun super and because of the universal change that made it so Shadows don't carry meter between rounds anymore.

2.0 was unironically a nerf to shadows because they lost the ability to keep meter between rounds, which is how you got robbed of round 2s from round start frenzy combos doing 80% on mitsuru and Narukami

As an adachi main.... Shadows are lame and my 5C is more lame but the type of lame you out and win.
On a more serious note I do wonder if shadow adachi existed would it be better than normal adachi due to having mandala immediately at the start of battle available as well as heat riser halving the 20% damage reduction of a shadow character
he would 100000% be better. Adachi already has shadow-like damage with just fear, and if he was able to get Mandala early in the fight he'd def just destroy people in 2 or 3 hits

Late but oh well, indeed shadows are trash, the only reason they say broken is because of the frenzy and the fact that they can do multiple supers in frenzy if they have the meter... For example shadow Naoto, all you need is full meter, frenzy, do the stupid 236 super twice, run up to opponent and do a low then use one of the two insta kills... That's only one example of why they say broken, now is it broken... No it's just cheap but easy to get around if you know how to
