SYukari and SMits are defo stronger than their base counterparts, esp Yukari with her having constant uptime on Magarula. She hits you with one j.B while zoning, comboes you, sets up a blockstring/mixup and whether she opens you up or not she's built enough meter to set up some of the freest high/low in the game off of her zoning. That's really good. And Smits is just a 2 touch character with an insane neutral. Sure, she can 2 touch you with 150 meter in Awakening but being real that's just not nearly as consistent or reliable as just popping Shadow Frenzy. There's definitely nuance here. Some Shadows are really good while others are a waste of time over the regular character (like the ever-popular Shadow Naoto or Shadow Chie whose only specialties over their normal counterparts are somewhat more reliably melting health bars ONCE, something they both can already do with minimal problems in base without throwing their burst away)

I know that this is mostly just a meme but I actually think there's an interesting conversation to be had surrounding Shadow characters. I think a lot of how good they are depends on character win condition and how easy it is for shadows to earn that win condition. Some are able to earn it a lot easier and some are pretty much left the same, just with significantly worse defense. As mostly a default Naoto player, going to Shadow Naoto on occasion feels really unusual because of how much you're incentivized to really lean into her insta-kill skills. With full meter, comboing the gun into Shadow Frenzy and being able to completely evaporate a person's fate counter in one go is a pretty interesting departure from normal without being directly better, since that lack of defense makes playing Naoto's traditional zoning and trapping game (the actual reason I like the character) a lot riskier and a lot harder.

2.0 was unironically a nerf to shadows because they lost the ability to keep meter between rounds, which is how you got robbed of round 2s from round start frenzy combos doing 80% on mitsuru and Narukami

I think one of the more slept on things about shadow characters is that they have access to all their supers from the get go, which do make some shadow characters outright better (lookin at you, Naoto.)
