I have a theory. Near the end of the trailer when the young gladiator was fighting the older guy, the mom looked concerned, my thoughts is that he could be fighting his own father.

Yeah, I think is also something which I'm conflicted over as well. Gladiator was a completely self-contained story so making a direct sequel to it that feels natural and connected is going to be a tall order. On the other hand, I'm such a Roman history buff that even just the aesthetics of being in ancient Rome is going to be something I'm gonna love to see.
I think it's a great idea because it's a continuation of the story, they have a chance to show the naval battles in the coliseum, and they waited 24 years. It would've been worse if the sequel came out like 2 years after the first

As for the trailer it seemed fine but agree with Eric that music wasn't it for the trailer. That boats on the water scene seems like it could be cool, will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Please look at the chorus of Church in the Wild and then take a moment to think about how important the concept of winning over the mob because the mob is Rome was in the first Gladiator. The song choice is putting emphasis on that exact same theme again for this trailer.

Looks good. It might not match the first (that came out at the right time/right cast/right mood) but even if its gets close I will be happy. Music-wise, he has gone with Harry Gregson-Williams, who has done a lot of films and also does a good job. Scott used him in The Martian, The Last Duel, and Kingdom of Heaven.
I'm unsure how to feel about this. I mean it looks great, but it also kinda feels weird to call it Gladitor 2 as there is not much connecting the two asidfe from it still being in Rome. One thing that's kind of dumb, is they didn't bring back the actor of Lucius, the boy from the first movie. This is an adult Lucius, but he's played by Paul Mescal in this movie.
The cast is great and all and it looks massive, but im rlly weary about the screenwriter, David Scarpa. He sucks, a lot, he wrote Napoleon, All The Money in the World, and the Day the Earth Stood Still remake. I think anyone with even a semblance of historical knowledge hates Napoleon, and thats largely thanks to Scarpa, who knows jackshit about history, let alone decent characters or dialogue, he just has no talent for screenwriting and sure the first movie isn’t renowned for its writing but its pretty damn engaging still.

It will be interesting to see how Denzel's character came to power. A slave who got free and worked his way to the top.

Rap music isn't just for movies that involves the hood or the ghetto as you can clearly see in the whole world taking and using it in their cultures now. K-pop is just music,clothes and dancing that's taken from rhythm and blues from the 80's and 90's era of r and b. Country music isn't just played in movies about the south and heavy metal,rock and other forms of music doesn't have a specific category of films they're played in neither should hip hop.

The music choice was to connect the movie to a younger audience. The original came out over 20 years ago. They need to market this film to a wider range of audience. I liked the way they chopped up the song to fit the trailer

Part of this look cool, but based on a summary it seems the battle scenes are from a Roman invasion of Numidia...which has already been part of the Roman Empire for almost two hundred years at this point. Might be too much historical rage for me :p
i agree with Eric... using rap in historical pieces is so tired and it just never works at all.. there's been so many trailers the last ten years for historical films or shows that have done it and it's never good
Also in the new Peacock Ancient Rome series the trailer for that also uses rap music.
I agree with Eric I really did not care for them adding a rap song to this trailer a score would have worked better.
I'll probably watch because Denzel & Pedro are in it. Judging by the trailer, the plot of the movies seems chaotic. Also, they clearly switched the actor for the character of Lucius. Too bad they couldn't bring back the original actor to play that character as an adult 😕
Going from Hans Zimmer to the music we have in this trailer , i get its to create hype but come on ... they could have used a "hype" score that sounded like something adjacent to the time period being portrayed.

I second this!!! incredible show one of my favorites, and it's sadly so underrated. I've also been asking them for months to react to it hopefully someday.

One thing that's kind of dumb, is they didn't bring back the actor of Lucius, the boy from the first movie. This is an adult Lucius, but he's played by Paul Mescal in this movie.

The cast is great and all and it looks massive, but im rlly weary about the screenwriter, David Scarpa. He sucks, a lot, he wrote Napoleon, All The Money in the World, and the Day the Earth Stood Still remake. I think anyone with even a semblance of historical knowledge hates Napoleon, and thats largely thanks to Scarpa, who knows jackshit about history, let alone decent characters or dialogue, he just has no talent for screenwriting and sure the first movie isn’t renowned for its writing but its pretty damn engaging still.
